Troy Aikman: Age isn't an excuse for Ezekiel Elliott actions

The fact that even Zeke's parents are concerned about his behavior possibly being a problem speaks volumes.

Granted, most of what he does may not be things that constitute a threat to society -- they're just not advisable.

Most parents are concerned about their child's behavior.

My parents were concerned about my behavior when I wasn't calling them once a day when I was away at college. They were concerned about my behavior when I overslept to caddie in a golf tournament after working until 2am the morning before. They flipped out when when I was caught speeding after my digital speedometer broke right in the middle of me driving. And when I was caught skipping school during senior skip day, you would've thought I was on a one way ticket to federal prison.

My 'concern' for EE is that apparently he’s lived a pretty sheltered lifestyle growing up, all the way through college. My guess is that his parents were overly protective of him getting involved with the ‘wrong crowd.’ While that is good and all, it’s pretty easy to spot somebody from the ‘wrong crowd’ and avoid them. And what I see out of parents like EE’s is that they don’t teach their child how that people have to actually earn your trust regardless of what they look like or where they are from.

There’s plenty of users, con men and con women that look like good people and come from good backgrounds.

As far as Troy goes, he loves to knock the Cowboys. He doesn’t like Jerry because he doesn’t understand how Jerry could have let Jimmy go and how Jerry could have signed Barry Switzer to take over all during the prime of Troy’s career. He also doesn’t want to be seen as a homer, so he thinks that by knocking the Cowboys and claiming a bad call against the Cowboys was a ‘good call’ and a questionable call for the Cowboys was a ‘terrible call.’

When I’m asked about EE’s ‘behavior’, I really have to ask ‘what behavior?’ Speeding 30 mph over the speed limit? Pulling down ½ of a blouse of a female friend during a St. Paddy’s Day parade for a nanosecond and the friend didn’t bother to care to say a word about it? Those are things that myself and others have done at that age. But as we mature, we start to learn the foolishness in our ways.

And hopefully that will happen with EE. Furthermore, I can hope that he starts to let people earn his trust if they want to be in his inner circle.

Just like I hope Troy can someday let it go between him and Jerry and realize that non-Cowboys fans will always hate him. Of course, I could catch polio and get struck by lightning in the same day as well.

I like the guy myself. I think he has to start using his head off the field. As for what is taking place on the field he puts in the work and time, it shows up on game day. For his sake and the sake of the 52 other players on the team I just hope he cleans his act up. When you screw up you not only hurt yourself you hurt the other players who count on you.

I don't like him, but I agree that he puts in the work when it's time to work.

I'm not tremendously concerned about him, to be clear. Of all the stuff he's done, other than pulling up the girl's top, it appears to be mostly harmless stuff. I just am not a fan of the 'look at me' stuff from pretty much any of the players in the league. But Zeke is 100% a football player. He's got a good football mindset, and I think his style of play energizes the whole offense.

To be honest, I was never a big fan of Emmitt's personality, either, though. Maybe it's just me and Dallas Cowboys running backs.

Okay, what exactly has Zeke done? He had one incident of lifting up a girls top (which, apparently, she consented to)

What else? What am I supposed to be getting on Zeke's case about?

His on the field stuff does not bother me in the least. I will say the kettle jump cost the Cowboys 15 yards so don't do that. As for the feed me, it seems to keep him motivated in the game, it gets under the skins of the opposition and his own teammates feed off of it. Swagger I can deal with. His off the field really is a bunch of small things that can add up and hurt him, that is something I do not want to see for Zeke.

Agree. And when you add it all up...it's not a pretty picture.

Multiple car accidents, domestic violence case that has enough merit that it's warranted longterm investigation, pulling girl's top down, busted driving 100 mph in urban Dallas, the incident with the guy getting decked.

Maybe some of these are overblown, but comments of insiders suggest the guy has issues.

besides the DV sounds like me from 18-22 settled down some when I got a clearance.

For me it is not about getting on his case it is more of a concern of behavior that is risky. Aikman in my view is not slamming Zeke as much as he is warning Zeke. Same thing was taking place with Dez yet now we hear little about any off the field incidents involving Dez.

I forgot about the time when I was going 15 mph over the speed limit about a mile from home because I had to go to the bathroom. My parents saw it and thought I was reckless because I could have driven over black ice...in October.

Ok so let's look at a sample size of, say, all of time. When has someone not acted more responsible when they are 30 versus when they are 21? Punish him when his action merit it, and he'll learn from it. But how is it we are still stuck talking about this?

I hope you don't have any children, if you can't even see the light.

When your kids are bad you don't sit there and talk to them for a month about how bad they are. You explain to them why their actions are not acceptable and take steps to make sure they are better in the future.

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time, I have nothing to "warn" him about. If anything, we should all be looking at what the hell the media is doing jumping the gun on stories lately.

And he is stating Zeke's "actions" - again, I'm not entirely sure what Zeke has done. The only incident that you MIGHT be able to criticize Zeke for is the parade incident. Outside of that, we have the incident with the girl where it turns out she's a nut, and an incident at a party with assault the police never even linked Zeke to despite what the media said.

All of this has been completely overblown, and we can link it back to a year ago when a crazy girl came forward. Because of that, the media slapped Zeke with the "Bad boy" label, like they did with Dez, and he's a target.
