Trade La'el Collins? No.

The guy who could be available is 49ers DE Aaron Lynch. He's a pending free agent and the 49ers are in rebuilding mode. Lynch s only 24 but has some character concerns.

Never erode your area of dominance to make another area average, pretty soon you'll have 2 areas that are average or slightly better but no longer an area of dominance. And the guys I mentioned are not likely to be retained once their contracts are up, so get something now while alleviating logjam at their respective spots.

Great point there

true positions of abundance on the cowboys (knock on wood)
- WR - 6-7 options currently
- TE - 4 assuming swaim and hanna have no set backs.

watch for te/wr injuries on other teams.
possibly close to final cut down time.
also during games 1-4 as we have enough suspensions to stash these assets during those weeks.

I've followed this kid since high school and went to Notre Dame. Weird, bizarre dude. Uber talented.

I'd love his talents on this team but you have to do some real solid research into this guy.

Max Unger for Jimmy Graham
Sam Bradford for Nick Foles
Lesean McCoy for Kiko Alonso
Kenny Stills for Dannell Ellerbe

But yeah. It never happens.

Honestly though, I doubt you could get anything of real value that could make an immediate impact at DE even if trading Collins. And frankly, as noted above, I am not sure it would be all that wise anyway. Now if you tell me we can get JJ Watt or some of that ilk, then sure, I'd trade him in a heartbeat. ;)

I would take another look at Sheldon Richardson as a stop gap.... he has some versatilty that Marinelli likes

There are various off-field and confrontational aspects to those trades.

And who did they actually work out for?

I know this probably wont be a popular thread, but please try to hear me out. Outside of the very young Secondary, most would agree that the DL is and has been our weakest position group since the days of Ware, Spencer, Ratliff, etc. Although I personally believe Dallas had accumulated a nice group of young players like Collins, Irving, Tapper, and Taco.. There is still concern due to the inexperience, suspensions, and ever growing list of injured players. I also think most fans opinion of our DL would change drastically if our Boy's had a Premier edge rusher coming off the right side. As much as I like Lawrence, he seems more suitable for the LDE position and would benefit if we had a 'DeMarcus Ware' player at the other end position. That said.. I wondered what our DL would look like had we pulled off a trade like the Cardinals did with the Patriots last year.
Last Year, the Cardinals received Chandler Jones via trade with the Patriots. The Pats received a second round pick and Jonathan Cooper. (Yes, Cooper..the guy thats presently on our team). The Pats went on to parlay that second round pick for Joe Tuney & Malcolm Mitchell. So, I suppose both teams benefitted depending on how you look at it. As far as Arizona is concerned, I believe they are perfectly happy how Chandler Jones performed: 49tkl, 11 sacks, 4 FF, and 3 PD.
My question I guess is.. Without touching the big three.. How would you feel if Dallas could trade Chaz Green or La'el Collins in order to shore up our DL with a Premier Pass rusher? I know we would take a hit with either of them off the team, But we have a mobile Qb and 3/5 of our line is All-Pro's..

Imagine our starting DL looking like this:
Lawrence-Collins-Irving-*Jones/etc

rotating in:
Tapper-Crawford-Paea-Taco/Mayowa

OK, let me have it:/

First off...............you couldnt get half a bag of stale Doritos for Chaz Green. Someone would hang up the phone laughing at the sheer mention of his name. Or they might say "who the heck is Chaz Green"?

But for my money, I would trade just about anyone on the roster except Dak Prescott for a big time war daddy DE. Heck yah I would trade Collins. But they wouldnt do that deal. And I am not sure JOnes is good enough for anyone other than Collins level.

As far as Lawrence, he is toast after this year. He wont be resigned. We're better off with either Irvin or Taco there going forward. But honestly, even that new line you mentioned doesnt really scare me. We need better.

I would be more than happy to trade Dez Bryant if we could get stud on the Dline.

Lol. Teams don't trade premier pass rushers, period. Much less for swing OTs or RTs.

The Patriots seem to be able to trade for whatever they need. Just another avenue for roster building that the Cowboys dont use.

The common word is that Lawrence looks phenomenal in camp. Don't be so sure about resigning him. (They can franchise him like Spencer if they want to.)

We started rebuilding the Dline 4 years ago via draft. Look at the results. The young guys have been "playing". Guys like Crawford , Dlaw, Irving have been given plenty of time to develop. Guys like mayowa and Thornton are what they are.

To do nothing means that we betting on tapper and taco to be difference makers. How long do we wait to give them a chance to "develop" another 2-3 years?

That's a 7 year rebuild. Lol

Well now you are trying to set new goal posts.

You asked, very simply and clearly, when has a starter been traded for a starter, implying it doesn't happen. He just gave you four examples.

I saw a hypothetical presented elsewhere that looked good to me.

It mentioned talking with the Vikings about DE Danielle Hunter. While we were screwing up and drafting Randy Gregory, the Vikings stole this guy in the third round and he's had something in the range of 28 sacks in his first two seasons. I believe he had 16 last year.

It would take next year's first rounder plus more likely, if the Vikings were even interested in possibly trading him. But I know Minnesota has been doling out contracts and have both current DE's signed for the next few years. If you could trade for him, you'd have him at dirt cheap cost for two years and one of the league's rising stars a team pass rusher.

I'd give up a boatload for the kid if the Vikings would listen. There's a better than average chance the Cowboys would be looking for a pass rusher again next year anyway, why not get a jump start on that and get one a year early?

If there was a guy available, I would have traded this year's first round pick or next year's first round pick. It's time to go for it.

Put Chandler Jones on this team instead of Taco and I'm feeling a lot better.

To be fair, I have no idea about the cap and if we could've fit a premier pass rusher.
