1. DeMarcus Ware. Only Patrick Willis is as vital to his team's defense.

2. Jason Witten. Best TE in the NFL and getting better.

3. Terrell Owens. A top 5 WR in the NFL. Maybe top 3.

4. Terence Newman. Top 5 CB.

5. Tony Romo. Top 5 QB.

Are we talking favorites or best?

If it's best, then I agree with your list. If it's favorites, then I have to throw in a couple of guys with "attitude:" Marion The Barbarian and Marc Colombo.

I'd have trouble eliminating any you listed, though, but Owens would probably be one of them because he loves him some him a little too much.

Can't eliminate Moxie, Witten's run without his helmet cemented his place and DWare is just so much fun to watch, so I guess Newman would have to go... although he's probably tied with Colombo in my mind.

We've also got some other guys who are going to be fun to watch because of their attitude: Zach Thomas and Deon Anderson spring to mind for different reasons.

1. Ware

2. Romo - Our MVP and a top 5, probably top 3, Quarterback. Has to be 1 or 2.

3. Owens

4. Newman

5. Witten

All of those guys are most likely top 2 on any other team.

#1 DeMarcus Ware - It's been a long, LONG time since I knew for a fact that a front seven Cowboys defensive player filled opposing teams' offense with fear every game.

#2 Jason Witten - He has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is a top offensive playmaker both at and outside his position.

#3 Tony Romo - The franchise quarterback successor drought was finally broken by an undrafted free agent, but he has played well enough to begin speaking his name along with Staubach and Aikman. Settle down, CrazyCowboy. I said begin. He still has a ways to go.

#4 Terence Newman - Opposing quarterbacks acknowledge his statue on this team by rarely throwing in his direction. 'nuff said.

#5 Mat McBriar - This guy doesn't get enough love, so I will. He has rarely, RARELY let me down. When its time to punt, I know he's going to do his job to give the opposing team the worst field position humanly possible.

Honorable Mention - Marion Barber & Jay Ratliff, both of whom I'm expecting to see much more gritty, hardnosed football on either side of the LOS.

From an opposing fan's perspective:

1) TO - Bottom line, you would be average without him
2) Ware - He's the TO of the defense
3) Witten - Great TE, he is the fuel to TO's fire
4) Newman - I think he's a bit overrated because he's not the gamechanger a top-5 player should be, but he's the rock of the secondary, without him, you would look like swiss cheese
5) Romo - I think he's overrated, but he creates opportunities. I question his ability to produce without TO.
1) Duh.
2) Agreed.
3) Best in the league
4) That is a contradiction.
5) An opposing fan's perspective without a shred of truth to it. Look how great Drew Bledsoe looked with TO as his QB, right? Romo deserves some credit here.

How is number 4 a contradiction? I said he was the rock in the secondary, he will cover a receiver very well, but he doesn't intercept a lot of balls so I don't consider him a game-changer like you would, say, Champ Bailey.

You're obviously biased so I'll dismiss #3. Antonio Gates produces at the level that Witten did this year just about every year. Witten is a better blocker, but we are talking about different skill sets and if I had my choice of any TE in the league, I would take Gates.

Number 5 has no truth to it? So he doesn't create opportunities? Either way, at that point in his career, Bledsoe was a horrible QB, it's like comparing Romo to what Brad Johnson does if he is forced into action for an appreciable time. Romo has to prove he can produce without TO, TO has produced without Romo.

Thank you firehawk. Even a skins fan knows TO is THE man on this Cowboys team. I dont care how popular Romo, Witten, or Newman is. But i do think Newman is the best corner in the game regardless. TO is also the best reciever in the NFL.

some of you guys lists gave me a chuckle... :lmao:

seriously... if T.O. isnt in the top 5. then crumble up your list and throw it in the trash. without T.O. our pass game is literally non-existent and the whole offense starts looking like we are the Baltimore Ravens.

anyways on to my list.

1 - DeMarcus Ware. [irreplaceable, dude never stops amazing me]
2 - Terrell Owens [key to the offense, key to Witten's success]
3 - Leonard Davis [worth every penny]
4 - Tony Romo [good QB, still has to win in the playoffs tho]
5 - Marion Barber [touchdown machine]

1. Romo

2. TO

3. Witten

4. Ware

5. MBIII

Davis, Hamlin and Colombo get honorable mention. If Henry can stay healthy for 16 games he would get into my top 5.

EDIT: I did not see FAVORITE.

Tough to only choose 5.

1. Romo
2. Ware
3. Witten
4. TO
5. Hamlin

Honorable & Future Stars -- Colombo, Spencer, and Ratliff

I hope we have capable young talent to step in soon for some of the free agents after the next few years. But Dallas is in better shape talent wise than they have been in 13 years. So here is hoping that they can do something special this next year.

In no particular order......

Jason Witten
Roy Williams - sorry, not going to stop liking a player because of his media/fan perceived suckiness
Demarcus Ware
Tony Romo
Marion Barber

What? No TO?.....uhhhhh, NOPE. I like what he brings to the table for production and he's been a model citizen, but just like a previously despised player like Deion Sanders, they will never be on a favorite list even after becoming a Cowboy.

Honorable mention as "underdogs": Austin Miles, McQ - I always seem to take a liking to a "developmental" type or backup player in hopes they can make it from scrub to star.
