The comparisons to a TB that played 3 decades ago is weird. The game has changed.
Again, name for me a 1st round TB that won a SB with the team that draft them in the last 20 years.
Hint. There isn't one. Why? Because the league (well most of them league) has figured out you can build a strong run game by investing in the OL and then largely bargain shopping for TBs instead of throwing first round picks at college kids.
This is a capped league and you have to find ways to limit investment to build a more complete roster. Throwing first round picks at TBs just doesn't seem very smart to me. I'd rather take an OL or DL, which are more valuable, and then come back with a RB in the later rounds.
I'm not gung-ho to draft a RB at #26 but depending on the other players available (not available) at that pick I'm open to drafting a RB.
I didn't hate the Zeke pick considering the other options; although my preferrence was OT Laremy Tunsil (preferrably after trading down).
- Jalen Ramsey had micro-fracture surgery in high school which combined with his questionable personality was a big concern to me.
I was one of the first at CZ (long before the year Zeke was drafted) to point out position value relative to the draft.
Having said that, the draft is about probability of success.
OG is not a top tier value position; however, Zack Martin was the closest draft prospect to a guaranteed success that I've seen. It was worth drafting him at #16.
In 2017 I said that if they were not going to draft TJ Watt, then they should just draft RB Dalvin Cook instead of Taco or other available players.
- Now Cook has been a Pro Bowl player consecutively for the past 4 seasons while Taco was worthless.
- They could have traded Zeke instead of giveing him the big contract or they could traded Cook a year or two later for close to the pick they would have used to get him.
- Note: Cook was the only remaining player with a 1st round grade on the Cowboys draft board.
