Trade Value: What would it take to get from 22 to 3?

I am continueing to listen and read all the reports about Julius Jones getting traded and who we will get or what we will get in return. Now it is no secret that Adrian Peterson is THE back of the draft and please I dont want to hear all the BS about how he cant stay healthy. The guy is a stud and has been a stud since he was the top back coming out of high school. He has the size, speed, attitude and simply can do it all. Hell he is as good as a sure thing as Calvin Johnson!

Now with that said I would like to hear what would it take to trade up from our draft position of 22 to get to the number 3 spot to draft him.

Although Cleveland has sign Jamal Lewis and traded Droughns, they still could use a quality back in this new two back league. I say we trade Jones to Cleveland and a second and fifth round pick.

Or trade Jones and a Canty plus a third and fifth round pick.

I would like to hear what are some past trades that teams have done to move up 19 spots in the first round. I know it all goes by a point system but trading Jones and maybe another "B" player may get the deal done.

Jones is good but Peterson is that SPECIAL player like Emmitt and Dorsett.

and where did we get emmitt?

how many "he's special!" players went that high and never lived up to it? has adrian had ONE YEAR yet where he could play the whole year?

how many games did emmitt miss?

let's hold off on the hall of fame induction till he at least plays a game

I am not putting him in the HOF just yet and I am aware that some guys do turn out to be a big bust. But the guy is beyond a great talent and I think he will be lights out whereever he goes. So of course he will have to prove it but the draft is all about believing in certain players.

You can't be serious. There is noway of knowing how Peterson will do at NFL level to say he will be as good as all time rushing leader, it is a ridiculous notion.

To move up to #3 overall spot, we'll have to give up this year first round pick, JJ (if a team is willing to take him as a package), couple of mid round picks and possibly next year's first round pick. Noway will I'd want to include Canty as a part of trade package.

Our 1st round pick this year
J. Jones (lets say 3rd round value)
4th round pick this year
Next years 1st (value of 2nd rounder this year)

Thats my guess..maybe more than that??

I would agree it depends on how a team may view that player. In 1977 Tex Schramm traded one first-round, and three second-round draft choices for the right to draft Tony Dorsett in the first round. We took a risk and that risk is sitting in the HOF now.

Think Ricky Williams. We'd have to give a lot, i know that. The ONLY way it makes sense to get AP is if he fell into the 8-10 range and JJ was part of the deal. It would still be very costly, but i'm not against it. I too think he's gonna be special and 2-3 special players beats 6 or 7 Spears.

Wow! I didnt know it took three 2nd round picks to get Dorsett. Thats alot. I know that we will have to pay a heavy price but in this case I think I would take a chance and trade out first round pick next season plus jones and a maybe a third round pick for peterson.

It would be easier to move up to the #2 pick because it's the Lions and Matt Millen. We should be able to fleece them real easy. :D

i have no doubt Peterson will be a great PRO. The only concern like others have said is durability issues.
he has everything

Speed
Quickness
Moves
Power
Determination
Hard Worker
Vision

I he was healthy his whole college career he would be talked about as one of the greatest Running backs to come out of college in a LONG time.

Thats what I say. Some players are worth the sacrifice and I think he is one of them. Peterson is a player that can turn a game around and I think he is somebody that would be a solid player for years to come. He would solidify your offense and allow you to build a team around him. With a qb and running back in place plus a line sign for the next few years then you can plug replacements in through the draft and free agency.

I think you can sacrifice this years 1st round and next years 1st round to get a peterson for the next 10 years (barring injury). Galloway was a dumb two 1st rounders but peterson would be a smart one.

Have a look here: http://www.thewarpath.net/2005nfldraftvaluechart.htm

Every pick gets his own value interpreted by an amount of points. To move up to the desired pick you have to be able to provide the necessary amount of points through your picks you wish to trade.

I don't know if the values in this chart a fixed values or if they change from year to year. I saw some other charts that had the same values on it so it looks like they are fixed but like i mentioned i am not quite sure. EDIT: They have to change simply because there are not always the same amount of players entering the draft. But i guess there are some cornerstones that won't be changed for example #1 will always be 3k points

This is no official value chart. As i remember it this chart was made by a Head Coach or some staff simply to make life easier for them on draft day. But as much as i know it it has some guide value for most NFL teams.

Well his first injury was an ankle injury that just happens to players and the collarbone was a fluke injury after a touchdown. I just dont see how he gets that label. The same can be said (or was said) about jones until he played all season last year. He has never missed a game because of injury until he turned pro. But two straight seasons of fluke and "caught a bad break" type injuries and then he couldnt stay healthy.

His injuries are not hamstring or bad knees type injuries. Plus he was the complete and total offense for the Sooners his last two years. Can we say Earl Campbell? Actually he will probably do better here because he will only get it about 20 carries a game and not have to carry the load. I dont see his health as the issue

By the way what did the Seahawks get out of all that?
G Steve August, T Tom Lynch, LB Terry Beeson
and Dallas got TD

Peterson is the ultimate gamble, because he could be great or he could be Kijana Carter. That scares me away given what would have to be sacrificed to get up high enough to get him.
