He will play next year. He has almost a year to let it heal and become stronger. Clearly it was not healed properly in the first place enough for him to come back and take hits from 300lb guys at full speed.

As far as how long he has left altogether? 2 years max I think.

2 years worth of games over the next 8 seasons, maybe.

He is only due 8.5m next year but has 31m in dead money
In 2017 he is due 14m but his dead money is down to 19m.

I see two more years max.
We need to sign a vet like RGIII, Kap or Manziel for back-ups and start drafting QBs early. Silver lining may be a Top 5 pick this year.

We won't draft QB even if we are #1 to pick and their is a great QB. Jerry is in LOVE with Romo and is oblivious to his age, injuries, and lack of success in win and in/playoff games. Romo's best chance at a super bowl was last year. That dude is mentally and physically done. Some of you just can't see the light because you are emotionally attached to him like Jerry.

If we pick him up in the off-season, next year will be his 3rd year in the NFL.

If we keep Romo and we will, we need a veteran back-up that has won games in this league.

RGIII, Kap and Manziel are athletic enough to survive the pressure they will get.

Then we draft a QB early and let Romo train him a couple years.

Before yesterday's game, I was in the camp that said finding a Romo replacement did not appear to be that pressing of a need, but considering he didn't make it through two games to start the season, and then he didn't make it through two games before being injured again, there's no denying it anymore...

Romo will still be our starter to begin the 2016 season I'm sure, and I'm still optimistic that next season could be much better for him and the team... I'm still hopeful that Romo could have 2 or 3 more good seasons in him, so I'm totally not ready to give up on the Romo era, but based on what we saw this season, we absolutely need to start a serious search for our next QB...

I'm not saying anything that anybody here would disagree with, but I would have disagreed with what I'm saying had I heard it 24 hours ago...

After yesterday, he could have played his last down as a Cowboy. Any sensible GM would designate him a 'June 1st ' cut.

RG3? Are people serious? He cant play in the NFL. Manziel? Will never be a consistent starter.

If we released Romo after this season, the dead money is $31 million against 2016 cap.

Even if we made him a June 1st cut, he would then count $15.5 million against the 2016 cap and $15.5 million against he 2017 cap.

This is what happens when you restructure your QBs contract multiple times, you cant just pull the rip cord and start over. How the hell are you going to account for over $30 million in dead money?

Romo pretty much has to be our starter in 2016. There just aren't any NFL-ready prospects in this coming draft. So, the ideal scenario would be to draft a guy and have him sit behind Romo and hope Romo stays healthy for the next couple years. The rookie would get all those Wednesday practices with the first team, so he'd at least have that going for him.

I think the quarterbacks we will have next year are already on the rooster. Right or wrong that's the way it is. They only change would be if Romo flat out retires for health reasons. Anyway, this team has way too many holes beyond the quarterback to make that draft priority number 1. Our defense has zero playmakers and we need a shut down corner bad.

Also play calling is consistently inconsistent. Why in the world would they continue to call sweeps against the fastest most athletic linebackers in the league? Anyway, we need corners bad and safety's just as bad. I think a new defensive coach is in order, however you can't coach mud. We have a lot of mud on this team right now.

50 to 60% chance JJ takes a QB in the draft IMO, unless an Aaron Rodgers type player is there when we pick.
We need a RB, WR, impact player on D, among other needs.

If a shinny object non-QB type player is there, JJ will take him.

And we need a psychiatrist to figure out our OL this year. They ran blocked very well against a good DL last week and then are bad this week.
