Troy Aikman: 'I really believe [the Cowboys] have something' with QB Dak Prescott

Gap between White and Aikman, that one whole year? :omg:

Thankfully, Dallas has had a good history on QB's except from Troy to Tony :)

While White was on the squads, his play diminished tremendously from 1985-1988. Which is why Hogeboom, Collier, Pelluer were the inbetween QB's from White's heyday to Aikman.

Always scares me when Troy is high on a player I keep thinking back to how he gushed over WR Stepfret Williams and David Lafleur. He told the Cowboys after working out with Lafleur that he thought he had more upside than Tony Gonzalez.

Not to mention that he was a big Chad Hutchinson fan.

I'm of the opinion that Troy is (or at least used to be) incredibly harsh towards Cowboys' QBs. Just seemed like when he would commentate on Cowboys games he was particularly thorough in his scrutinizing of Dallas QBs. Not that he was wrong, but it was a bit much at times. I always kind of thought it was a, "look at this kid doing a disservice to the job I once had", type of attitude. Or maybe he was more emotionally attached to the team and to this particular position at that period of time.

That said, him giving positive reviews of Dak is noteworthy for me. Maybe Troy is less emotionally attached at this point in time so it means nothing, but I think Troy's opinion is worth something.

I don't remember him saying anything about Williams… But I do remember that he really liked Lafluer. DL probably would have been good too had his back not quit on him at 22 years old.

On quarterbacks though, I would trust Troy all day long and he is exactly right about it being between The ears that matters the most.

Wasn't it Aikman{or was it JJ} that said "we got our next Jay Novacek" after they drafted Lafluer?

He was real high on Williams during training camp, really liked what he saw only to watch Williams go bust. Troy much like Roger Staubach has always had good things to say about our QBs. This isn't to say Dak isn't going to turn out but Troy has always had good things to say about our QBs including Quincy Carter.

I think they have something isnt saying much.
Right now no one has anything bad to say about dak.

Good post but nobody will comment because it's anti Romo homer (can I say this I'm new?). I loved what he said - spot on.
There wasn't anything anti-Romo at all there.

It is actually possible to be pro-Dak AND pro-Romo.
What are you talking about specifically?

Aikman is also the same guy who said people are crazy if they think Romo isn't far better than Dak...as he should be. He said he likes Dak but the young man has a very long ways to go to get to Rono's level.
That's not an insult at all, btw.

Go get 'em, Dak!

I don't think it's rocket science to figure that a guy who has all the physical tools, never lets the game get too big for him, and works harder than just about anyone might actually have a future in this league.

Not sure what else you could want. Sure, his mechanics need some tweaking, but that's why he was supposed to sit for a couple years. I think he'll be a good QB.

I wonder if the same people who scoff at Troy when he said Romo is a better quarterback than he ever was will turn around and view his message about Dak as gospel.

I suspect they might.

Don't put much stock in Troy's comment but I think overall Tony might be a little better. But I donto feel strongly about it.

I agree, I wouldn't call it harsh, but Aikman definitely goes out of his way to be "objective", which means he is overly critical as a way to prove he is "objective". I put objective in quotes because I think its a myth, everywhere and not just in sports.

I agree in general, Aikman isn't going to go out of his way to puff up a rookie QB playing for Dallas. When he makes these comments, he clearly means it.

I think any fan should be impressed with Dak so far. We didn't get the results we wanted but Dak played a solid game and for his first nfl game he was very poised. The game isn't too big for him. That's said he still has a ton to learn and he appears to be a guy who will learn. I am on record wanting Wentz and wasn't a big fan of Dak pick. Felt like we would have been better off waiting to get a QB when we was in a position to get an elite prospect since tony is close to the end and it's too far into his career for a maybe project but after watching Dak in pre season and the first game I will say right now I was wrong about him. I think Dak can be the future franchise QB
He still has a lot to learn but he is starter capable right now and not many first rnd qb's really are ready this soon
He has convinced me I was wrong
