I agree the fourth seed is as high as the Cowboys can get. I disagree the wildcards aren’t in play. The top wildcard contenders right now are Seattle, Minnesota, and Los Angeles. The Cowboys play two of those three at home.

Good point, my main goal for dallas is just to make the playoffs, that way fans get at least 1 playoff game, which is to me
so much better than dallas not being in playoffs at all.
Have a winning season, the more wins the better is a good thing.
Some people are obsessed with super bowl, and if team cant get there and win they are a failure.
I dont see it like that.
It has been too long for dallas though to have not made it to a SB, or even the nfc champ game.
But with a coach like garrett, fans just need to be happy about just making the playoffs.
Home playoff game would be great. Bye week even better.

Everybody knows Nov. and Dec. is where the contenders step up. Can DAL put together a 4-5 game win streak?

Looks like the 49ers, Packers and Saints will battle it out for the top 3 seeds.

Best case scenario is the Cowboys at #4 and getting a team like the Rams or Vikings at home. Maybe they win. Maybe they don't.

If they win, they get slammed on the road the following week.

In other words, another typical Jason Garrett year. And that's the best case. We may not make the playoffs at all if the Eagles start rebounding.

Maybe that's for the best. Garrett would have to be gone if they miss the playoffs, wouldn't he?

Que Jim Mora...Playoffs, you talking about playoffs?

Dallas has a tough schedule in the 2H. Real tough. Minnesota, Philly, Rams, and Detroit games will be huge. They MUST win the division to make the playoffs in order for them to be dismantled in the divisional round.

So you are saying the Packers and Saints couldn't lose three in a row for some reason? The 49ers have a great defense, but their offense is not great...the run game isn't going to dominate every week like last week. At some point, Crapalo has to throw the ball.

I wouldn't be concerned with the top 3 seeds at this point, I would be concerned about winning the East and just getting in because a WC isn't likely coming out of the East.

A successful season to me is 1) a winning season, 2) playoffs as a WC, 3) division winner, 4) NFCCG, 5) SB and 6) NFL Champions. I do not get the SB or even NFCCG as that or bust. The NFL is very competitive this season and particularly the NFC and with that many good teams and a hearty schedule, it will be a tough road for any team to the SB as the NFC representative.

I wonder about the expectations that some have that at times seem to be in a vacuum disregarding the other teams. There are some that are entitled and think they deserve more and some that refuse to stop upping the evaluation of a player just because he plays on their team but we are owed nothing and choose to be fans.

I do not think there's one poster here that's turning in their fan card if the team has a losing record this season. That advice we always hear coaches and players give out "one game at a time", you should all try that. Just focus in on this one upcoming game and do not let that affect your season, put your season on hold for that game. When I changed a season for 16 games to 16 1 game seasons, this became a hell of a lot more enjoyable. While you're eating a steak or a favorite food, are you concerned about what you will be eating in a week? The sport is meant to be enjoyed within the game, not just as a game within the season.

My way of thinking is once you get in the playoffs, anything can happen. The Cowboys consistently winning the division would be a step up from their usual track record.

These teams don't lose to the Jets..........

The 49ers, Packers and Saints all play each other. Their Win and Loss columns will be all over the place by the end of the year.

The 49ers and Packers have the most difficult schedules of the three teams you mentioned.

Saints seem to have the easiest schedule and their starting QB is back. Their most formidable opponents are the 49ers and Colts at this point.

But, tough to say what happens with those teams half-way through the season.

Don't discount the Vikings, Lions, Seahawks or Rams.

The Cowboys have the most talented team all the way around. Offense, Defense and Special Teams.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me it's not about having to win the Super Bowl, it's about believing this team is good enough to win one going into the playoffs. That's what makes it more exciting, like in '07, '14, and '16. Like pretty much every year from '75 to '83. The OP is just pointing out that this isn't one of those years, playoffs or not. I personally haven't thrown in the towel yet because it's too early. I still hold out hope Dallas can go on a run and it will be one of those years.
