Thomas Dimitroff, Falcons GM, just said because of the trade the Falcons are obviously going to focus on defense. Mentioned how many analysts said they were going for a TE in the first which now changes the complexion of their draft.

Only reason i'm posting this is to get SLATEmosphere to worry more lol.

Damn, watch out for the Falcons. Wish he was traded to someone in the AFC, but at least he's out of the NFC East.

better than decent chance we lose to the Falcons now with Tony Gonz . if both teams r healthy it will be a good game.

Gonzalez told FOXSports that “With Matt Ryan, Michael Turner, Roddy White and now myself, we have the chance to be in the top five in the league in offense every year,” Gonzalez said. “How could I not be excited to join that team? [Chiefs General Manager] Scott [Pioli] and [coach] Todd [Haley] told me a little bit ago and there were nothing but positives. … I think this is something that will help tem because they are rebuilding. There was no biterness at all from either side.”

I bet they become the NFC favorite now. I have to disagree with dallascowboyfanboy. We play them after a bye so the chances we win that game are drastically in our favor.

They could end up 3rd in their division. No doubt the offense should be tough.

I agree, I don't think they will be able to replicate their last season's success. The media will jump on their bandwagon though.

I am surprised that with all the complaining McNabb had done for offensive weapons, the Eagles weren't willing to beat the horrible offer made by the Falcons. What a steal this was. I have to question what the chiefs are thinking doing this kind of trade when they dont have established offensive weapons and a QB who would have found Gonzalez useful. Odds to beat Kansas City increased

Good get by Atlanta, now they can focus their draft on improving D.

Falcons braintrust is doing it right.

That's smart. The Falcons aren't wasting any time putting people around Matt Ryan. They know what they have. A target like Gonzalez will only help take Ryan to the next level.

This is fun too. Between Ryan, Cutler, Romo, Eli and possibly even Quinn if he lands in the right place, we're starting to see a new generation of NFC QBs. Not going to be long until we're ontop of the AFC once again.

People get too caught up with Matt Ryan. People were quick to judge Vince Young and crowning him the next best thing his rookie..then he just hit a brick wall. I strongly believe in the sophmore slump. Teams will focus more on their negative now that they have NFL tape of him.

Difference is that Young never improved as regards throwing the ball. Ryan was doing fine at that. Comparing Ryan to young is stupid. Their cases and everything else is completely different.

Actually, I thought they need LB help even more after Boley and Brooking, etc. got cut/left.

I don't know Slate. They seem like two completely different animals to me.

Vince was the off-the-charts athlete and leader who could carry a team to some degree, but seriously lacked QB mechanics.

Ryan also is a great leader but he is very polished as a QB his age--both mentally and physically. I do agree that he could have a slight sophomore slump, but that is the case for anyone.

Matt Ryan definately seems like he will be a great NFL QB. But, lets not anoint him a future HOF QB yet.... There have been other QB's that have come out on fire and then fizzled and turned out only solid....

Actually, Atlanta was able to let those 2 players go b/c they had young guys pushing them. Lofton is their new MLB, has much better range than Brookings does now. And there are no first round 4-3 OLBs in the draft, other than Curry who is a top 5 pick. Plus they signed Mike Peterson, who can play all 3 positions.

Falcons may address LB early, but not with their first pick. They have bigger needs on the interior of their DL and at safety (Milloy is still a FA far as a I know).

Good move for the Falcons. Ryan, Turner, White, and Gonzalez are going to be a good combination.

Great nucleus...plus Mike Jenkins is finally looking good and Jerious Norwood is very explosive.
