Something is just missing from this season. I don't get the feeling of pure evil that they are trying to stop like I did in the first season. Maybe things will take a turn and bring that back.

Yeah, I can't say I'm too "interested" in who killed the sleezy city manager.

I think its cumulative.... I think they are dealing with "Cultism" on a large government scale.

I think they're being more subtle with it this season, and unveiling it much more slowly. The first season really just hit you over the head with it.

But clearly something like the Bohemian Grove theory is bubbling under the surface so far. The show is so filled with little details and pieces of information that interconnect that it's virtually impossible to fully understand what's going on by casually watching an episode. It lends itself to internet forum discussion where people notice each thing and connect the dots (see: www.reddit.com/r/truedetective). I certainly don't pick up on all the things in one viewing. And I find that really cool, so I'm digging it.

I watch it twice, try to pick up visual, verbal, & musical subtext..... and yes they are more subtle.... Bohemian Grove is interesting..... I knew they were hinting towards some sort of secret society/Cult... so thats interesting if true, bold as well.

It's not bad so far. I wasn't a huge fan of Season 1. I liked it a lot. I just didn't think it was an all-time great. I'm wondering if they're just making us think this season will be cult-related again. I think the prevailing theories are that it will be cult-related and that it may even tie into Season 1. I'm wondering if they want us to run with that and then they'll throw us a wrench and it'll be something totally different. I didn't get caught up into all the "fan investigating" and watching for clues in Season 1. The show wasn't interesting enough for me to put too much effort into trying to read between the lines.

I think season one was great with two top actors doing some of their best work. I knew that it would be hard to top it, or even come close. Season 2 is okay, but it is a pale comparison to season 1 on many levels .

I loved the first season! To me, there was a lot of truth told in that first season. The first season was about something that is not supposed to be talked about... In the end, we find out that there is a satanic secret society who ritually abusing and murdering young children and teenagers. We also see that even though they "get there man" in the end, he was merely a go between for elitist members of the cabal, including politicians and religious leaders. In the end, nobody else is charged or pursued, and the other members of the satanic secret society are given safe haven by the "establishment"... I personally believe that these cabals do exist, and that often times serial killers and/or serial pedophiles that are categorized as lone nuts, are actually doing some of these things as part of a satanic cabal. There's a great book that presents valid evidence of this theory, it's called "Programmed to Kill", and I highly recommend it to anybody who liked True Detective season 1... There's also a youtube series by the same "Programmed to Kill" name, it was directly inspired by the book... The video series is also pretty good, but not nearly as in-depth as the book.

As for season 2, it's starting off pretty slow through 3 episodes, but I have faith that the creator/director will be dropping some major bombs in the coming episodes.

It will be about the "cults" if that's what you like to call them, I prefer to call them "cabals" because they do their business in secret. The person who created "True Detective" is trying to speak some real truth. Secret societies do control the world, the detectives in these stories are the real "true detectives", because they get closer to the cabal and their secrets than most could ever dream... In season one, we see how the elitist secret societies acquire children and others for ritual torture and sacrifice, and in the end the elites are protected from within. In season 2, we will see how the cabal controls the transportation system, and for what purpose, and I'm pretty sure it's not just about money.

Found this interesting comment from an interview before the finale of Season 1 that pretty much rules out any "twist" ending in Season 2:

Did you imagine that there would be so much audience speculation that Rust or Marty was the murderer, or was that a frustrating surprise as the show has unfolded?

NP: It was a little surprising, but not frustrating at all, just part of the experience of having people connect to the show. The possibility is built into the story, as it has to be credible that the 2012 PD suspect Cohle. I just thought that such a revelation would be terrible, obvious writing. For me, the worst writing generally just “flips” things: this person’s really a traitor; it was all a dream; etc. Nothing is so ruinous as a forced “twist,” I think.

Maybe I will catch up with it after the season is over and binge watch it but I just could not get into it. Frankly I think their Sunday Night Lineup of TD, Ballers and The Brink have been pretty disappointing for me. I guess I might be having GOT withdraws lol.

I know we disagree on TD... but I'm with you on Ballers and Brink... I can't bring myself to want to watch.... I started GOT from season 1 again....
always learn something new upon replay.

Rob Corddry might give me a laugh and there is some nice eye candy on it but even that is not enough that I "have" to watch ballers...it is one of those things that I record and sometimes watch one of the next few mornings before I go to work to pass the time.

I think you're right, there's probably just as much "evil" or whatever at the heart of this. I think it probably centers around human trafficking...not that that's an original idea of my own or anything.

One of the things that bugged me about Season 1 was that the main villain was portrayed as the drug manufacturer who wore the gas mask. It seemed like that one image of him was super important, and it turned out to be relatively minor. That character was really important for a couple of episodes as I recall. Season 2 seems to be skipping that step.

Great article on the city (if you can call it that) that Vinci is based on: http://theconcourse.********.com/lets-explore-the-corrupt-town-that-inspired-true-detect-1715997419

I'm loving the show but I get lost a lot.. How the hell did they get the info that eventually led to the big shootout? And what was that?

The two orphaned kids would be about the same ages as the mayor's two kids. Just a thought.
