I've seen one too many stupid comments about Tony Romo and his playing golf. It has pushed me over the edge. I hope you will forgive me for the rant I am about to go on. If not, oh well, report me. I would actually rather get in trouble than stay silent on this subject and bite my tongue as much as I have been. I am sick of the taste of my own blood. Time for some venom.

Where's that soapbox?

Some people are just too stupid to believe. I really cannot fathom the true depths some people will go to sound stupid. I will not name any names, but if you believe that Romo playing golf means he is not focused on being the best QB he can be then you fit the description, and I am talking about you. I do not care if that offends you. If you want to respond to my criticism and raise your hand in this thread so that others know how stupid you are...be my guest. Expose yourselves if you wish. That's on you. I am not inviting you to show others how stupid you really are. I want to make that clear.

Confucius said it is better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubts. You want to pipe up and show that you are a fool? Blame yourself. I won't be shocked if someone is stupid enough to do it. I am past the point of shock.

I personally cannot believe how stupid some people are. Frankly, it boggles my mind. Mostly I credit the Internet age for creating people who don't mind looking and sounding stupid because the rest of us will never meet them anyway. They are nameless and faceless entities behind a keyboard and a monitor who don't care what others think about them. No skin off my nose if someone wants others to think they are stupid. Knock 'em dead stupid people.

Here's a question to frame this topic...

How many NFL players play golf? Wake up and smell the coffee people. A huge freaking majority of them do. On every NFL Team. I guarantee you that easily over 75% of the players in the NFL play golf. Many of them have charity golf tournaments in their home towns or college towns to raise money for the charities they contribute to.

Does that mean that most of the players in the NFL don't care about football? If you believe that, get a window installed in your stomach because your head is so far up there it is the only way you will ever see where you are going. I don't understand how you can stand the smell, but if you like your head there, keep it there.

The vast majority of our Cowboys heroes played golf. Yes, during the season too. They did stuff on their off days. Gasp! Oh the horror of the reality that golf relaxes and focuses some people.

Where was Tom Landry when he found out he was fired? On a golf course in Austin. Tom Landry played golf people. So did Roger, Troy, Emmitt, Bob, Randy, and just about every other player you can name. Athletes who have money get addicted to golf. It is a recreation they can do with some privacy. It allows them to get away from the pressures and enjoy themselves. Think about it. Do you ever see throngs of fans screaming for autographs on a golf course? No, because the country clubs these guys belong to would never allow that kind of crap.

Of course NFL players play golf. Most of them probably suck at it. It isn't an easy game.

Is the problem that Tony Romo is good at golf, and you suck at it? Is it really just jealousy because you can't play the game? I cannot even grasp the synapses that fire and tell someone Romo should give up football and play golf because he doesn't care about football. Maybe I'm being generous in believing these people have synapses in the first place.

He's been seen at Mavericks games too. He should give up watching basketball and focus on football? We already know he should get castrated and focus on football.

It is unbelievable how stupid this crap is.

What do you anti-golf for Romo people want? You would prefer he stay home, play Madden all day long and learn football strategy? Yeah, that's the ticket. He can learn how to throw a screen pass from playing Madden. What would really make us proud is for him to actually be the first football player on the Madden tour. Those guys are so dope. His Madden name can be Moxie.

Oh this plan is great. He can couch potato it, learn the game of football for real, get fat, and really impress some of these mouth breathers. Long live Moxie on the Madden tour.

I can't even fathom how playing golf became a fixation with some people.

I guess it's no stranger than those who don't want him to date and have sex either. What can I tell you people who don't want that, you're not his type. Get over it.

Sorry for the rant. Hopefully some of you were entertained by me losing my freaking mind. To those who are offended...good. I am glad I offended you. Learn the game.

Amen Hos, I enjoyed that.

This has been a topic that gets on my nerves. Along with player agendas and owner hatred agendas.

Trust me people, Tony is doing his best to win a super bowl. Forgive him that he has a life.

can't disagree with you more. these guys get played a fortune to play football thats all they should do. no golf, no recreation, no girlfriends, no distractions! i only want these guys to play, train, eat and sleep. and even then they shouldn't be eating nice food or dreaming in case that distracts them from football, maybe dreaming about football is ok but i'm going to say no just in case

I definitely agree with Hos. I believe the real reason people are saying anything about Tony regarding golf and its distraction from football goes back to the Cabo trip and the preception that he didn't have his head in the game. Also, since then he has made a couple of quotes that didn't go over big(Philly game) as well pertaining to how he looks at the game. As Troy stated, being a Dallas Cowboy quaterback is different and you need to handle yourself in a certain way. Once Tony has success(Playoff wins), I believe this will die down.

First off, I am a first timer in replies but a long time reader. I enjoy the different minds and perceptions this site has offered me. So THANKS for that! I dont disagree with anything Hos ranted about. In fact he articulated my thoughts to a tee (golf pun intended) but not as harsh. I am impressed that Romo can excel in golf. Its a game that is hard to learn, takes time and dedication (atleast to play at the level where Romo can play) and is both physically and mentally demanding. Of course its not compared to a blitzing safety on the blind side and getting crunched without a moment to respond. But its demanding in the sense of timing and precision. Fundamental qualities a quarterback must possess during the scrutiny of on lookers. But is Romo split into too many things??? That has been my question....I dont have an answer.....I know that Romo had to work his rear end at both of them to be where he is and at the levels he gets them done at. Romo is bless to be able to do both at great levels and is ALMOST a two sport athlete. Heck I cant comand a golf ball to go anywhere I want..... let alone a cup thats about 5 inches in diameter thats 400 yards away. Much respect to those who can. With that being said and the reason for my relpy is just to maybe understand the source or at least understand where this perception derives from, for the criticism of Romo having a "life".
His girlfriend, his sex life, his golf, his lime light....all well deserved.....honestly its none of my business....currently i am satisfied with the product the cowboys have put on the field..and only care whats on the field...but everything just mentioned..... I personally think its the return on investing all monies that have gone to Romo. Now, some of the "stupid" people may just want perhaps Romo when it was apparent to the audience that his girlfriend had left him...and he was this accurate gun slinger that used his feet and reaction time to buy himself more time always looking down field in defience of the defence..and thats all he had...... his craft was football......so since he didnt have anything else he had brillance on the field because he wanted to show everyone his worth with his poetic moxie but no one knew his name except those who had seen him as an undrafted free agent and saw him develope under Bill Parcels. I miss that Romo....or atleast the perception of that Tony.....or the idea of him.....the media and others have made him out to be so many things it sickens me.....turnover tony thats a name i dred.......I believe that name is comprised of a combination of things (mental distrations and play calling) but he is the ultimate reason why but most of the time he is hung out to dry........Romo is a football junkie.....he had to be to get recognized to be groomed as an nfl quarterback....and he still is....the perception of his lack of concentration is bogus.....now with all the distractions.....some brought on....again to get paid (or pay the bills, or making that paper boo boo) others negatives from the media....now these percevied distractions in my honest opinion have taken a toll to disrupt the quality of concentration......and i think all the media and everything is just enough to make Romo that much of a lesser quarterback..mentally.... and then the physical follows...i mean a nominal difference though......just enough to keep him from being a great quarterback with hall of fame written all over him....which i do think he's very capable of except something is missing(perhaps an identity to this offense...it should always be run first....then passer maintain the game... not try and force it to someone. But I digress.....Without the lime light Tony was driven and had an annointing that was great to watch til the thud of mental pressure.... with the lime light he's made out to be this celeb you read about in the mags and celeb watch outlets with a lot of time on his hands and no time for football.....My question is this..... would Romo and those stupid perceptions be different if Romo remained a hidden gem and gone under the media radar and just been a solid player that seem just to focus on football....with medidiots off his back and not having to worry about other high profile crap celebs go thru....I ask what if he would have given off the workman perception (just for the sake of perception) with a hard hat that punches in and out for a wage job....eating, sleeping, and crappying football a la peyton perception just to get those nay sayers or dime a dozen critics off his back so he can peacefully concentrate on football???.......I can understand somewhat a dilemma with Romo's quality of quarterback play being somehow related to focus and concentration......but i do believe the reason is distorted in many peoples opinion......I think the extremes that one thing like the golfing and lack of winning a qualifier....or jessica....or anything else in Romo's new multi tasking world affects his game is stupid....now perhaps all of those things plus negative things written, printed, reported, complete gossiped about and other things do affect an athlete even the great ones..... Romo has made me a happy fan again.....now football will never be perfect and you cant expect to win a super bowl every year...... thats not entertaining and vegas would not like it if the same teams always win (useless comment...sorry) Romo will always be a good quarterback.....I just hope he finds...in my opinion what made him what he started off as.....special.....maybe it was Bill?...or the focus on proving himself?.....or the lack of public intrusion into his personal life????......but i do believe that there is something missing in tony....i dont think he has to be a leader.... thats a bogus notion too...those that naturally lead.... will lead........Tony is an awesome player that just needs to be left alone..thats asking too much...i know.....i wished there was someway that he can decline all affliation with the media???sorry stupid statement.........i dont know if you have to be born with it or what....i dont know if Romo has it....to be great....to be remembered as a great one.....i dont know if thats what he wants...or he already got what he wanted....recognition and compensation for his hard work...and the ability to tee it off anytime he pleases...for all i know he could be content....being the guy who he is now and not really care about a super bowl and retire as a good probowler that won some playoff games but never dominated......I hope I am not one of the stupid ones......I am a Romo fan and respect and admire what he has done for the franchise and making Cowboy fans cheer again....but please dont be the guy who's good at everything and great at none.....because you will entertain me....make me love you but then you will brake my heart because you didnt seem to want it as bad as the millions behind you watching.....the ones paying the return and giving you paper boo boo. If you dont want it, I dont want you to have it. - Micheal Irvin.....I just HOPE Romo still wants it amist all the distractions. I hope it was an ok read have more to say but thats enough for right now....sorry for writting as if i was texting on a phone.

Double Double toil and Trouble,
Golf game burns and sports boards bubble.

I would rather Tony not play golf, I would rather he become a professional rainmaker.
To show all the wannabes how to really make it rain at a top strip club.
That would be so much better because the chances of him getting in
trouble would drop dramatically and would give many others a chance to meet him.
If he is going to spend his off time doing something not football related I would rather him help give money to great young bodies instead of wasting it at some old stuffy country club.

/sarcasm off

In all seriousness, just because we don't have a life and spend too much time here talking and obsessing about other people's lives, it does not mean they don't have a life. I mean imagine some persons boss always questioning them to concentrate more on their jobs, marriages or families instead of spending so much time on this message board...the people complaining about Romo playing golf would throw a fit if the same finger was pointed at them and the amount of time they spend here instead of doing their job or other important parts of their lives.

Just something to consider for those high volume posters here who feel the need to complain about Romo actually having a life outside of football.

Golf's a pretty good game. If he's good at it, that's pretty impressive, since being a "two-sport athlete" is usually in two sports that are more similar to each other than golf and football.

I agree and I disagree with Hos and I'll attempt to explain why. My explaination is simply my opinion and NOT a authoritive statement.

I use to play a lot of golf before I ended up in a wheelchair. I was fair at it, maybe even could have done decent on the amature circuit. Golf is basically a game that you play against yourself, constantly trying to beat your personal best.

Playing for leisure recreation like most who are not playing professionally do, it can be a very relaxing game. Playing on or trying to make the PGA takes a lot of serious concentration and dedication to the sport.

Now, having said all that my thoughts go to this. What exactly is Romo doing? Is he trying to make the tour or just trying to qualify for a couple of local events? If it is just a local thing, more power to him. If it is something bigger and he wants on the tour,,,, wait just a minute.

The tour is a full time deal that would directly interfere with his NFL job going well into September. Even qualifying for the two local events would have interfered with the mini camp.....

Romo is a decent golfer, not great but good,,, as amatures go. Which is interfering with which though? Is football holding his golf game back or is it the other way around. His golf game mirrors his quarterbacking,,, and this isn't a knock it is simply an observation but he fades as the game(season) goes on.

Yes, lots of NFL players play golf, Romo is the only one trying to qualify for something bigger... Where would his focus be if he actually made the cut, got on the tour?

Romo has a problem with how he is percieved by many fans and some experts. My opinion is he needs to concentrate on his $67 million dollar job and improve that game, golf is something he can play for many years after football.

And you know Romo is the only one trying to qualify because...he's the only one the media (and the superfans on this website) blows out of proportion about it?

Great Stuff Hos! Okay, Here goes!

The reason that we "smart" people are subjected to a constant barrage by the "stupid" people is because we "smart" people are not limited to reading someone elses opinion and adopting it as our own. We know who they are here at the zone, and I wish you to read what they say.

It is the same regurgitated crap being spewed by some members of the media who only keep theyre jobs by pleasing their bosses with constant drivell directed at the Cowboys. Guys like Ed Turder, Matt Mosely amongst the plethera of buffoons who know that they have to write crap about the Cowboys or their lack of writting or reporting ability will lead to them getting fired! So they write this garbage and it heads out seeking the brain pan of the sheep.

Sheep fan doesnt know what a zone or bail technique is. Sheep fan cant understand the intricasies of offensive line play. Sheep fan couldnt break down film on any player at any position if you gave them Ron Jaworski, Trent Dilfer, and Bill Walsh (I know he is passed but it makes the point) to do so. Those of you with half a brain will understand the reference.

See its simple, those who can formulate a sentence along with their own thought process understand the irrelevance of a man who happens to be the QB for the Cowboys having sex, playing golf or even going out to a basketball game because we have seen the player, we have no preconcieved notions and we realize that when you watch the man progressing through reads, making the throws, never quitting on a play, among other things, we realize that if we were going to play a Sunday football game this guy would be a blessing to have behind center. The sheep will read one of these morons writtings, adopt it as the bible, and have no idea how the game of football is actually played.

That last statement is what bothers me about fine message boards like this one allowing idiots to post and then hide behind the mantra that everyone has opinions. That may well be true, but if you think that Tony Romo has played in any game that he was not prepared to the utmost to play in, then well you need a lesson in FACTS. Facts dont change, its okay that opinions do, but for crying out loud you many sheep, know the facts before you formulate a STUPID opinion.

Here is where many people get off track with the whole Romo and golf deal. The bulk of the local tournaments that Romo plays in are qualifiers for the US Open. For an amatuer golfer that's the brass ring. It doesn't mean he wants to get on tour. I'd also argue golf at the level Romo is at keeps his competative juices flowing in the offseason and does not distract from anything.
