The 2012 Ravens defense averaged 22 points allowed in the playoffs with a 72.4 defensive passer rating and had 9 sacks.

The 2011 Giants defense averaged 14 points allowed in the playoffs with a 83.1 defensive passer rating and had 11 sacks.

The 2010 Packers averaged 19 points allowed in the playoffs with a 67.8 defensive passer rating and had 11 sacks.

He's never had a defense anywhere close to that in terms of being able to handle top-tier NFL quarterbacks, and that includes the 2009 and 2007 teams that were absolutely torched by Favre and Eli.

Really? So 2007 Romo did not have a top defense?

I didn't say he wasn't a problem. I merely indicated there were other very large fish that need frying before pointing the finger at Romo.

No, you didn't say he wasn't a problem you said he's the least of our problems which is true until Dec/Jan come along. He puts the Cowboys in position to win these big games but he continues to fall apart when the games are on the line. He giveth and he taketh away. Despite all the defensive issues in the second half the Cowboys were still in position to win but Romo continues to turn the ball over when big games are on the line. His passer rating is below 40.0 in the final 5 minutes of tight games. His completion percentage is way down and his int's are way up when it's down to crunch time in the final minutes. It's become terrifying for all of Cowboys Nation watching Romo's put the ball up in the final minutes of these games because we all know what's going to happen.

I was reading through the second half game thread on Sunday and a large number of fans were predicting his int's in the final minutes. They've become that predictable. When the Cowboys got the ball back on their final drive several fans said just enough time for Romo to throw another pick and BINGO! It's like every Cowboy fan out there knows it's going to happen. Romo can play solid for 55 minutes then completely fall apart when it comes down to him having to make a play in a critical situation in a Dec/Jan game. Had it not been for the one int that was called back he would have had 3 int's when the game was on the line.

Not in the least bit. The Giants, Bucs, Seahawks, Titans, Steelers, Colts, and Pats all had better D's amongst playoff teams. They had a defense that could beat up on bad quarterbacks (especially when they had a lead) and it got picked apart by every half decent quarterback they played.

or 2009.

LOL @ these homers

Yeah other than the 9.5 Yards Per Attempt, 134.6 Passer Rating, 6 Touchdowns, and 0 INTs they allowed to Favre and Eli those D's were awesome! The Cowboys currently have the worst pass defense in the NFL, and those numbers are markedly worse than the numbers of the current defense. LOL indeed.

The OP's post half convinced me that Romo is a great QB. I am sorry I doubted him even for one second.

If you sell 800 widgets, but you blow the big Peterman account, your boss is most likely still going to be left with a less than fantastic view of your overall body of work.

What is a Peterman account? Is that like consistent late-game interceptions?

I usually stay out of these cause I flip flop on Romo a lot. But you consider 2007 playoff loss a Romo choke? If I remember correctly Crayton dropped a slant that probably would have scored, in the very least been a first down. And the last drive Crayton stopped on a route that he could have walked into the endzone with. Sure Romo threw a pick at the end but it was more of a desperate hailmary type of throw.

No, I was citing a team that had a decent defense contrary to the post I quoted.

Honestly- I've been on board with you for some time on this.
He has obvious talent, and he is a good Quarterback, but he is a very flawed QB.
Consistent accuracy and brain-farts being at the top of the list.

And yes, I did see him miss Dez and others all day. The INT that went to Miles was a piss-poor throw.
He's been doing this every week.

Ok, cool. We are seeing the same things then. Our opinions probably differ just slightly on his over all ability and how far he could take us if we had a better system in place. I am of the mindset that he has never shown he can deliver in elimination type games and even with a better coach, better defense, and better GM, he still has to make the throws and not make bad decisions. They can't think or throw the ball for him. Think Alex Smith 2 years ago in SF. Only difference is Alex Smith is smarter and protects the ball better on average.

Romo did not put us in position to lose. The defense did. We disagree. If we had SOME SEMBLANCE of a defense, we would not be having this discussion. I am not Romos' biggest fan, but he is not responsible for this loss IMO.

So, as I was reading this post, I was really on the same page with you until the bottom of it. Is Romo our #1 problem? Hell no he isn't! Does anyone think he is? Not that I know of. I think the general consensus is Jerry Jones is the #1 problem, followed by the coaching staff, and then defense. I never see anyone point all the blame to Tony. With all that said, I agree with you that Romo is "A" problem here and that is not because he doesn't have enough support around him.

Also, at the end of your post, you say you feel if Romo had the right pieces around him he could lead us to a super bowl. I couldn't possibly disagree more with you. He has shown nothing at all, actually quite the contrary that he could lead this team to a super bowl.

I don't know, i mean i seriously know where you are coming from. He's really not done much to make us feel that he can completely take over a game, especially against a great defense, in a hostile environment.

But with the right pieces (coaching included), I believe he can finally break from his mental lapses that he has at the end of games. I think he puts pressure on himself which causes him to panic in those situations which then leads to the interceptions. I believe a good coach can change that. Like a parcells type, but at Romos age, i don't think we will see that.

I see you are 28, is that correct? Well, perhaps you don't know. Brady was drafted in 2000 , which means that Coach Landry had coached his last game in the NFL (I think you might have been 3 years old) approximately 12 years before Brady was even an option. I think we can move on as to why Coach Landry never drafted Brady.

In 1999, Bill Parcells retired from football so again, would have been very hard for him to have made the decision to draft Brady as well.

Honestly, I am not sure what you are trying to prove here. You don't agree, that's fine. It's a free country. Let it go.

You implied that Landry/Parcells didn't want QBs like Marino/Favre, and the "proof" you presented was that neither coach drafted them.

So that must mean that Tom Brady lasted as long as he did because nobody wanted a QB like him, right? The Lions simply preferred a guy like Joey Harrington (1st rounder the next year) and wouldn't change their minds even in hindsight!

No coach in his right mind would prefer Jeff Hostetler over Dan Marino or Vinny Testaverde over Brett Favre. But that's what you were trying to sell here.

Roger Staubach for Craig Morton.

Anything else you need to know?

Yes, there is more I need to know.

What about Parcells?

And given the benefit of hindsight, would Landry make the same QB call again?

Didn't think so.

You answer your question which indicates you want to affirm in your mind you are right.

But you are not right.

Landry would change Morton for Staubach time and time again.

Parcels saw Romo and his upside and realized he would never achieve what he wanted because he would need to break the spirit of Romo and make him a pure pocket passer and eliminate the free lancing he does that gets him in trouble.

What did Parcels do after the Seattle loss?

He quit instead of molded Romo into something he will never be.

Has there ever been more of an affirmation on what a coach would do after seeing a kid with moxey and a sandlot nature play for half a season?

I never said Romo put us in a position to lose I said he puts us in a position to win but continues to fall apart when big games are on the line. He's being paid a huge contract to come through in those final minutes but continues to fold. Matt Flynn who's a journeymen wasn't even with the Packers at the start of the season but played like the QB who's getting paid the big contract. As for who's responsible for the loss that falls on the defense and Romo they both played a part. Even as poorly as the defense played in the second half the Cowboys still had the lead until Romo's turnovers.

Haha Parcells is on record as saying he KNOWS that Romo is good enough to win a Super Bowl with. As recently as 2011 he said there is no doubt in his mind about that.

He had 3 full seasons watching Romo develop THEN inserted him as the starter. Why do that if you don't think the kid will ever be what you want him to be?

And what makes you think Landry would take Morton over Staubach again? Do you have anything to back that up?
