Trading Austin

I dont care about his numbers, they wont be near what Dez's are. I just need him to be more reliable then he has been.

Instead of a big 3rd down grab its been the tip-interception that swings momentum

He had better numbers than Bryant this year.

Dez was a rookie coming off a suspension, who missed all of pre-season, who had his year end early. I would certainly hope so.

But from here on out Dez is the #1 and #2 target in the offense.

So if Austin is a number 3, than he is the best number three in the NFL, better than most number 2's and even better than some number 1's.

Sorry, I just don't see it.

With Romo, Austin will be the number one again next year and hopefully Dez will improve more.

Dez improving would be icing on the cake since hes already the best WR in the league.

And dont tell me he needs to digest the playbook more. DeSean Jackson is a doof and they find ways to get him the ball.

Dez already runs more routes than Jackson.

I have no doubt that Dez is more talented than Miles. I still don't see him surpassing Miles as the #1 target any time soon. Tony trusts Miles way too much.

Why would he trust Miles more?

Miles killed him w/ dropped passes this year, meanwhile Dez was an absolute monster even w/ the deck stacked against him

It's true. Dez was a beast with an ankle at 75%.

That is true. He still seems to trust him more though for whatever reason. Maybe that will be different next season.

Sarcasm?

Clearly we all understand he's not the best WR in the league yet lol.

What would it take, if you were the GM of the Dallas Cowboys, to take Miles Austin off of your hands?

at least a mid round first......but no one will pay that.

he is young. he has produced. he has the deep speed. he can be the #1.

Why in the world would anyone think about trading him now? He's going to be 26 next season, is a dang good WR, and coupled with Dez Bryant will make one of the most difficult to deal with duos for years to come.

It would take a whole fricken lot to take him away now.

oh boy.

People were calling the fan and saying to get rid of him yesterday.

I really have to wonder why people bother watching football if they are this ignorant.

its beyond silly to even consider this.

except he had no idea what he was doing and that cost us the saints game essentially.

He appears to be physically gifted beyond anyones imaginiation. The mental part of the game looked about as poor as it could get imo.

Hopefully by the middle of next season he will understand the offense and what he is supposed to be doing. If or when he does he will be a force.

as of right now he is just one of many talented athletes in the league.

Great question. Its the one real downside to football is the people who are fans who clearly haven't got a clue about football.

You have to take into account that a lot of the cowboys monster fanbase lives outside of Texas and thus doesn't even get to watch a lot of the games. I imagine that has to have something to do with a lot of the ignorance and stupidity.

I dont get it, why would you trade a play making WR in his prime, and yes I know he wasnt as good as he was last year. Another one of the "too much time on their hands threads" that pop up when people get bored.

Don't know why you guys take these threads so seriously. It's just something to discuss. What else we gonna do?

I wouldn't trade Austin for these reasons:
1) He's our best WR we have right now, all things considered.
2) We just gave him a new deal that is apparently front loaded and will be cap freindly going forward.
*That actually gives him much more trade value. Any team trading for him is getting his services for 2011 and beyond and a sweet cap #.
3) Too much uncertainty with the rest of our WRs. Williams? Ogeltree? Not so sure we have such a glut of talent at WR. Don't think I want these guys moving up the depth chart.

Before I give the flip side of this I have to say I'm surprised I'm seeing more posts from the "OL is everything crowd". Jerry's such an idiot for only drafting flash type players over the grunts.
Well here's your chance to suggest a trade to bolster that all critical OL.

Why we would at least entertain the notion of trading Austin:
1) He'd yield a lot in a trade. Perhaps a little more than his true value because.....
2) He has a great contract going forward.
3) As good as he is, he doesn't have great hands.
4) We do desparately need to upgrade a few other areas. OL and S and may not have the resources to get those areas up to par in one off season.

In all my time here, I'm surprised this topic has never been broached. Always wondered if the Texas fans somehow looked down on the out of town guys.

BTW Don't know the local of every member here, but would like to. I do believe that the local fans tend to be a little more negative than the rest. And my theory on this is the negative local Dallas media poisions them a little.

I can only compare it to the Phila media and I can assure you it's like night and day. Up here its a lot of pom pom waving homers.

Down there, I can't understand it. It's like you guys have a few too many non local media guys who must have grown up hating the Cowboys and the rest who are from the area hate on Jerry for being an outsider.
