This is the same situation they were in during the 2017 season: They dropped back-to-back conference games early in the year and were essentially screwed in terms of WC tiebreakers. Unlike in 2017, they aren’t contending with a surging Eagles team. So prospects aren’t as grim.

Looks like the 49ers, Packers and Saints will battle it out for the top 3 seeds.

Best case scenario is the Cowboys at #4 and getting a team like the Rams or Vikings at home. Maybe they win. Maybe they don't.

If they win, they get slammed on the road the following week.

In other words, another typical Jason Garrett year. And that's the best case. We may not make the playoffs at all if the Eagles start rebounding.

Maybe that's for the best. Garrett would have to be gone if they miss the playoffs, wouldn't he?

You should stage a protest.

Handcuff yourself to the goalposts of the Cowboys outdoor practice facility.

We'll come by and bring you food. Eventually Jerry will give in and met your demands.

This is truely a “Glass half empty” post..

Looking that far ahead is a premature. Last year ab this time, folks were saying we were done and already talking ab the draft.. a few years earlier, Romo goes down and people conceded the season.

The best coaches out there will tell ya.. make it to the playoffs and the second season starts. These top teams may still be great, but injuries effect the playoffs tremendously. Dallas is 3-0 in their division and basically control their own destiny. Not to mention, we have the talent to play toe to toe against any of these teams.

By the original OP’s own admission, he has Dallas making the playoffs.. that’s a successful season for most teams. Is it enough? Hell no. But as a fan, I’m going to enjoy the season and root for the best. If our Boys make the playoffs, we have a chance. I’m definitely not going to concede the season bc I’m concerned about what other teams are doing. If Dallas continues to play to their abilities like they did against the Eagles.. well, we can win it all as much as any of the teams mentioned.

Throwing in the towel in October? Come on man. Things change very quickly in the NFL. 3 games behind with 9 to play does not pose insurmountable odds.
It is not insurmountable, but is unlikely.
I look at losses, more than wins, a team can only have x # of losses and be WC or be 1 of top 2 seeds.
Dallas already has 3 losses, if they can win all of their remaining games, 13-3 , that is the best they can do.
If the teams with 0,1,2 losses win all their games Dallas cannot pass them.
Being 2 games behind doesnt sound like much but it is, Dallas has to win when that team wins, and when they lose twice.
They can only lose if the other team loses, but then they stay the same.
Dallas needs a big win streak to get one of the top 2 seed spots, and they would still need the teams ahead of them
to lose 2-3 games with Dallas not losing any games.

My guess is the best Dallas can do is 7-2 in final 9 games, and that leaves them at 11-5.
That might get a top seed spot but I doubt it.
I think 12-4 or better to get a top seed.
That would mean Dallas has to win all 9 or go 8-1, and I dont think they will do that.

The main thing for Dallas is to stay ahead of Phil and win the div. Then at least they make the playoffs, no matter how
many losses they have.
And there is no telling how dallas would do in playoffs, but getting past the div round is something they havent done
since 95.

Good point, my main goal for dallas is just to make the playoffs, that way fans get at least 1 playoff game, which is to me
so much better than dallas not being in playoffs at all.
Have a winning season, the more wins the better is a good thing.
Some people are obsessed with super bowl, and if team cant get there and win they are a failure.
I dont see it like that.
It has been too long for dallas though to have not made it to a SB, or even the nfc champ game.
But with a coach like garrett, fans just need to be happy about just making the playoffs.

So, either a team will slam us or won't....where we play isn't the #1 factor in the outcome of any game.

what he is saying is not out of reality, the playoffs are a bit of reach at this point. Come on guys, 20 plus years of JJ saying "i dont want the SB' and you guys still think JJ wants the SB.

You're absolutely right. You should quit watching the games and quit posting here.

I mean I get what you’re saying but at least wait till Week 9 or 10. Jerry still has a big fat stadium mortgage to pay and a yacht payment now to boot...

The sky was falling before even week 1

No it was not. We had some on here talking SB especially after week 3.

Apparently being realistic and pointing out the damn obvious is now equivalent to being chicken little, lol. The Cowboys have brought this mindset onto themselves because of their history including this season. Beating up on the terrible NFC East and the lowly Dolphins while crapping the bed against everyone else including a winless Jets team.

They don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Getting into the playoffs should be the only consideration. There is very little need of getting flustered over the possibility of not landing a top three seed. This franchise had two number one seeds within the past decade and did not convert either into a postseason advantage.

It can be a harder road to travel as a number four or as a wildcard but it is not a dead end. Teams united and executing will win at home and on the road in the playoffs. History has proven that.

The real question is whether the 2019 Cowboys will become a team deserving of a playoff spot or not. The four wins suggest they are. The three losses equally say that are not worthy. The next nine games are opportunities for the team to decide with a single voice which side of that fence they are aiming for.

Destiny rests in the palms of their hands. Hopefully, they will follow all the way through and not allow destiny to drop incomplete like some passes have so far this season.

The odds are 12 and 4 will get you in the hunt for a 1 or 2 seed most years. Lot of football left to play. If we take care of business things tend to even out. Packers should have 3 losses right now. Give it time. More than half a season left to play for most teams.

You could conceivably end up playing at home in the championship game with an upset or two as the #4 seed. Relax and take some midol and I recommend an ice pack for your sore labia.

With Garrett you lose those one or two games you should win because of coaching. Jets is a perfect example.

But on top of that, we simply arent good enough on D to make a run.

I always hope for the best but I think in season we’re gonna finish w 4th seed but that doesn’t mean we don’t get hot late and go on a run in playoffs.

wishful thinking

You never know what could happen. One of those teams could lose their HOF starting QB for several weeks. Oh wait a minute..
