Now is the time to pry Rogers away. Judging by the comments from coaches and teammates, he might not be welcomed back. Peerless is not happy being inactive and he is not a future solution at WR anyway. Rogers could be.

Ya think there is a reason he isn't welcome? Let's see -- injury history, not at all productive, drug suspension.

Give up a 3rd? Wow -- you are generous -- tell me is HanfordDixon really Jerry Jones circa the late 90's and 2000?

thats a little much to give up for an unproven, injury prone, drug user... dontchya think?

While I wouldn't be entirely against bringing him to Dallas, it would have to be on the cheap because he has bust written all over him.

Can we assume from this post that HanfordDixon would be suspended along with Rogers if he was in the NFL?

Yes, a 3rd is probably too high. I was thinking that before posting it. A 4th or 5th might be better. Remember this man was taken top 5 overall and was a tremendous talent coming out of college. We have nothing outside of Crayton for the future and there's no guarentee Patrick is more than a decent third option in the spread.

The trade would be more about addition by subtraction because I don't think it's working out for Price here. And you take a flyer on a guy who could turn it around with a change of scenary.

Worked for Chris Carter, Jimmy Smith and so on.

Rogers is 6-3, 220 and was the 2nd overall pick in the draft.

Sometimes you gotta take chances if you're going to return to the top.

A 5th rounder and Price. Offer it.

Why?

What comments did teammates and coaches make about Peerless Price?

I wouldnt want Charles Rogers. I would just rather draft a guy in the 1st or 2nd round and take my chances.

The Raiders gave up 2 picks and a player for Randy Moss.

Owens ended up costing a 5th and a player for Philly.

We'd be getting screwed if it were Price for Rogers STRAIGHT UP.

Detroit would be lucky, and probably very happy, to get a conditional 2nd day pick for him at this point.

Why make a trade for a big contract when this guy will be cut after his suspension? He won't see the '06 season with Detroit. I've got no problem with taking a free look at someone but taking over a big contract, losing a more productive career player who at least has had some time to study the playbook, and giving up a pick for a guy would could hand you out to dry with his next toke -- No freaking way.

I'll go out on a limb right now and say it is never going to happen

You still haven't commented on his suspension for drugs....im waiting to see what your view is on trading for a WR that just got suspened for drugs....

I would only advocate trading Price because I feel sorry for him. Obviously someone told him some lies to get him to sign on the dotted line. From the sounds of it, Price isn't the type to sign up to sit on the sidelines. If we aren't going to use him or give him a chance, trade him to a team that will.

As far as Charles Rogers, I dunno what you been smoking, but it must be pretty potent.

we could trade our PK Juan valdez...for rogers and a good reach around.

We can't give up our best special teams tackler. And the irony is, that's not far from the truth.

No offense, but that isn't a very intelligent comment. Price available to anyone who wished to sign him and nobody was even remotely serious. He is going to be here for 12 more games and that's it. And it doesn't look like he'll even be active, let alone a part of the offense anytime soon.

Detroit would be lucky, and probably very happy, to get a conditional 2nd day pick for him at this point.

As for Rogers, like I said, he's still the 6-3, 220 pound WR who was the 2nd overall pick in the draft. I never heard of any problems with him prior to this one. I imagine he smoked a little pot and got caught.

I can see a 3rd rounder is a bit of a stretch, but 5th rounders are where you take your chances on flawed players anyway. I would jump at that opportunity to get a guy with this talent.

Look at it this way, Antonio Bryant never had the talent Rogers possesses, yet we took a reasonable chance on him with a 3rd rounder. Now a change of scenary has Bryant flourishing. Now I say it again, who wouldn't give up a 5th rounder to see if Rogers can live up to that incredible potential?

Why make a trade for a big contract when this guy will be cut after his suspension?

Well, first of all, I bet he's probably cheaper than Price, who is taking in $1.8 million to be inactive. Financial terms were not released at the time, but Rogers got a $14 million signing bonus. For that reason alone, he is not likely to be cut. The Lions are responsible for that bonus and any cap implications. I imagine the actual salaries are quite low since he got so much money upfront.

Secondly, you trade a relatively low-value 5th round draft pick to get a player with huge upside before any other team gets a chance. If he gets cut, then 31 other teams are competing to sign him and believe me, if Koren Robinson found a home after his lengthy list of problems, then at least a dozen teams would be lining up for a player of Rogers' abilities.

He won't see the '06 season with Detroit. I've got no problem with taking a free look at someone but taking over a big contract, losing a more productive career player who at least has had some time to study the playbook, and giving up a pick for a guy would could hand you out to dry with his next toke -- No freaking way.

Taking chances is what made Dallas great throughout its history -- whether it be drafting Staubach and waiting, or trading for Charles Haley, or drafting Steve Walsh when we had Troy... Price is a short-timer. Rogers could be a franchise WR. It's a no-brainer.

What about it? Michael Irvin used drugs the entire time he was winning you Super Bowls. Randy Moss still smokes weed and is in the league's drug program. Of course you would want to insure that Rogers is committed to not continuing that behavior. But guys with this kind of talent always get second, third and fourth chances.

Because they can dominate games with their sheer ability. Parcells has a nice record of thriving with these kinds of players -- be it LT or Keyshawn. It would of course be up to Bill to determine if Rogers were a kind of player he could get the most out of... but Dallas should be looking into it. We have a real long-term need for a franchise WR.
