It's the preseason. It's difficult to discern much info about the details of his route running in limited opportunities. Maybe that was a college criticism but I don't remember Dunbar being a great route runner on day one.

If he is willing he can learn to run routes just as Dunbar did. Most rb's don't come out with much route running ability since they ran so few real routes in college
Good work X on the evaluation

Well the bigger questions is can he outrun the store security and can he beat his wife, oh wait we already had those., I hope you guys still have your sense of humor.I have learned to live with loosing.I recommend a vacation for all of you.I went to Vegas and saw Elton John, ate crablegs , drank like a fish and let the Cowboys go for awhile.

I've heard they are waiving the 5 years after retirement waiting period for C-Mike to enter the HOF immediately.

I can imagine him stepping to the mike, uttering one word, beating his chest while staring down the other Hall of Famers then walking off the stage never to be seen again. ;)

All I know is that there are a lot of Skin fans that are upset to lose him, and doubly mad that it is to the Cowboys. They were all counting on him being a bog part of their team next year.

Are you trying to say the Commanders had a better back on their practice squad than one of our beloved three headed monster or is that a copy and paste error?

he has a little barry sanders in him. his lateral movement is elite. it's on the OC to get him out in space. he's a tough runner but running him up the middle wouldn't be using him right imo.

But the good news there is the OC designed plays specifically for Dunbar, so in a week or two Williams should know those plays when he gets playing time.

I'm not going to say I knew how good he would be, but I argued many times this off-season that Dunbar would be a significant contributor if he could stay healthy. My arguments were in response to many posts calling for the Cowboys to cut him.

We had no data to form a real opinion of Dunbar's talent other than the vague praises from coaches and games where he was never used unless he was the last resort. This team is slow to use talent and that seems to come from the Jones side of management. It predates Philips and Garrett so that is where I will place the blame for letting it perpetuate. I am more about figuring out quickly if the talent is worth the time and effort and if not move on or as some say cut bait.
My favorite scenario for Williams/Michaels/ is play them and either cut them or cultivate. If Cmike is taking this long to learn the RB system we have a problem that should take on another life of its own in the zone.

I reviewed all of Trey Williams' carries from the preseason.

While listed as similar size to Dunbar, Williams looks thicker.

His rushing looked good. He has very nice ability to jump cut and move laterally in an instant and accelerate. He generally managed to get a couple of yards even when the line was stacked up. He seemed like a better rusher than Dunbar with a decent feel for finding the open spots.

He appears to be a good pass catcher and can turn and run quickly much like Dunbar; although, I don't think he had quite the acceleration of Dunbar.

He was very good in pass blocking. Dunbar was good in pass blocking also but it took Dunbar some time to develop in that area and this kid is already at the same level as Dunbar was this season. Not only did he physically block well but he seemed to find the right defender to block.

I thought he looked a little thicker than he did in college but maybe not quite as explosive.

If he returned any kicks I didn't see them. NFL.com does not list him as having any returns in the preseason. He looked really good returning Kicks in college.

Overall I like him quite a bit. Very much like Dunbar but maybe more of an option as a rusher instead of just a receiver/pass-blocker.

I would not be surprised if he get more snaps than C-Mike soon.

Hopefully he is smart, sane and humble which seems to be a problem with Randle and C-Mike.

I will have to go back and look again, but if his pass blocking looked good to you, I am a little shocked. If I was to point out one red flag for a guy suited to be a third down back, it would be his atrocious blitz pickup and pass blocking. He gets absolutely run over when expected to sustain a block. He has some success at faking the block and delaying into the flat, but this kid will get your QB killed if you expect him to hold an NFL LB for any matter of time.

He does have great lateral movement and one of the best jump cuts you will ever see, however he will also run to contact or run for the sideline quite often. He is another guy that doesn't seem to have a full control of his own gears. He wants to go 100 miles an hour all the time and it will get him into trouble. As par with guys who come from spread attacks, he is not great following blockers, but is more adept at running around or behind them, not waiting on them. He can be absolutely deadly as a swing back matched up with a linebacker in the flat. It takes him no time at all to reach top speed and a single person generally won't get a clean enough shot to take him down. That said, however, if he doesn't have the wiggle room, he is prone to going down quite easily and almost seems to just fall down at times. If you were furious with Randle being "arm tackled" this kid will break your heart.

Ironically enough, if I was going to compare this kid to anyone in the NFL off of the small NFL sample and college footage I saw, it would be Randle. If they trust this kid enough to motion him out wide, he is capable of housing it every time he touches it.

I absolutely guarantee you, this is a Linehan signing. He spent a lot of time inputting those schemes and plays for Dunbar (I say schemes because if you go back and watch, the blocking is different for many of the plays they ran to Dunbar). He wants someone who he can utilize in the same role. This could also mean Michael doesn't get much more run.

Were you talking about Randle?

Oh, my bad. I thought you said beating his girl and leaving Valley Ranch never to be seen again...

He was used so sparingly from the get-go that it was virtually impossible to tell. It didn't really become obvious until lately when they increased his reps.

He has some incredible change of direction. It's fun to watch.

I think he's actually more talented than Dunbar in the field. Not sure how his pass protection is, or how well he can routes, but if you're looking for a safety valve that might make somebody miss, he's a solid pickup.

Interested to see if they give him opportunities behind this line. I'd be very interested to see what a guy like that can do when Romo comes back and opponents have to play the whole field.

Was Williams on the 53 to start the season with Washington? If Dunbar was so integral to our offense before he went down, I don't get why Williams wasn't signed sooner. I get that the release of Randle facilitates this signing, but wouldn't it have made more sense to have picked him up when Rod Smith was signed?

Returned kicks for 3 years in college. Tremendous jump cut & make-you-miss ability. Seems decent as a receiver...but not sure if he can run routes like Dunbar at this time?

Former Aggie teammate/former Cowboys RB Ben Malena, called Williams the most physically gifted back he's ever been around.
