I know this probably wont be a popular thread, but please try to hear me out. Outside of the very young Secondary, most would agree that the DL is and has been our weakest position group since the days of Ware, Spencer, Ratliff, etc. Although I personally believe Dallas had accumulated a nice group of young players like Collins, Irving, Tapper, and Taco.. There is still concern due to the inexperience, suspensions, and ever growing list of injured players. I also think most fans opinion of our DL would change drastically if our Boy's had a Premier edge rusher coming off the right side. As much as I like Lawrence, he seems more suitable for the LDE position and would benefit if we had a 'DeMarcus Ware' player at the other end position. That said.. I wondered what our DL would look like had we pulled off a trade like the Cardinals did with the Patriots last year.
Last Year, the Cardinals received Chandler Jones via trade with the Patriots. The Pats received a second round pick and Jonathan Cooper. (Yes, Cooper..the guy thats presently on our team). The Pats went on to parlay that second round pick for Joe Tuney & Malcolm Mitchell. So, I suppose both teams benefitted depending on how you look at it. As far as Arizona is concerned, I believe they are perfectly happy how Chandler Jones performed: 49tkl, 11 sacks, 4 FF, and 3 PD.
My question I guess is.. Without touching the big three.. How would you feel if Dallas could trade Chaz Green or La'el Collins in order to shore up our DL with a Premier Pass rusher? I know we would take a hit with either of them off the team, But we have a mobile Qb and 3/5 of our line is All-Pro's..

Imagine our starting DL looking like this:
Lawrence-Collins-Irving-*Jones/etc

rotating in:
Tapper-Crawford-Paea-Taco/Mayowa

OK, let me have it:/

First what player do you have in mind

Second...teams don't just trade stud pass rushers...Jones was a specific case..teams don't give away double digit sacks guys for 2s

I'm not really sure what player, honestly I was surprised that the Patriots traded Jones.. I'm not even sure if a player would be available.. this is strictly hypothetical. La'el would prob be the only option since he would have been a high first rounder had it not been for the legal matters the day of the draft. Chaz Green filled in admirably for Tyron last year and that shouldn't be overlooked.. of course his health issues also can't be overlooked. Although, Dallas benefited from Marc Colombo a few years back when the Bears tired of his injuries.

Why spend money and draft picks on all of these d-linemen in camp if we're not even going to let them play? Any vet available is just going to be a stop gap progress stopper. Let the younguns play, start getting them some experience and find out what they got to offer.

If these guys all turn out to be duds at seasons end........go all out for next years stud DE at the draft. Trade up to #1 or 2 and get that man, tired of these half-talented pass rushers.

I am only half-kidding of course

If we can trade Chaz Green or La'el Collins for a premier pass rusher, then we should. Yes.
no one is going to give us anything for Green; frequently injured player that has shown flashes but that is all.

Probably would get more for Collins but not enough to get someone worth losing him.

Now if we could say trade McFadden and morris and smith all in one deal you might get someone like Greg Ellis good for 8 or so sacksa year. Which actually would be worth it

NFL currency is draft picks.

If you trade a player you'll get something back similar or worse in return.

If Dallas wants another above average talent they might be able to pull it off with a pick.

Is there any teams that switched to the 3-4 this year? Those are teams that you can get to trade to get a decent player from because they don't fit the new scheme.

ARI traded Cooper to NE for C Jones

Maybe we can trade him back to ARI for CJones and complete the circle

That only happened because Belichick was utterly disgusted with Jones and wanted to make a point.

like others have said.
no one wants green for much.
we need the rt so that is not a spare.

our assets for trading are future draft picks.
the other possibilities rico, twill or butler if butler breaks out.
but rico would hurt a lot as he could be our future TE1 and matchup nightmare particularly after dez hangs it up.

No, he didn't want to pay what C Jones ended up getting and instead got something....... just like J Collins and CLE

Either way people asked for an example and as soon as one is provided haters try to throw shade

Just say, damn I forgot that one

Baltimore is loaded, absolutely loaded, with young EDGE rushers. I would trade for one or even two if possible. A player like Matt Judon, Tim Williams or Tyus Bowser. And I'd also convince Ware to return as a 3rd down specialist, or sign a vet/cut like Freeney.

There is no one solution to improve this hole on the team, the more solutions the better chance for success. ABU, always be upgrading, especially in your areas of weakness.

And would rather trade Scandrick, Lawrence, Crawford, Butler or even Hitchens and/or pick than a starting OL. Never erode your area of dominance to make another area average, pretty soon you'll have 2 areas that are average or slightly better but no longer an area of dominance. And the guys I mentioned are not likely to be retained once their contracts are up, so get something now while alleviating logjam at their respective spots.

Didn't the Rams switch to a 3-4?
