Trying Hard

Not every team tries hard.

There are teams right now, mailing it in.

My question is this.

Is this "team" battling for Garrett? Or for Marinelli? Or in spite of him?

I can't see much to suggest it is "for Garrett".

I think they try (by what goofy way you wish to define it) for Coach Rod. I don't think it is the same for Coach Red or Linehan.

It will shock me if we do not start hearing rumblings from players on the defense about the inept offense. Oh and I don't mean rumblings from players like Hardy and Dez (I know Dez is on offense) as they always chirp at stuff on the sidelines.

"fight." 4 wins, 9 losses, 13 fights. All it gets you is last place and a high draft pick.

Not sure I expected to win, but did think the team (or anyone here last year) would show some heart. I thought we'd see better effort. Look forward to hearing JG talk us through the process and pump more sunshine

I think the offense, including Cassel, has quit on the the offensive coaching staff and their outdated scheme.

The offensive scheme definitely needs to be overhauled. Unfortunately I think we're stuck with it until both Garrett and Romo are gone.

Even if Garrett is fired (which I doubt happens, although it's deserving) I could see Jones bringing in some handpicked puppet who will run the same scheme just because Romo is used to it.

I think when Jones talks about "trying hard", it absolutely is Marinelli. And you are right, Garrett and Linehan, not so much.

Thing is where do you go from here.

In my opinion, athletes are paid a TON of money to always try hard and give their best. In other words, it's a given .. it's expected of them. There's no applauding for trying hard or giving their best, because they are paid well to do it.

In school, youth or recreational leagues, playing hard, giving your best, etc. is something you can be proud of. The only thing that matters in paid sports is winning.

I liked the JG timeout after another Lacy 20 yard rumble to about the 10 yard line with 3 minutes left, down 21-7, and having no offense or hope to take that to. Relentless Spirit.

 I'd forgotten about those "exciting" losses.

It's hard to keep up with the stupid things that come out of that man's mouth.

yeah like "magnanimous". That was one magnanimous exciting loss for our ball club tonight.

I respect and admire hard work. Hard work without results, though. isn't acceptable.

Not only is it not acceptable. It's magnanimous and unacceptable.

This is my new favorite word and I'm going to burn it into the ground.

The whole "they play hard for Garrett" is one of the worst things I've ever heard. EVERY team in the NFL tries hard. We saw a winless Detroit team under a catatonic coach reel off 3-4 wins straight. All players want to win. They get paid to try. Guess what...a lot of players hated Jimmy and he won. When they were 1-15 they played their tails off but had no talent. Here is my issue...if they love the guy so much and play so hard for him, why do they always start so sloppy and slow? To me that means way more...being unprepared..then still fighting when you already dug your hole

Maybe the problem is that the team IS buying what Garrett is selling. They're so enamored with their ability to show up they fail to realize that winning football is about strategy and execution not just effort.
