I was just asking your perspective you don't have to get nasty about it.
well, evidence. Lance. a top 3 pick, reserved often for elite players given its importance to any team. showed he is not elite. or essentially anything he did was not elite, nor did he show anything that he could be. after 2 seasons his team dumped him (after being demoted to 3rd string) and in dallas he couldn't take the job from Rush (yes, he joined late, but!). now he is in his 4th year...and people are saying he just needs a chance....if you are elite, you will show it. you will show flashes. the fact he hasn't says a lot. so again, my logic that he is at best a top 15 QB at best. which is mediocrity. Rush is mediocrity. there is plenty of that.

yet here, on this very board people keep criticizing Dak (rightfully so), and want better. yet people are clamouring on this very thread to replace one mediocre player they complain about with another mediocre player...so to what end? they complain about another mediocre player?

No...that isn;t what you are doing. You are trading KNOWN mediocrity for MAYBE mediocrity. Maybe better. You don't know at this point until he actually does it.

Sounds like you are desperately hoping it is...or worse. Waiting for the "told ya so" moment.
no, Lance isn't maybe mediocrity. he is mediocre. 3 years in, shown nada. zero. nothing.
what he represents to you and few others is hope. wishful thinking. long shot.

I know he is mediocre. all evidence about him to date says he is nothing but that. I don't have hope. I am not hoping for worse. he is what he is.

and if I am wrong. I will eat crow. 5 plateful at a time.

What's odd ??

Clearly Dak is in his last year with the boys .
Lance is the future .
The Jones boys want to embrace that .
Why talk to Dak in TC/PS when you no longer want his stench on your team .

Its pretty obvious whats going on .

The only ones having a hard time grasping is the DakDavidians
Trance does not exist. He is a figment of your imagination.

Dak already knows Trey Lance is far more likely to take a #2 backup spot this year than to take over his spot. So much so that he's doing all he can to make it easier for him to compete for that position. I'm confident that Lance is well aware of that himself and appreciates what Dak is doing to help his cause. I'll venture a guess that it's pretty likely that he's been advised of that behind the scenes, at some point this year.

Dak is being a professional. Stop reading into it more than what it is. We all know since Trance is being paid more than Rush, he will most likely be QB2 by default.

Same reason Darnold had taken QB2 immediately away from Trance when he was signed in SF for a $4.5M deal.

The Niners were man enough to admit they made a mistake, cut their losses and punted. I seriously doubt, GM Jethro's ego will allow him to do the same.

I'm thinking the relationship between the 2 QBs will begin to change a bit during TC
I can't wait.
Especially as Dak's contract continues to go nowhere. :starspin:

Trey talks about QB2 battle, and how he has learned over the past year. And how things are different between Dallas and SF.

"Lance has grown close with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and other players on the team as he gets settled into Dallas and settled into a shot at rewriting what his underperforming career has been to this point. With just two months sitting between now and Lance taking the field at training camp to begin that rewrite, he feels he's at the best he's been in his NFL career."

Sounds like Dak is taking him under his wings. This is what I am looking forward to the most in TC and the PS games.
The problem is neither QB has a contract for 2025 and you can bet only one of them will be kept. All Trey can do is have a great preseason and be ready if an opportunity arises during the regular season.

Oooo...yer gonna "eat crow" eh? Sure.

You know very little about Trey Lance. None of us know much.

It's hard to say if this kid is starting material but Shanahan did him no favors. He destroyed his confidence. Just MM saying how he has adjusted the throwing motions tells you all you need to know how much the 49ers fail this kid.
The thing is Mike may have made an adjustment in his throwing motion but any of us who have grown up playing sports at a high level know it takes thousands of repetitions to change a motion so it becomes consistent. But it is also a weak link that will break down and resort to it's original motion under pressure. This is the problem with Dak. Not a natural passer and looks like he muscles the ball. Everything about his game breaks down under pressure.

Trance needs all the help he can get and Dak is feeling zero pressure from him. Dak has thrown and completed more passes in his sleep than Trance has attempted in his sleep his entire life.

Weird. He was 10/15 with 1 TD in his second to last preseason game against Las Vegas. I saw his Las Vegas game on the YouTube and the offensive line was a sieve. Many times they were in the backfield before he could get through his first progression. In his last preseason game against the Broncos, there's a video of someone saying he looked poised. I watched that video and he looked far from "horrible". Of course, there were plays he didn't look good because the defense will make plays and he's also primarily playing with second and third stringers. I watched both of these games a while ago.

So again, it appears that "holy crap was he bad" is just your opinion.

Also, like I said, if the 49ers found their young QB who they think can be the long term starter and franchise QB, they're not going to spend time developing another guy anymore despite how much they traded for him, considering how green he was. That is a judgement call, and that is why Sam Darnold was brought in and also why he no longer is on the 49ers. He was there just to serve as an experienced backup for Purdy. And that rendered Trey to 3rd string where he didn't want to be and that's why he requested to be traded.
well, its obvious that the Niners and 30 other teams had an opinion much similar to mine than yours

I wonder how many of our players on the team would say they are not playing at their best heading into a new season?
That is not the point. But to one that is always negative about this, it means nothing in you saying this.

Lance wasn’t bad in his 4 starts.

800 yards, 5 TDs, 3 INTs with an 85 QBR.

Also, what I’m most excited about in Lance is his rushing ability. He’s averaging 30 rushing yards per game, but that’s skewed and would be much higher if not for him getting injured very early into his 4th game.

If you only average his 3 full games started where he played the majority of the game he’s giving you 60 rushing yards per game.

Daks never come in the same universe as that and he was considered a dual threat QB.

Thats 1,020 rushing yards over 17 games for Lance. Thats first amount QBs by 200 yards and 9th among RBs last season. He would been our leading rusher.

How can you not be at least somewhat excited for Lance to get a chance?

so you are looking for mediocrity?
that's all we can hope for with the current dude. so why not do that with a cheaper dude and get the same results. You can pay the QB 55 mil a year and not make the NFC championship game or we can pay the other dude 20 mil a year and not make the NFC Championship game.. but there is a chance,, maybe a very very very slight chance that the cheaper guy could take us further. We know for certain with the current guy, the chance to make it pass the divisional round is 0.0%, so anything is an improvement.
