Not to sound like a Lance apologist but how much of this can be attributed to rust and simply not getting reps?

I still like this trade because the potential return is so much greater than the investment. And no matter how people want to spin it, this has zero to do with Dak.

Reading defenses poorly, Stuck on one WR, costly turnovers, needs all pro WR's to be successful, and needs them to be wide open. Sounds like Dak to me tbh.
Provide video evidence. Stop with the lies. Dak has greatly improved his throwing mechanics and passing game the past 5 seasons, and the film and stats prove it. You simply don't like him.

Its clear he has regressed since the ankle injury. 15 INT in 12 games played. Just to add, this season will be very telling. He has the help, OC change, there are no more excuses left.

The film shows Lance has a good arm and he is athletic. The problem is he has limited reps as a quarterback over the years. The kid has thrown 400 passes since he was in college. Lance’s problem as a Cowboy is Dak rarely gives up reps in practice. I don’t see how he will get enough work in the offseason either. Lance needs to play. I think the Cowboys will at least develop a goal line package for him. The kid basically will be in the same situation in Dallas then he was in San Francisco.
His lack of experience is why you make the trade and bet on his traits. He’s all upside that you have to trust your coaches to develop. Do we have those kinda guys on staff now? I don’t know, but on paper, the trade makes sense. A 4th rounder is precisely where you take a stab at a developmental QB.

Very odd that he had a much lower QBR in 2018 than 2017. His 2017 was borderline bad

We were going to spend a 4th or 5th on a QB in the draft this year but Raiders took the guy a rd early. So now we are using a 4th rd pick, which we will get back, on a QB that has actually played. He may not be any good but he won't be asked to do much this year, hopefully. If we had a 4th preseason game it wouldve been great to see him play though.

Look at Jordan Love with the Packers. Kid was super green, if he would have been thrown to the fire right away it would have been a disaster. Not all QBs are created equal. Some need time to develop.

This is a perfect situation for him to sit back develop and who knows.
You might be referring to Dak here. I thought Dak did great being Star trek transported into starting QB.

However...let's take pause here...not every starting rookie QB gets a team like that (2016). Most high round, sought after pedigreed NCAA QB's go to a crappy team via first couple rounds given to the worst teams.

Would be great if this kid's reset produces our next starting QB!

Maybe a season or two off...might be better for him...than jumping right back into the fire. He's still gonna be working out.

Hoefully.....MM uses good sense and takes Dak out of the blowouts.

Another thing fans seem to not understand is that Lance is what you want in a practice quarterback. He has a strong arm and is athletic. In practice Lance can be the best practice dummy in the league against our defense. No more pop gun arms and slow scrambles like Rush and company.

Well, if the Cowboys follow their script these pasf two preseasons, Lance at least will split game time with Rush come the summer of '24.

That was a really, really good breakdown. I can see why they traded him.

Still...round 4? I'm ok with that. I'm reminded that this kid just turned 23 in May and really hasn't played. I think you park him at QB3 and go back to the basics with him. Give him mop-up duty when and where you can. If you can clean this mess up in a couple or three years, you've got a QB with enormous potential. If not, you're out a 4th round pick.

So far, he's a shinning example of why you don't just ditch your functional QB and go draft someone else.

I'm a fan of drafting a QB somewhere between rounds 4 and 6 every couple of years or so. And if you ever land naturally in the top 5, then see if there's a guy. Trading away the farm to move into the top 5 seems insane to me.

Film proves only an idiot would trade up for a guy with suspect accuracy. Spare me the athletic junk, he ain't no rg3 or Lamar either. Dude is barely qb3 material and that might be all he ever is. If the cowboys are lucky and they have been, he might make qb2 next year.
Josh Allen had accuracy issues coming out of school too.

Let this guy get better at identifying defenses and a little bit of confidence and see if his accuracy doesn’t improve drastically.

The interceptions in 2022 were an outlier. It's been rehashed here and on multiple national media sites exactly how many of those interceptions were truly on Dak. Looking at the film is kind of subjective since we don't know the play calls and we have to simply guess if the receiver ran the right route. But even the high end numbers put no more than 9 of these picks on Dak, and some say as few as six were his fault.

Look around the NFL and this number compares favorably to the number of picks thrown by other quarterbacks across the latter part of 2022. Patrick Mahomes threw 11 picks in the last 12 games. Josh Allen threw 11 in his final 12 while also leading the NFL in redzone turnovers. And while we're at it, Aaron Rodgers threw nine picks in his last ten games.

I know there is a major anti-Dak agenda here, but it's progressed to the point he's painted as the only quarterback in the NFL that turns the ball over. False narratives don't support anything.

Apples and oranges. They weren't even close as prospects go. SF fell in love with treys athletic ability despite little evidence he had anything else to offer. Not everyone was high on Allen as buffalo but most agree he had some talent. Trey has to get better just to make this team as the primary backup next year. Waste of a pick for a guy who might earn a backup role next year.

He needs reps.

These problems are correctable. He’s 23….
Agree. He isn't seeing the field. Stuff is open, but he can't see it yet. Seeing ghosts as they say. Experience means a lot. The Jets second year QB sucked last year. I'll bet after he sets behind Rogers for a year or two he will be much much better. You just gotta see it.
