Travis Frederick update?

Eatman on one of the shows last week said that it's pretty apparent by watching Frederick move around that he's not returning to action any time soon. He didn't expound so I have no idea what he meant by that statement. But he is around the team and sees these guys up close...

I'd just hope that he is able to resume his normal life, and if that includes football at any point, great...

we must find his replacement and I think his name is Joe Looney. Hes done a good job. He and Martin have played the best up front. The others have stunk up the joint. Not worried about center...except for the fact Frederick is elite...so he will be missed. Looney is good though. Glad to have him. Fred might not ever play again.

Are people's emotions so fragile they have to play mind games with themselves to avoid disappointments?
Dude, it's 2018. Fragile emotions is the name of the game. Soon we won't even be able to say his and hers anymore because someone's fragile emotions might take offense. Is it really surprising that hordes of women are staring out the window lamenting as they remember what it used to be like to actually have a man around the house? (kiddin...............kinda).

I haven't seen this many medical experts on the forum since Jaylons knee.
Yep. Can't even count how many of those experts who said Jaylon would never play again and if he did he'd never even sniff the level of player he was coming out of college.

Whoopsy.

Wanna bet? He will not be back this year. It took Mark schelereth a year and a half to come back.

I looked this up because I was curious about Schlereth's situation, and it turns out Schlereth did not miss all the time people are saying. He was limited to 9 games in 1993 because of Guillain Barre Syndrome, but he played 16 games the very next season in 1994. Furthermore, he also played 16 games in 1995, 14 games in 1996, 11 games in 1997, 16 in 1998 and 16 in 1999.

We will be lucky if he is back to full strength for next season.

I remember reading a story about Schlereth in August and he actually played a few weeks with the condition before being diagnosed. He kept losing power, kept falling down, and really didn't understand why his arms and feet were going numb.

Frederick's condition was caught much earlier, so it's my hope he doesn't miss as much time. However, everybody is different.

I don't want to play internet doctor, I'm just repeating what I've read.

Quoted for serious truth!!!

Has anyone heard anything about him returning when he is eligible? Or any information at all on his recovery?

We won't hear anything until he is eligible to come of IR. It's 8 weeks from the time he was put on IR. They didn't move him to IR until about week 3 or 4. That would make him eligible to return around week 12.

Frederick has a radio show on 105.3 The Fan on Wednesdays. I would think he will keep everyone updated about any progress.

Of course, while Schlereth didn't actually take a year and a half to recover as some have claimed, he did have the last 7 games of 1993 and the offseason to recover before going into the 1994 season. The fact that he played full time in 1994 and full time for the next 5 years after that is pretty encouraging though. Obviously it doesn't mean Frederick's recovery will go as well, but with Frederick's illness supposedly caught earlier it gives us reason for hope. I suspect playing this year is likely not realistic though.

DAL chose to hold off IR'ing him to give him a chance of a late season return.
He's done some on field work but no real work and now he can't practice for a few more weeks.
He and TWill COULD return with 3 games left and starting practicing with 5 games left.

Wouldn't be shocking if either or both came back this year or if neither did.

You could activate them for depth and let them work in without starting them.

You may well want him in uniform for the morale boost late but like Schlereth if he plays he likely won't be anywhere near 100% right away.

He doesn't have to learn anything new so it's just regaining his physical strength. How that goes is anyone's guess but there's no reason to suspect it wont happen at some point.

I think HK is right about this. Mark S went through this. Looney is playing good, this FO has made mistakes by forcing players to come back early. I personally think its best to let it go this season. We re still out of it, thats not going to change. Let TF take care of business and see where hes at next season.

Looney has been average. He's about a 5 or a 6, Fredbeard is an 11.

I recently read that he was slowly improving. When they didn't put him on IR at the beginning of the regular season, I thought they must have had intel that led them to believe he could/would return within 6 weeks. Now, I would be utterly shocked if he returns at any point this season. They're probably better off giving him the entire year to recuperate, regardless.

Given Jerry's optimistic nature, putting Frederick on IR was a signal that it's next to impossible that he returns this year.

I'll have to find him saying it. He was on NFL network sharing his story and I remember him specifically saying a year and a half
