It did appear that Romo wasn't in the best of shape at times last year.

Your QB should be the hardest working one in the weight room. Tom Brady wins hardest worker each year in the Pats offseason program.

you know this how ?

Great QBs are gym rats and film rats.

they are ? I never neard that joe Montana was a gym rat or Troy ?

Remember one of BPs QB commandments, something about "Squat, Fat QBs Don't Win Championships".[/quote]

that must be why BP only one two SB's in what in 25 years

I think he is referring to Romo's lack of elusiveness the past two seasons. It seems as if Romo was getting sacked more towards the end of both seasons.

Yeah, could have something to do with protection.

This offseason, offensive coordinator Jason Garrett told his quarterback that he was "bottom heavy" and he needed to be in better shape at the beginning of the season in order to be able to finish the season strong.

Good to hear Garrett telling Romo the truth. Hopefully he can keep Tony away from the Zone because here he would be told how awesome and perfect he is. Romo needs to stop parting so much and take his diet seriously.

Every account I've ever heard from players and coaches re: Tony Romo's work habits are that he's a gym rat who's constantly pushing himself and constantly competing.

I'll weigh that carefully against something JFE took out of context from a conversation after an OTA and what a group of message board reactionaries have to say. Funny you guys weren't on this Tony Romo conditioning kick earlier in the offseason when it was a Tony-Romo-isn't-a-leader kick. Oh, that's right, the article that gave you your opinion was just manufactured today and quoted in this thread.

At least now we've got another item for the Imaginarium. It'll be fun to pretend this topic is even remotely relevant for the next several weeks, at least. Yeah, us!

:hammer:

I never saw a post complaining about Romo being out of shape. This is the first time I've seen any mention of it on these forums. Now it's common knowledge among these guys. "Yeah, I always thought he seemed a little 'bottom heavy.'"

He was here weeks before anything just working out and getting reps in with Roy Williams. Some of the posters here have a real bad memory. All they remember is one photo where Romo and Jessica attended the NBA finals and all of a sudden they are party animals partying 24/7 and going to crazy parties...

Tom Brady has spaghetti arms. :laugh2:

I've can't think of any QB that is "the" allstar of the entire team in the weight room....maybe in the film room--which refers to Brady. That too is part of the offseason program.

Stupid, it is common knowledge amongst any intelligent football fan that Brady is a very hard worker.

I never thought he was bottom heavy, per se, but sometimes when they would show shots of him running, he was a little...jiggly....

Just sayin. Cuz I'm lookin. :p:

Tony Romo came in early for the OTAs just to eat the birthday muffins out of Marion Barber's locker. A Cowboys source told me that. True story.

Yep. Brady may still be skinny and unimpressive looking, but I remember at the combine one scout said he had "the worst body you ever saw". He was a total bag of bones. Brady's worked really hard on that ever since he got in the league.

If I'm not mistaken he may have ran one of the worst 40s for a QB in combine history.

For the doubters he wins the 'hardest worker' parking spot each year at the Patriots facility, whatever that means. For such an unimpressive looking guy he certainly has a big arm and can really stretch the field.

I think a lot of Romo's problems came from TO not being able to beat the press coverage. Because TO whined so much when he wasn't thrown to, it forced Tony to have to keep looking for him instead of going through his reads and making the right throw.

Honestly with the time Romo had off last year, there is a real problem if the staff didn't get on him about getting in better shape. I recall a few years ago that when Quincy Carter had surgery and was out about half the season, he used the time to get stronger.

I didnt get my opinion from this article

he's been out of shape down the stretch the past two seasons

Really? So you were thinking that as he scrambled to his left and threw perfectly to his right, hitting Crayton in stride at a huge moment in the playoffs (in January)? Or when he stepped up and delivered a great, clutch, potential game-winning pass to Crayton (who pulled up on the route). Or did his being out-of shape become apparent when he hit Fasano off his hands and chest in the endzone in that same game? Anyone who knows anything about football and QBing knows that he played well enough to win BOTH playoff games. This "out-of shape" nonsense is just that - nonsense. Unfortunately, football is not 1 on 1 and he can't catch his own passes. Romo has never been our problem. Take a look at the job the O line did at the end of last year, or at the numerous idiots that committed penalties and drops in that playoff game, if you feel like pointing fingers.

Honestly, I was waiting until the "out of shape" idea became an issue. I did think that over the last couple of seasons, Romo just looked pudgy and a bit soft, particularly to end of each season. His turnovers do go up, he drops the ball more, and avoids less pressure.

I felt he needed to hit the weights AND the cardio significantly more to make that next step. He just kind of looked baby-fat smooth in his uniform, and I know he's a QB, but any athlete knows what a difference being in top shape compared to mediocre shape can make. It affects everything.

Happy to see this addressed and happy to see Romo growing in both attitude and work ethic. Also happy to see coaches finally jumping on this, as a coach needs to correct these things.

yeah I don't think it's because he's fat or anything, but that he could maybe use a bit more lower body strength - one poster was right that it appears as if he loses his elusiveness and ability to really slide around in the pocket toward the end of the year.

It's funny how one trash reporter, who has never had one shred of football credibility at any point of her career, says something completely asinine like it's fact... and the flock of sheep buy into it 100% as if it has any legitimacy whatsoever.

"Yeah, I noticed that too!"

I didn't see ONE opinion about Romo being out of shape towards the end of the year until this article was posted. Not in the media, certainly not on this board... nowhere.

But now that the Little Ball Of I-Know-Nothing-About-Football throws this crap against the wall, now not only is it fact... but I knew it all along!

Ridiculous.
