Tony Romo's locker still open

His number has also not been given out per ESPN.

Considering Jerry Jones publicly came out and said Romo is not retired a few weeks ago only adds more fuel to the fire that he is really our backup QB.

I remember a Romo interview a few years ago when he said he would rather not win a Super Bowl with Dallas than go somewhere else and win one...at the time you would think that's all talk but it seems he is serious.

I still wouldn't count on it if I was Dallas but it does seem very likely that Romo and Jerry have a gentlemen's agreement.

  • At some point the Cowboys will honor Tony Romo, but it might have to wait until the quarterback officially decides to retire. Or at least go through his first season with CBS. But they have honored him in an indirect way so far. Nobody is wearing No. 9 on the current roster and unless they had a quarterback with an affinity for the number, it could be a while before they choose to give out the number. Nobody wears No. 12 because of Roger Staubach. Nobody wears No. 8 because of Troy Aikman. Inside The Star, the Cowboys have yet to move a player into Romo’s old locker, either. That could change. Coach Jason Garrett has put team leaders at different corners of the locker room, but Romo’s spot remains vacant.

I really thought we were done with this

We are on the verge of the slowest part of all of offseason. For a few weeks, the only likely news is potentially negative news.

Jerry wants it that way. Purposely not having a retirement ceremony for Romo he having one for Ware is suspicious. Couple that with this tidbit of news and no investment in a real backup only makes it more obvious.

We could still be having this conversation 3 years from now if Dak couldn't play for some reason unless Dallas invests in a real backup.

The only way to really end this is go after Kaepernick or someone similar. We should've signed Fitzpatrick...being a smart, Ivy League guy...he would've fit right in and he signed to be a backup.

The offseason sucks, man! I guess we're at that point where any "news" is news, ey Rob? :)

 man stop it, no one is going to be worried about a 40 year old Romo

So if Dak goes down for an extended time 3 years from now...you're trying to tell me nobody will mention Romo? Assuming we don't have a capable backup and Jason Garrett is still the coach and Jerry jones is still the owner. Even if it's not from the Cowboys, some fan or pundit will make it a story.

Jerry is the master salesman.

I don't know if it was this thread or not, but man I'll repeat myself: if college is supposed to get kids ready for the real world, why are we talking about Kaepernick & Fitzpatrick?

I know Tony used to take Wednesdays off, but skipping the entire off-season might effect his game preparation a little bit more.

I watched Vinny Testerverde at age 40 something come in during the middle of the week and win a game so I'm sure if Tony had to he could probably come in at any time and play at a fairly high level.

I really hope we dont' have to deal with that same qb controversy stuff we dealt with last year... If Dak has a bad game, fans are screaming for Romo to come out of the booth and back onto the team...

I wouldn't go so far to call Romo our "unofficial" backup QB, but I do think if something catastrophic happened and Dak was sidelined for an extended period we'd see Romo "come out of retirement".

Now if something minor happened and Dak missed a game or two I think it'd just be the Kellen Moore show for a couple weeks.

So if Dak blows out his ACL in week 3, Romo is just going to be able to leave CBS? Thought those guys worked contractually. He's just going to leave them hanging and have them drag Simms off the pregame? Just don't see it happening

I would assume there's an "out" written into his broadcasting contract.

- Romo hasn't officially retired
- There is no planned ceremony/honoring of him this year in Dallas
- No one has been assigned #9
- And now his locker is still there?

.....hmmmmmm
