Dont count on any rookie being a #1 out of the gate. The tend to need to acclimate more then most positions. Any pic will like be #3 or even #4 on the depth chart. It can happen, but guys like Marcus Peters are clear outliers
That's why im thinking Free agent to start....Rookie Corners struggle

Yep, I think he's gonna start. The staff obviously really likes the kid. Otherwise I dont see our top two corners walking only to be replaced with Carroll.

They fell into Dak we all know that, as for Zeke, was not hard to know he was going to good.
I just have no faith in front office, they will find a way to screw it up. I hope I'm wrong

Cool, did they also just fall into the 6 pre draft visits?

I don't think Brown is a #1 CB, but I do think that if Scandrick is healthy the group of Scandrick, Carroll and Brown in 2017 are better than Scandrick, Claiborne and Carr were going into the season of 2016. Today's rueage aside, very few fans wanted Claiborne resigned after 2015.

And people wonder why everyone in our secondary is leaving....:lmao2:

Rod Marinelli is in so far over his head as a defensive coordinator. I can't blame the DBs for leaving. Tired of being hung out to dry. "Let's play zone...make sure of the tackle...let's hope the offense makes a mistake." That right there is a losing brand of football....and a losers mentality.

I can't wait for this clown to leave town or retire. The game has completely pasted him by:angry:.

You forgot- "let's get off the field on 3rd down pass D" Worked better last year than '15, but it was horrendously painful to watch

I must have missed the announcement we were going back to a zone scheme. I thought thats what we were playing all along? Posters were saying thats why Carr and Claiborne sucked so much..because they were man corners in a zone scheme.

Whoever the number 1 is is going to get roasted like Carr did whenever they have to cover other #1s for the whole game while the pass rush gets stone-walled over and over.

He had a solid rookie season, but I hope the answer is false.

I would not mind seeing him play to a very high level. Where he was drafted means nothing. Josh Norman was a 5th rd pick, yet is considered a top CB in the league.
Brown showed a lot in his rookie season, my hope for him is he can take the next step and become a playmaker in this secondary.

Looking for the article now, but Rod knew he had two corners, in Carr and Claiborne, who were suited for man to man, while Scandrick could play both man or zone.

So it went on to say he changed up his traditional scheme to better suit our corners.

Here's an old article from 2014 where Rod says he'll play more man and press coverage

True and that's not a bad thing. The kid was thrown in the fire and he didn't do all that bad. He'll get even better.

This strategy is basically to wait for the opposition to make a mistake, or not make a play in the red zone.

This mentality is fine against average QBs, which is most of the league. But it will almost always fail at the highest level because the elite QBs today have become so refined they rarely make mistakes at critical times.

Thus good regular season record, and done in the playoffs as soon as we meet one of the elite QBs.

I'll go with True on this one, Brown did really well and at some points looked markedly better to me than Claiborne. He plays with swag and I think his confidence is just gonna go up next season. Now if we could only coach these guys to play the ball more.

We are switching to zone and I am more interested in whether he plays on the strong side or weakside. I prefer him as LCB because of how physical he is.

We are moving away from man calls and don't follow receivers so that notion of a pecking order is unfounded. Scandrick is likely to start weak and Brown strong with Carroll or the rookie manning nickel.

Zone can create turnovers, but also can get you picked apart by a good QB.

Better have pressure if you want to run zone, course we might have an issue with that.

I hope to God not. The kid was burned more times than a celebrity at a roast. He's got the talent, but is definitely not a #1 corner. Here's hoping a Gareon Conley or a Quincy Wilson falls into our lap at 28. Either that, or we take Charles Harris at 28, & someone like Awuzie or one of the Kings (Kenny or Desmond) are there at 60. The corner class is so deep, there is always Douglas out of WV, Sutton from Tennessee, or White from LSU. We're going to get a quality CB in this draft who can become a #1 corner in this league. There are just too many to choose from. Any of the ones I've just mentioned are better than Brown. Put him at #2 or in the slot until he learns not to fall for the first move he sees. I would love to have a safety like Melifonwu of UConn, but our needs may not allow it. Imagine him & his old buddy Jones roaming the field together. He's the perfect S/LB who can cover both receivers & tight ends with little trouble. Hell, why not try HIM at corner to see how he does? We'd have to take him at 28, or move back for another pick & take him at the top of the 2nd.
