Yeah, I bought 5 or 6 of his rookie cards just in case he became really good. That didn't work out. :) I also have 7 SP Authentic Romo rookies...still have high hopes for those!

I did too, though not 5.

From someone who watched both Meredith AND Staubauch play...Romo stands alone. Neither Meredith nor Staubauch hand the physical skills nor the presence on the field. I can't tell you how many time Staubauch was ABSOLUTELY blindsided by both blitzing corners and linebackers. Romo has always had a second sense to where his pressure was coming from. If you are going to use Staubach as and example...remember who he was, and who he played with.

I would dispute your assessment that Staubah didn't have the presence on the field. I saw Staubach escape many rushes, duck under rushes and spin away from rushes.
Second, I think something many posters take for granted when discussing Romo's toughness vs. Staubach's or any quarterback of yesteryear's toughness is that i's a different game today - mentally and psychologically. Pass rushers just can't T off on quarterbacks today as they did in the past. In essence, they have to second-guess their rushes in a way Deacon Jones and Joe Green didn't. So quarterbacks also aren't getting blasted like they did in the past.

I don't believe Romo is more elusive than Staubach, but I don't sweat anyone who thinks otherwise. But these pronouncements that you're wrong if you believe Staubach is tougher, more elusive, etc., are childish not to mention ridiculous.

Really hate when we have to come up with subjective opinions on Cowboy greats of the past and current Cowboys. I don't bring stats into the equation as the sole reason because of different eras, rules, outdoor stadiums, team strengths at the time, etc........but anyone who says that Tony is more mobile or athletic than Roger is short sighted when it comes to Roger's skills-------heck he was a Heisman winner at NAVY......freaking Navy...and took a 5 year hiatus before his Cowboys career. I look at W-L and how their team played with them at the helm. Who cares which team had better players, did they play above their potential during that period? Did the QB bring out the best in that team? Did they actually win the BIG enchilada--which is synanomous to GREAT? A good/hot QB can actually win the SB once, look at Doug Williams, Trent Dilfer, Joe Freaking Flacco. It takes a GREAT QB to win multiple SBs.

Roger WON 2 SBs and could have won at least another if not for a Jackie Smith drop. In order for Tony to be in the conversation, he HAS to win at least 1, but probably 2 SBs. That's the cold hard fact. Come back after that and we can evaluate it further. Not taking anything from Tony, he has actually been great for an UDFA.
But going into the playoffs this year, we will finally see how he does. Its put up or shut up time. You want to be the Big Kahuna, its showtime.

I think we're looking at a tough road regardless. Detroit would likely be easier to beat at AT&T, but then we'd be looking at GB at Lambeau. If we get GB at home, I still think we beat them, if we can stick to our recipe of controlling the clock and putting up a lot of points. But then we'd be looking at playing at Detroit, which doesn't seem as imposing as playing in GB, but still, we seem to have rotten luck when we play there. So, what I'm rooting for is that the GB/Det game goes into overtime, both teams get beat up pretty good, they get into a few skirmishes and maybe a player or two gets suspended for his next game.

As much as I want a Cowboys Superbowl victory this year for my own selfish reasons, I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, want one for Romo. He deserves it and his detractors can go suck an egg.
