Tony Romo says Jason Garrett didn't send slim down message

Speaking after Wednesday's morning workout Tony Romo refuted a report from earlier this week that offensive coordinator Jason Garrett had a meeting to discuss the quarterback's conditioning.

"There was no such meeting," Romo said. "We live in a world where it's sensationalized. When you see something or hear something, you write it. That's completely false. If there's anything those guys tell me, it's to throttle back sometimes just because I do a lot of running playing soccer and basketball and stuff to stay in shape, plus the stuff we do. So when you hear stuff like that, people don't know."

On Monday Romo talked about the importance of maintaining his conditioning during the course of the season and that he will do more clean and squat work in the weight room to be stronger later in the season.

"I mean, [clean and squat lifting] is not an explosive move to be a quarterback against an opponent," Romo said. "But I feel it's been very beneficial to me over the years to do that. And as you do that going forward, it only helps you continue to take hits during the year. I think that was the whole mindset. The goal was to be able to have strong legs at the end of the year to withstand some of the shots you take as the season progresses."

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said earlier Romo has weighed 222 the last three years. On the roster handed out during mini-camp he is listed at 224 pounds.

I thought this talk about Romo not being in condition sounded fishy. The guy is a total gym rat...so I don't see how he would be out of shape...especially for a QB.

Notice how some people (and media types) jump on somethng like this. It's almost always the same ones looking to shoot Tony down in the first place.

Wait. So JFE's a hack, and nobody who came by earlier to participate in the conditioning drive-by had the stones to come back and man-up in either of the threads on this topic? That's. So. Weird.

Hey, birdwells1, how's my credibility on this topic looking like from down where you're at? Yeah, I'm calling you out directly, bro.

I pretty much read every news article and listen to every press conference and item up on the official site "Multimedia" section.

I don't really remember hearing a consistent theme of Romo being a "gym rat". I do remember hearing that Romo has a good work ethic and not to worry about the golf etc, as he is consistently at the ranch.

I specifically haven't heard about Romo hitting weights and doing lots of jogging or wind sprints. Then again, how many QB's do you hear this about (well ones that are Parcell's boys).

I don't really know or care what the "Little Ball of Hate" has to say about it, because I suspect she doesn't know a baseball from a football in terms of actually playing sports herself (I could be entirely wrong there) nor does she look like she's seen the inside of a gym on a regular basis.

I do know this. I go to the gym regularly. I know what doing 1 hour of weights (putting in a decent effort) 5-6 days a week, combined with some decent cardio work looks like. Romo's body type does not look like a guy that does a lot of weight training and/or a lot of running. That's just my opinion. Hell, I'm a dude that needs to work twice as hard as most to get any results.
I just feel that Romo at times looks a bit "soft bodied" or pudgy out there, but of course he is around guys that are often 225-255 of 5% body fat, so anyone looks relatively less buffed.

So separate those that think a little more attention to fitness and strength and cardio conditioning for our star QB "COULD" pay some dividends and likely isn't going to hurt (unless he gets so big he can't scratch his own *** or raise his hands above his head) from those that might buy into sensationalistic writers like JFE or Galloway etc. I just think the timing is good, and that a little pressure in this direction is a good thing for Romo, whether or not a head to head meeting with Garrett was necessary or even happened or not.

One of Romo's top abilities is his scramble and improvisation. The more strong and fit he is to be able to do this late in a game and late in the season, maybe it makes a tiny difference. Remember the interception late in the Pittsburgh game. Remember the playoff game after the fumbled hold. Might Romo have not thrown the pick or maybe had the speed/strength to get in the endzone if he was stronger and in better shape. Game of inches and mili-seconds, so every little bit counts.

I don't consider Romo to be the same as some of the gunslingers of the past like Marino, Elway, Kelly, or even Bledsoe etc. Those guys were a bit pudgy too. But they were pocket QB's with rocket arms, whereas I see Romo as having more diverse skills and would even like to see him run a bit more at times (and slide of course) than he did last year. To be the more mobile type of QB requires a bit different of a body than the pure pocket guy.

Just my humble (hehe) opinion.

let it go, IDGIT

Why in the world would I do that?

If you're going to participate in a drive-by, you should show the class to take your medicine when you're later embarrassed by it. Go big, or go home. Or is it Go Big and go hide if you're wrong? I get that confused.

I stand by my opinion that his butt is a little jiggly when he runs. :D
