I think if Vince hadn't chased the money he would have been great in more dramatic roles. "A cool dry place", "the cell", "swingers"...
I liked him in all of those more dramatic roles.
Looking forward to this, but they got some mighty big shoes to fill
After episode 1, it looks promising and worth the watch, but nowhere near as good as season 1 which was basically lightning in a bottle.
The whole time I'm watching scenes with Vaughn I'm waiting for the wise cracks, so hard to take him serious...
I am not going to sugar coat it...it just was not that good. It has time to get better but I am not going to hold out much hope.
Here is the problem I have.
We have three cops.
All of them have problems. One is clearly a drunk, the others might be as well, and is not above breaking the law not only that he is a crappy father who thinks he is doing right by threatening to beat his kid in front of the school to get info from him in order to make sure others don't bully him I mean the irony there can they make it any stronger.. The other one has a web cam adult film star drug addicted sister with a father that is a new age guru hippy and a mother that committed suicide, died or left them and from the looks of it she will fill the role of the hard core female character that does not trust men...finally we got another guy with a mysterious past who gets time off from work for doing the right thing but having it twisted on him, we have a guy that has scars from his past (metaphor and real) who has commitment issues with his woman but now he is basically trying to commit suicide on a motorcycle.
So we have three cops all with problems and frankly I don't know if we are supposed to connect with them but at this time the only way I could see me connected with them is if I was Emo as they all seem to be.
Now we got a weekend at bernies vibe by some unknown person driving some dead dude around for most of the show and dropping him off to be found at a road side rest stop and low and behold our three three fallen cops are going to have to work together to find out who killed this guy that is some big wig that has ties to the business community (legal or illegal) concerning a big money rail system. Along the way I am sure we will find that these cops are actually good cops with bad troubles and the will go on the road to redemption in order to solve the case.
Like I said...it could be better but the above rant is one of those things where they try to make a gritty, realistic, anti-villian type show but at the beginning just lay it on a little too thick. I hate shows and movies where there are no main characters that you end up liking. It is very hard to pull it off well and most do not. This one, at this point, just seems over the top, cheesy and cliche. I am hoping it proves me wrong and makes a turn for the better. But I figured I would just post a post that is just as jaded as the world the writers, directors, producers and actors are making in the show.
Of course...maybe that is just me.
I respect that... and I understand your apprehension. I'm not sure about a redemption arc for all three. I would not be surprised if 1 or 2 does not make it through the full ride to redemption.... Collin Ferrell assaulting the writer was a bit of a tip off of that to me, not to mention the wonky stedicam close ups of all three at the end (yes I admit that was rather 'Limburger"). Its the small things that I'm curious about... Rachel McAdams book collection, her sexual past, her mother..... Collin Ferrell, past as an officer, & husband that made him who he is. Vince Vaughn's wife (who is obviously the brains... not to mention they are having problems conceiving).....and Taylor Kitsch, wounds, and the fact he did have to take a sexual enhancement drug before having the same relations he was accused of attempting to barter for.
know it will be hard for some to watch after such a spectacular season 1, and yes its a much more stereotypical beginning than season 1. You feel like you've seen this before somehow... but after Pizalotta set us up with season 1, I would bet that season 2 doesn't end up as cleanly as some think it may.
Funny thing about Taylor Kitsch...I swear he looks like a young Timothy Olyphant in this series. I had not noticed it before with him in other roles but there were mutliple times I thought to myself...Wow Olyphant looks young only to go...duh that is not him.
Concerning the first season. I liked it however I did not think it was the be all end all that some thought it was. It was good but not one of the best ever as some seemed to think. Of course I like Matthew mcconaughey but people were acting like he was doing the bestest of best acting jobs in that series and I thought he was just playing another version of every other person he plays but without the humor. In other words, when someone is playing themselves...not a big acting job IMO.
But that is just me.
thats a shame, because he is a solid actor, and was good last night... but I guess he's done it to himself.

I agree with this...
but at some point we have to move on.
