Been watching football for 20 years, honestly never heard anyone complaining about this rule.
Professional complainers. You see them even complaining that the Cowboys won.

This is NOT correct.Well anywhere else on the field you can't fumble forward. I completely understand their frustration, just like I understand the Steeler's with the catch rule.
The Cowboys won. That is the uproar. Reaction to the Cowboys is always different. If Dak had made this gaffe, it would define his career just like Romo with the bobble. But the media won't let it define Carr because he's not a Cowboy. That’s not true. Players fumble forward all the time. The forward fumble recovery rule only applies after the two minute warning of each half and on fourth down. So it’s not just the end zone. Fumbles are treated differently on a specific down and with specific amounts of time remaining as well.
There are different rules for different specific situations all over the NFL rulebook. I don’t get the uproar over this one.

I understand their frustration. But to me, there is no comparison between the touchback rule and the convoluted rules that define what is and is not a catch.
So funny how the majority of Raiders fans think the touch back rule is stupid and should be spotted at the point it was fumbled and given back to the team that fumbled. Are you fricken kidding me???
Good pointThe Raiders are the reason for a lot of fumble rules.
Stables fumble forward to Casper.
How is it different? We don't reward the defense if they don't recover the ball outside the endzone so why should they be rewarded when it's out of the endzone.
Why do we reward the defense for tackling the offense in their own end zone? Let's get rid of the touch back rule AND the safety rule.
After all, why should end zones be treated differently? It's not as if the entire game is built around defending yours and penetrating your opponent's or anything.![]()

Because it's positive play for the defense, on the side of the field that's more beneficial for the defense's team. When an offense is at it's own 1 yard line if they go nowhere the opposing team will probably start in their territory after the punt. When the offensive player fumbles through the end zone you are rewarding a defense that couldn't stop the offense from driving down the field in the first place.
I do not know. Maybe the goalline of where the player went out of bounds. I do not like position is handled differently in the field vs the endzone.

Because the goal line, by rule, has always extended beyond the pylon. It’s the same reason a player scoring a TD doesn’t have to ever even touch the ground in the end zone. Fly over everything, but inside the pylon, and it’s a TD.

- On a play from scrimmage, if an offensive player fumbles anywhere on the field during fourth down, only the fumbling player is permitted to recover and/or advance the ball. If any player fumbles after the two-minute warning in a half, only the fumbling player is permitted to recover and/or advance the ball. If recovered by any other offensive player, the ball is dead at the spot of the fumble unless it is recovered behind the spot of the fumble. In that case, the ball is dead at the spot of recovery. Any defensive player may recover and/or advance any fumble at any time.

Wrong. You are punishing the offense for carelessly neglecting the most important item on the field - the football.
Florio at PFT has made it his cause du jour....... so you know it is lame
Rich Eisen was whining about it all day as well on the radio..... another nerd
