I reviewed all of Trey Williams' carries from the preseason.

While listed as similar size to Dunbar, Williams looks thicker.

His rushing looked good. He has very nice ability to jump cut and move laterally in an instant and accelerate. He generally managed to get a couple of yards even when the line was stacked up. He seemed like a better rusher than Dunbar with a decent feel for finding the open spots.

He appears to be a good pass catcher and can turn and run quickly much like Dunbar; although, I don't think he had quite the acceleration of Dunbar.

He was very good in pass blocking. Dunbar was good in pass blocking also but it took Dunbar some time to develop in that area and this kid is already at the same level as Dunbar was this season. Not only did he physically block well but he seemed to find the right defender to block.

I thought he looked a little thicker than he did in college but maybe not quite as explosive.

If he returned any kicks I didn't see them. NFL.com does not list him as having any returns in the preseason. He looked really good returning Kicks in college.

Overall I like him quite a bit. Very much like Dunbar but maybe more of an option as a rusher instead of just a receiver/pass-blocker.

I would not be surprised if he get more snaps than C-Mike soon.

Hopefully he is smart, sane and humble which seems to be a problem with Randle and C-Mike.

Thanks xwalker, your review of this player is appreciated. I hope to see this guy on the field being as productive as Dunbar was being before being injured. I love to hear stories about guys who grew up Cowboys fans and see their dreams come true.

How'd he look in space? I keep reading about his 'wiggle' and ability to make people miss.

I gather his routes were solid, but unspectacular. That's where Dunbar really stood out in the passing game, anyway.

Good to hear the little guy can pass block, though.

It's beyond "wiggle", the guy has insane lateral movement and can cut without losing speed. I'm still trying to figure out why he wasn't drafted or how he was still on a practice squad at this point.

It's the preseason. It's difficult to discern much info about the details of his route running in limited opportunities. Maybe that was a college criticism but I don't remember Dunbar being a great route runner on day one.

Nobody on the zone knew Dunbar was as good as the coaches advertised until we saw him used regularly. I certainly had my doubts about him.

Some check down passes to him wouldn't hurt. Seems like Dunbar with a touch more of physicality.

To me Dunbar is more of a flex HB/WR right now. I think if Dunbar returns there could be room on the roster for both him amd Williams assuming Williams plays and well

Similar, but not the same

I'm not going to say I knew how good he would be, but I argued many times this off-season that Dunbar would be a significant contributor if he could stay healthy. My arguments were in response to many posts calling for the Cowboys to cut him.

Yes, they are not exactly the same; although, if Williams is successful, they paid Dunbar 1.5M this season as an RFA and he an unrestricted free agent after the season. Williams is obviously a minimum wage rookie.

Between all of these smallish quick guys, it would be nice if one was a legit Punt Returner.

To be fair, most people were saying to cut him because the coaches weren't using him. It wasn't like people were saying cut him because he sucked.
