I reviewed all of Trey Williams' carries from the preseason.
While listed as similar size to Dunbar, Williams looks thicker.
His rushing looked good. He has very nice ability to jump cut and move laterally in an instant and accelerate. He generally managed to get a couple of yards even when the line was stacked up. He seemed like a better rusher than Dunbar with a decent feel for finding the open spots.
He appears to be a good pass catcher and can turn and run quickly much like Dunbar; although, I don't think he had quite the acceleration of Dunbar.
He was very good in pass blocking. Dunbar was good in pass blocking also but it took Dunbar some time to develop in that area and this kid is already at the same level as Dunbar was this season. Not only did he physically block well but he seemed to find the right defender to block.
I thought he looked a little thicker than he did in college but maybe not quite as explosive.
If he returned any kicks I didn't see them. NFL.com does not list him as having any returns in the preseason. He looked really good returning Kicks in college.
Overall I like him quite a bit. Very much like Dunbar but maybe more of an option as a rusher instead of just a receiver/pass-blocker.
I would not be surprised if he get more snaps than C-Mike soon.
Hopefully he is smart, sane and humble which seems to be a problem with Randle and C-Mike.
I hope this pans out.
Me..
I have thought Dunbar to date to have been a mirage'
More of guy who was always rumored to be a guy on the verge.
He had a few good plays this year but the problem for him was his inability to take the hits because of his size.
And to me he always telegraphed the play coming into the game for the defense.
Hopefully this new guy has more versatility to actually run.
