Does anyone here know Lance’s background? Anyone? Guy played very little QB before being drafted 3rd. He was always going to be a project. The idiot Niners threw him to the wolves.

Exactly but Lance needs to play. I don’t think it was a smart trade. To bad football does not have a minor league system.

I would not trade a 4 from what I’ve seen of his NFL career . Maybe a 6 take it or leave it .

baltcowboy thinks Trey Lance needs to be named the starter.

He makes a good point about how it would eliminate Prescott.
I am looking forward to how Dak reacts to Lance being here. He can’t be happy.

If you inserted Lance at quarterback now and go like 10-7 to get him some experience, would the Cowboys be better off in the long run then giving Dak an extension? You answer the question. Jerry will have to piss Dak off if he wants to see what Lance can do. Sitting on the bench is not going to help Lance or the Cowboys.
You wouldn't go 10-7 if you inserted Lance

McCarthy has a better track record of developing quarterbacks than does shanahan(sp?) but shanahan has the better offensive system.

So hopefully dallas gets a qb they can flip or a top 5 (in his draft talent) to usurp the medicore (lol) qb we have meow.

Win win for the boys if it works out even if just to be a back up.

This is why you don't count on a high draft pick for a QB, when you already have a top 10 starter.
They tried to improve on Jimmy G and got worse. That’s what can happen when you already have a good QB and you try to get better. You don’t make a bold move like San Francisco did for a QB unless you have trash at the position. Trading the farm for Lance never made any sense. It couldn’t have blown up in their face anymore than it did.

How do you know that? We went 4-1 with Cooper Rush.
No one can know with real certainty how things shake out. I dont even know for certain of they wouldn't go 10-7 with me as QB. For all I know I could be great.

What I do know for certain based on watching both players play is that Cooper Rush is a much better QB than Lance

In my eyes, Trey is no longer a 1st round draft pick and he's certainly no present threat to Dak's job security. This was about QB roster depth and being able to take advantage of the new 3rd QB on game day rule. Will Grier wasn't going to be that guy. This will motivate Cooper Rush to be a better QB. I like that Trey gets to reset his NFL career and potentially reach his very high ceiling in a few years. I believe the coaching staff will be great for Trey.

He needs a lot of time to learn how to play QB and to build confidence. The physical tools are for sure there though.
Can’t say enough how much the ankle injury set him back. A horrific injury like that in the beginning of year 2 for a developmental QB is a tough thing to overcome, essentially set him back for a calendar year straight. Both playing time wise and learning on the practice field.

Hopefully he comes to Dallas humbled and determined to work hard to flip the narrative of his career. His work ethic is probably the biggest key to his success because he clearly has a long way to go.

The film shows Lance has a good arm and he is athletic. The problem is he has limited reps as a quarterback over the years. The kid has thrown 400 passes since he was in college. Lance’s problem as a Cowboy is Dak rarely gives up reps in practice. I don’t see how he will get enough work in the offseason either. Lance needs to play. I think the Cowboys will at least develop a goal line package for him. The kid basically will be in the same situation in Dallas then he was in San Francisco.
Dak is not going to give up any goal line plays, especially since Dak is pretty good at them. No way. This Lance kid is going to be sitting on the bench most, if not all, of the time. I can see him getting any playtime once the Cowboys have a 3 score lead late in a game. Even then, Lance would have to be good enough to play over Cooper Rush. Good luck with that.

A reminder for members who may not read it in (every time) in the gameday thread:

Threads created during the game will be automatically deleted.

There are plenty of non-threads to post Dak Prescott-related comments. Dak Prescott comments in the gameday thread will be deleted. That may also hold true for Trey Lance comments.

Yeah this year at least you are right. The kid is getting paid less than Rush. Next season could be a different story.

Wow, after watching this video......

WTH were the Cowboys thinking using a 4th round pick and especially trading for this Trey Lance? There are so many flaws to his game, especially that sidearm, elbow hitched terrible throwing motion of his. Yuck! His horrible throwing motion is going to keep limiting his throws while making it so hard to hit his targets. Also, he is bad at reading defenses, has a tendency to stay stuck looking at just one receiver, freezes to let it rip when receivers have space enough to be considered open (Lance needs receivers wide open many times), yet even then, his sidearm throwing motion is hurting him while causing his throws to sail and be unable to arc fall into their intended target in traffic. He is indecisive, makes some terrible reads and decisions, plus seriously needs to redo his throwing motion while also needing lots and lots of work both in the film room and on the field. I honestly despise this trade even more after watching this tape since it's obvious Lance has many problems to fix, and I don't see how the Cowboys will have time to help fix them while they are busy getting ready to start their 2023 season while having to dedicate their time to their starter in Dak and backup in Cooper Rush.

You could take out Lance's name there and insert Dak tbh.
