I can see it now.....With the first pick the 2016 draft the Dallas Cowboys trade down into the 2nd rd to 2 extra picks. With those picks they select another tight end who will never see the field, a and two guys that are full of potential and were great all around athletes at so and so school. Watching todays game also confirmed to me we are in dire need of a talented DT as well.

What concerns me is that the clavicle is supposedly easy to break once it has been broken. So, we could get in a situation where he may play the first 10 games of the season, get knocked out with another clavicle injury and then we come back with him in 2017 and the same injury occurs.

I think he still has enough tread on the tire if he can avoid that clavicle injury. But even still, an injury to a different area of the body may make him no longer effective.

He probably has 2 years in him. The urgency to find the next QB is because the team won't get another low pick like this until Romo retires and the team goes through a season without him.

It's not quite a Luck/Manning thing, I think. Because I don't think there will be a QB in the draft as highly coveted as Luck was. The pick, well with Cassel, things look good for the #1 overall pick.

I don't think this will ultimately affect how much time Tony has left. With no need to worry about getting him back soon, I'm sure they will have the surgery this time. It's frustrating to have to go through this, but at least we have no delusions about how to approach the backup position next year (and many other positions as well).

Have to worry that the same clavicle has been broken 3 times now in the past 5 years.

We got a chance at a top 3 pick. Need to capitalize on that with a QB that can take the reigns as soon as Tony goes down again. Paxton Lynch looks like the real deal and if I had to wager now, I'd say he will be on the board when Dallas picks.

That's really doesn't make sense; that's not how bones work. Once they heal they're fine, but they have to be given the proper time.

It's ignorant fan talk.

Are we seriously sitting here lamenting over the potential of a broken clavicle ending Romo's career? Tell me we're not having this conversation. This is why people laugh at us.

That's why this is a non issue for next year. He'll now have that time to heal it completely.

I hate to say I'm happy he got hurt, but I do think it's in the best interest of the Cowboys. 1) draft pick and 2) maybe this will convince the team to get the next QB ASAP.

No, a broken clavicle in itself is an injury that has little lingering long term effects.

Having said that, how many QBs have broken theirs 3 times in 5 years?

I wonder if they even bother with surgery and just give the clavicle the proper time and treatment to heal. I heard with clavicle injuries the best remedy is time, but I am not an MD or Health Professional by any means so I am just going on hearsay.

Most mocks have Paxton as the #1 QB on the board. Next on mocks is QB Jared Goff then QB Conner Cook.

My question is, are the current mocks only considering seniors? If so, what Juniors might come out that might move up draft boards past the 3 mentioned above?

Dallas should have a shot at one of the top 3 QBs in the draft. Cleveland (2-7) and SF (3-7) are the QB needy teams that are in the running for an early pick. The Saints at (4-6) are in their too. But if Brees stays healthy, it's hard to imagine they lose more games than Clev, SF, DAL.

It's time to draft a QB... I like the QB from NC State in the 3rd round.

I seriously hope we don't pin this franchise'a future on a third round project qb, if we are really going for the qb of the future here then it needs to be our #1 pick, who is likely top 7, at this point the question is lynch, goff or cook, IMO

Pretty sure goff is a junior

for me it doesn't come down to how many years he has left but how many games he will play in. You can't consistently win in this league when starting QB misses huge chunks of playing time when he gets injured. How many more times will Dallas be drafting in top 5? This might be Dallas best window to address this glaring issue.

If he keeps getting hurt, I would imagine quite a lot.

I think that's a little exaggerated. Before this year, he's had one season where he missed more than 3 games.

Or to put it another way:

Assuming he is done for the year, this is the 3rd time in 6 seasons Romo has failed to finish the season -- 2010, 2013, 2015.

Is 50% statistically significant?

He will play next year. He has almost a year to let it heal and become stronger. Clearly it was not healed properly in the first place enough for him to come back and take hits from 300lb guys at full speed.

As far as how long he has left altogether? 2 years max I think.
