As I said a couple of days ago in response to one of the Q&A articles, the stupidity being spewed out there about Romo playing golf has gotten out of hand. I can't believe there are so many irrational, shortsighted, illogical numbskulls out there. It's not just on this forum either.

Good post, Hos.

everybody has something negative to post on romo. Everybody hates him and the more I watch stuff the more I get frustrated with certain elements of it.

Last night after the mavs got eliminated by the nuggets, tnt does their gone fishing picture with the players from the team that were beaten.

Guess who was on the picture with Dirk and Mark cuban....nope not jason kidd, rick C. not Jason Terry or Eric Dampier or josh howard.

Tony Romo, with a sign that said no Fat chicks and a picture of a blond girl with big thick legs and jessicas head on it.

What does he have to do with the mavericks? nothing, he is just a punchline to everyone and everyone gets to have their 5 minutes to say something negative about him......even losers like chris webber and charles barkley.

LOL! Guys like Webber or Barkley making any comments about people and rather they've won championships or not it hilarious. I don't recall, for certain, but I don't believe that between the two of them that they have a championship of any kind.

I agree and I disagree with Hos and I'll attempt to explain why. My explaination is simply my opinion and NOT a authoritive statement.

I use to play a lot of golf before I ended up in a wheelchair. I was fair at it, maybe even could have done decent on the amature circuit. Golf is basically a game that you play against yourself, constantly trying to beat your personal best.

Playing for leisure recreation like most who are not playing professionally do, it can be a very relaxing game. Playing on or trying to make the PGA takes a lot of serious concentration and dedication to the sport.

Now, having said all that my thoughts go to this. What exactly is Romo doing? Is he trying to make the tour or just trying to qualify for a couple of local events? If it is just a local thing, more power to him. If it is something bigger and he wants on the tour,,,, wait just a minute.

The tour is a full time deal that would directly interfere with his NFL job going well into September. Even qualifying for the two local events would have interfered with the mini camp.....

Romo is a decent golfer, not great but good,,, as amatures go. Which is interfering with which though? Is football holding his golf game back or is it the other way around. His golf game mirrors his quarterbacking,,, and this isn't a knock it is simply an observation but he fades as the game(season) goes on.

Yes, lots of NFL players play golf, Romo is the only one trying to qualify for something bigger... Where would his focus be if he actually made the cut, got on the tour?

Romo has a problem with how he is percieved by many fans and some experts. My opinion is he needs to concentrate on his $67 million dollar job and improve that game, golf is something he can play for many years after football.

This is a good post by someone who obviously has played the game well.

Bottom line is you cannot play at a consistently high level at golf without playing a lot of golf and practicing more. Being able to draw and fade at will, putt and chip, short game and even long game is just too demanding for 99% of people. Jimmy Demaret is the only great golfer I know who didn't practice enough and it cost him dearly IMO. So should Tony put that extra time into football. I say no but I see the argument. He certainly CANNOT play/practive enough to play on the tour and keep his committment to the Cowboys. He isn't doing that though.

OTOH, Romo is not going to play football all his life and I'd bet he's at least thought of playing professionally after football.

I say let him play at golf for now. He's got the game.

The guy who used to play basketball for the Bulls.

He was in a load of commercials and made a movie with Bugs Bunny.

That guy....whatever his name was...

Anyway, didn't he play gold every chance he got?

He was a decent basketball player anyway right? Won a few championships, got some shoes named after him......

Heck Oral Hershiser would take his clubs with him on road trips when he was pitching for the Dodgers.

Bottom line is Romo is a QB every team outside of Pitt, NE, and Indy would love to have as their starter. To nit pick every little thing about him, including his golf game, is to not appreciate how truly lucky the Boys are to have him. I'm expecting continued improvement from him as I'm sure he is from himself.

Tim Duncan goes to Renaissance fairs and plays Dungeons & Dragons, and he's won a few championships and MVPs. I don't know what that has to do with this discussion... but I thought it was a neat bit of info.

It is called having a life. All I ask of our players when they are away from the field is keep out of trouble if they are doing that and putting in the time they need in the off season training then I have no issue with that player.

yeah more like 6 and the greatest player of all time. that's a joke trying to make a point about Michael Jordan of all people to defend Tony Romo.

but to the topic of this thread: cowboys fans are pissed off and frustrated right now with this team. this Franchise has had good to great success in the 70s,80s, and 90s. this current team is more like the one in the mid to late 60s. superbowls in 70s,nfc championship games in the 80s and more superbowls in the 90s. we haven't even won a playoff game in the 2000s and we only have 1 more chance to do something worthwhile in this decade. this team has also underachieved the last 3 years and found terrible and record breaking ways to lose.

Romo dropping the hold

being the 1st #1 seed in the NFC in the current playoff format to lose it's 1st playoff game(*record)

1st team to lose an overtime game on a blocked punt(*record)

1st team to give up 75+ yard runs on back to back plays(*record)

we're not just losing we're losing in the worst possible ways. so anything that doeesn't have to do with winning football games the fans are gonna ***** about it like Romo and jessica, Romo and golf, players at the playboy mansion, our 2006 1st round bust of a linebacker constantly going on espn, etc. I repeat Cowboys fans are pissed off and rightfully so.

I have a stinging suspicion that Jerry Jones likely gives a rats behind what most fans think.

I also think you're misappropriating "Cowboys fans" for "I" in your post.

I also think (well, I know this for sure) that it could most certainly be worse (see: Lions, Detroit 2008-2009)

Yes fans are frustrated but you should not lose common sense along the way. If Romo was blowing off his workouts at the ranch then I could see having a big issue with it but at this time he can only do so much as we get into July and training camp there will be very little time for these other activities

I've seen one too many stupid comments about Tony Romo and his playing golf. It has pushed me over the edge. I hope you will forgive me for the rant I am about to go on. If not, oh well, report me. I would actually rather get in trouble than stay silent on this subject and bite my tongue as much as I have been. I am sick of the taste of my own blood. Time for some venom.

Where's that soapbox?

Some people are just too stupid to believe. I really cannot fathom the true depths some people will go to sound stupid. I will not name any names, but if you believe that Romo playing golf means he is not focused on being the best QB he can be then you fit the description, and I am talking about you. I do not care if that offends you. If you want to respond to my criticism and raise your hand in this thread so that others know how stupid you are...be my guest. Expose yourselves if you wish. That's on you. I am not inviting you to show others how stupid you really are. I want to make that clear.

Confucius said it is better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubts. You want to pipe up and show that you are a fool? Blame yourself. I won't be shocked if someone is stupid enough to do it. I am past the point of shock.

I personally cannot believe how stupid some people are. Frankly, it boggles my mind. Mostly I credit the Internet age for creating people who don't mind looking and sounding stupid because the rest of us will never meet them anyway. They are nameless and faceless entities behind a keyboard and a monitor who don't care what others think about them. No skin off my nose if someone wants others to think they are stupid. Knock 'em dead stupid people.

Here's a question to frame this topic...

How many NFL players play golf? Wake up and smell the coffee people. A huge freaking majority of them do. On every NFL Team. I guarantee you that easily over 75% of the players in the NFL play golf. Many of them have charity golf tournaments in their home towns or college towns to raise money for the charities they contribute to.

Does that mean that most of the players in the NFL don't care about football? If you believe that, get a window installed in your stomach because your head is so far up there it is the only way you will ever see where you are going. I don't understand how you can stand the smell, but if you like your head there, keep it there.

The vast majority of our Cowboys heroes played golf. Yes, during the season too. They did stuff on their off days. Gasp! Oh the horror of the reality that golf relaxes and focuses some people.

Where was Tom Landry when he found out he was fired? On a golf course in Austin. Tom Landry played golf people. So did Roger, Troy, Emmitt, Bob, Randy, and just about every other player you can name. Athletes who have money get addicted to golf. It is a recreation they can do with some privacy. It allows them to get away from the pressures and enjoy themselves. Think about it. Do you ever see throngs of fans screaming for autographs on a golf course? No, because the country clubs these guys belong to would never allow that kind of crap.

Of course NFL players play golf. Most of them probably suck at it. It isn't an easy game.

Is the problem that Tony Romo is good at golf, and you suck at it? Is it really just jealousy because you can't play the game? I cannot even grasp the synapses that fire and tell someone Romo should give up football and play golf because he doesn't care about football. Maybe I'm being generous in believing these people have synapses in the first place.

He's been seen at Mavericks games too. He should give up watching basketball and focus on football? We already know he should get castrated and focus on football.

It is unbelievable how stupid this crap is.

What do you anti-golf for Romo people want? You would prefer he stay home, play Madden all day long and learn football strategy? Yeah, that's the ticket. He can learn how to throw a screen pass from playing Madden. What would really make us proud is for him to actually be the first football player on the Madden tour. Those guys are so dope. His Madden name can be Moxie.

Oh this plan is great. He can couch potato it, learn the game of football for real, get fat, and really impress some of these mouth breathers. Long live Moxie on the Madden tour.

I can't even fathom how playing golf became a fixation with some people.

I guess it's no stranger than those who don't want him to date and have sex either. What can I tell you people who don't want that, you're not his type. Get over it.

Sorry for the rant. Hopefully some of you were entertained by me losing my freaking mind. To those who are offended...good. I am glad I offended you. Learn the game.
you must hate your golf game ;)

It isn't that he plays golf, or has a girlfriend, or likes to sing kareoke,,, badly... He like everybody else is entitled to a life outside of their job....

But..... as has been said by a previous poster, fans are pissed and rightfully so..

You consider everything, No playoff wins since '95, December melt downs(by the team not just Romo) Poor performances against playoff caliber teams, total melt down against Philly with a playoff trip on the line, Romo's cavalier attitude after the game, not just playing golf but trying to qualify and basically become a Pro..... All these things add up to frustration by fans and we have every right to be. Be it his percieved attitude toward the game or not as fans we have the right to question it.

I am not a Romo Hater, but I have had doubts about him ever since he came into the NFL. Not doubts about his physical capabilities to be a QB, but doubts about his head. Not saying he ain't smart, it is obvious he is, just saying his focus does and always has wandered a bit and at times the timing isn't very good.

Romo is Favre, minus the arm,, but none the less Farve. With Farve, you have to take the bad with the good.

90% of everybody that posts on this board are solid Cowboys fans, a large percent are fans of the team as a whole, not just individual players and then there are fans of just players... TO is a prime example of the "Player fans",, people left this board and many others I visit simply because TO was cut. I feel Romo has this same kind of following with some here and at other boards. He can do no wrong and nobody is better....

Nothing wrong with being a fan of a player, as long as some objective thinking remains. Romo has flaws, flaws that if he doesn't correct he will not be the QB of the Dallas Cowboys 3 years from now and any rational thinking Dallas Cowboys fan realizes this.

I hope Romo figures it out, protects the ball, both INTs and fumble wise, because as a fan of the team I'd love to see a trip to the Super Bowl in the near future, no matter who the QB is.

To get that SB then a lot of people need to step up. As for Romo he has to do a better job when the pocket is breaking down to cut down on fumbles but his ints to TD ratio has not been bad.

My thoughts exactly about those who think romo is this "good" NFL qb and who will go to such extremes to defend their ignorant, foolish belief in romo.

Well see just how really good, or really bad he is this coming season.
