If you can find an upgrade, you absolutely do it, especially in a position that was one of the reasons we were much improved last year. So what happens if Randle goes down? Are we really going to leave our season in the hands of Dunbar and McFadden?

Probably not but at the same time what are the chances of them taking 4 running backs into the season?

Honestly, I don't really see what Dunbar brings to the table. They barely run him and he's small, so he's not likely to be in on blocking situations, and he's certainly not going to be carrying any huge workload.

More concerned what happens if Romo goes down or Tyron Smith goes down.

I have to ignore it because they didn't try hard enough to change this running back trio. What on earth could've changed between the draft and training camp? If you were excited by this running back trio before camp you should still be excited about it. You have had these guys out here in preseason with backup offensive linemen blocking for them.

In regards to Demarco.....let's be honest with ourselves. If they wanted him here he'd be here. When has Jerry EVER missed out on keeping his own free agents? They offered him what they knew he wouldn't accept. The Cowboys simply value their offensive line more than they do their running backs.

It was after some time at camp that the FO changed their speak about the RB position. It sounds like they obviously felt that they may have evaluated what they had a little off. Training camp is more than 2 preseason games. They watch these guys in live action day after day. I think most would agree that once camp started it was too late to make any real significant changes to the roster.

It seems much much more likely that they assumed Demarco would take 6.5m per year because of his desire to stay on the team. In fact it wasn't just the money per year it was the guarantee that caused him to leave. If they didn't want Demarco then they would not have offered him 6.5million to stay. You want to pretend they offered him a one year vet minimum contract. They offered him a healthy contract that he would have accepted if not for Chip Kelley getting stupid when he lost Frank Gore. So based on your logic Dallas would have given Demarco 6.5 million when they didn't even want him to play here? Come on man.

There's not going to be a trade for a running back, they're already on the roster, Randle, McFadden, Dunbar and either Clutts or a fourth tight end....

and if the organization picks up a running back, it will be through the waiver wire..

Isn't Jonas Gray going to be the starter in New England with Blount out for a bit? Why would NE trade us their opening day starter for a lame 6th round pick?

Because Belichick will put Gray in the doghouse for some odd reason by game 2 or suddenly stop using him. It's the Patriots, they don't value RBs at all.

I think things will become much clearer after the Vikings game. The first team O-line will probably play the first half, so we'll see who we have then. Unfortunately, guys like Hill & Johnson will still play behind the twos & threes, so it will be harder to make an assessment on them. One of them will have to make a huge statement in order to stick, however.

6.5 Million is a large bluff .....

they werent bluffing; they were hoping he would take it.

I hate what we have right now, but I am not naïve enough to realize we made this bed and now have to lay in it.

There is no magical trade we can make.

I still dream about some team getting rid of a starting quality back, but it just isn't going to happen. That is not how teams function.

no team is going to get rid of a starting quality back. unless they are old and done.

I don't hate what we have. I think randle can do the job. that's why we drafted him in case Murray was injured and/or did great and left. people questioned when we picked murray, then they questioned why we picked randle.

McFadden (who half the people on this board wanted to trade everything to get him), is a good back up.

do we have all world RBs? no. was Murray and all world RB? I don't think so, he benefited a lot from a good offensive line and good game plan. he becamse all world.

do I think we need an 1800 yard back to be successful? no, I actually think we ran too much and forced it at times, and we need to be more aggressive with passing game. I think randle can be a 1200-1300 yard back and that's enough.

My pet cat is Lamar Miller if we're trading picks...

If not then I'm a little skeptical about us working a trade out

Speed at running back has been upgraded with Randle most likely starting and McFadden in the mix (he too has more speed than Murray). Murrray's power running (here no more) has been downgraded.

They say Speed kills..... But I am willing to bet, a big fat ugly Nosegaurd kills too..............

We had that speed last year in Randle. Just didnt see the need to use it that often, I guess?
