I think the fans are the only ones wanting to see him in live game action. The coaches not so n much.

It would be presumptuous to have Trey active, just for the purpose of a possible blowout. I would love to see him play. But very doubtful this happens.

Any chance he is made active and not just the 3rd emergency QB vs NYG? My thinking is if we get far ahead we get some actual game action from him.
Zero chance...

The only way you might see lance on the field this year is either there's injuries to Dak and Rush or it's week seventeen with the conference, division or playoff seed secured in a nothing game.

They can’t afford to overlook any team. This season has been crazy. Absolutely no chance he is moved to #2 unless Rush is injured. Fans can look ahead at the schedule or take a team lightly. They will get beat if they do that.

If Dallas had beaten Arizona, I could sorta kinda see it. But I don't think, from here on out, they'll be taking any opponent for granted and making active/inactive decisions based on what might happen if it's a Cowboys blowout.

I think we know what the problem with that would be, right? For example, if Dallas is up 35-3 going into the 4th, what do you expect the Cowboys to do? They're just going to run the ball, and the clock out.

They could still let him run some of the offense. That said, we aren't gonna see him anyway. Its a cool idea though.

I'm not a betting man, but if you had to force me to bet, I would bet that the odds of Trey Lance taking a snap as a Cowboy with a healthy Dak and Rush is virtually 0.

Not saying there is absolutely impossible, but I think the only way it happens with a healthy Dak and Rush is if Dallas wraps up HFA with 2+ games left to play and they sit Dak.

And quite frankly, I don't sit Dak out whole games if I'm the HC. Seen too many players come back from taking games off and play poorly to let them sit out entire games.

Even with the second scenario ---
nothing to play for in week seventeen (or week eighteen = season finale) - either Prescott or Rush would have to made inactive in order for Lance the opportunity to come in and play.

My WAG here is that Lance is on a redshirt season.
They want his athleticism to simulate QBs in practice and to give him a breather to set himself.
They haven't extended him yet so likely prefer to NOT have a more game film that out that boosts his stock league-wide.

"Sitting" = made inactive for the game.

If there is a NEXT MAN UP it should be RUSH! Try to keep him sharp in the case that Prescot get's hurt or implodes.

These next 3 games we are winning big, it's the best time if they want to give him some playing time. I honestly don't care if he does play, he's a bust, if you can't look good in the 49ers offense and get beat out by Sam Darnold then that says a lot.
Page is bookmarked. Will review in three weeks. :)

Only way I’m making a switch to Lance is if we need him for rest of season or a long stretch.

If it’s just spot duty you gotta stick with Rush.

Also, Josh Dobbs got traded and within a week went off for the Vikings with almost no practice reps so Lance is more then ready to play if you need him.

If you read their forums.....the concensus from their fan base is that he isn't a bust and actually out performed darnold in camp, contrary to the way the media portrayed him. The reason he was traded was that he fell out of favor with some coaches. Apparently he was a lynch pick and not a Shanahan guy.

Well, that’s what a smart team would do and use the opportunity to build the players confidence and perhaps market value. But, this is the Dallas Cowboys. So Dak will play the full game and pad his stats.

They absolutely should either activate him or make him the backup because this would be a great chance to get him some real time reps.

Don't expect to see him on the field until the 2024 preseason.

The reason Lance was traded is that he requested it.
The day the coaching staff informed him of his ranking amongst the other QBs on the team, he came back a few hours later and requested out, so he could get a fresh start somewhere else.
