The problem with Dak is we win and lose the same games we would win and lose with Cooper Rush for 10 times more money
It's so cowboys to try to win now with rush. Even if you make playoffs what do you expect to do with rush. And if you win with rush what does that say about Dak and his contract? Ultimate lose lose and so Jerry and cowboys. Sigh.

Like I said, will go down as one of the worst Cowboys contracts in recent history and possibly one of the worse quarterback ones too imo. Watson esq.

Jerry just wants to stay "relevant".

They should have let him play out the season. Got what they could for Lamb. First goal would be to build the trenches back up, sign /draft Dt's while starting Lance since you wasted a 4th on him. Pick up serviceable Rbs(many cheap ones having a good season) and always look for the QB to draft. We have seen many teams rebuild and put competent playoff teams together in 2-4 year spans.

But you know that requires competent GMs and ones that understand how to manipulate the cap. We got two clowns with no clue
How disappointing Dak and Zeke’s final big contracts may end up. I thought both those dudes were going to have glorious SB futures here after their amazing rookie years.

Except- the context of the post was another rival gm saying I want him to be “our” starting quarterback….lol. That’s completely different than saying “you’d” love to him as “your” starting qb. If you know business law at all you know how one word can completely change something.

What you said was basic and generic- what the poster said was a hypothetical where a rival gm of a team said that he wanted a current player under contract (in this case dak) to be HIS teams franchise quartbeack. They are not the same. One is generic and bland, the other is very direct and straight forward.
IDK,sounds generic to me!!!!

For anyone whose in business be it sales or the law - one or 2 words may seem insignificant but it completely changes the meaning of something. Saying anyone would want player x at quarterback is entirely different than saying “ I want player x to be my franchise quarterback” in particular while you run a team and player x is under contract with another team.

May sound similar but 2 entirely different things

No, the echo chamber stuff is listening to what a former coach who goes back and forth on the issue says and using it to substantiate a current take. In this case specifically the market means everything and not jimmy’s opinion
Jimmy is not going "back and forth". "You can win" is a back-handed compliment that Jimmy was giving to be politically correct. The fact that this thread is making you so upset is proof that Jimmy's words carry weight and so he was being kind until the truth hit you over the head like a blunt instrument.

BTW, regurgitating the opposite of what someone said without offering anything new ...is empty.

LOL, I would advise everyone to read that article for themselves, he just stated his opinion like many have done before that they wouldn't have paid Dak that much. But he never said Dak didn't earn that money, he said Dak is an elite player but not the best player in the league, (which is a debate for anyone to pick who they believe is the best player in the league).
The Jones's always make those contracts to where they can still make moves when needed, Stephen has said this on many occasions.

I’m not upset at all…in fact I’ve said several times move on from dak. Totally fine with it. Been consistent there. The only people who care what jimmy has to say and hold onto it like it’s gospel are those clinging to the past. Jimmy flips back and forth on this and many other things.

So in one breath you say jimmy is being politically correct and in the next when he says something you agree with it’s sincere and meaningful? Talk about empty….pot meet kettle

We've been here before. You pay the man until somebody takes his job. You don't go into QB purgatory just because you think you can do better. This is what the market is now for viable QBs, and Dak has proven to be that and more.

Jimmy has said Dak is an early read QB, just like Witten did when he used to be in broadcasting. None of them has an agenda as that point in time

Winning surrounded by pieces is not a complement, as any NFL QB can win when surrounded by talent and in a horrible division. That was self-evident by the fact he was winning. None of that is construed as winning a championship or going deep in the play-offs.

What is also self-evident is he’s straight garbage when he doesn’t have as much talent surrounding him, like what we are seeing now.

We’ve told you all that for years.

Is there anyone in the world besides Jerry that thinks Dak is worth $60 million? I know there are Dak supporters out there but I have yet to hear anyone say convincingly that Dak deserved $60 million. and before anyone says $60 million will look cheap in 4 years, just remember, Dak has a CAP number of just under $90 million next year.

The fact is Dak is a good QB. He is not a great QB. He is not near the top 5 QBs in the league. This year he is playing like a not so good QB. Then he got hurt.

Jimmy asked a question, why pay Dak at all this year? The answer only requires a look at his CAP number before the new contract. Dak was to have a CAP number around $55 million. The extension allowed Jerry to restructure Dak to lower his CAP in 2024. Of course this doesn't mean Jerry had to agree to $60 million. That was all Jerry.

The problem with Dak's deal is his first deal was bad too. Dak never earned the $40 million he got back in 2021. But Jerry restructured that deal a couple of times leaving him the mess in 2024. No trade, no franchise tag. Both agreements Jerry made. Jerry had no leverage on Dak. Dak came to the table demanding $60 million and Jerry flinched.

I would have said no. I think most people would have said no, if they had an interest in seeing what's best for the Cowboys. But Jerry said yes. And here we are, stuck with Dak at $60 million per year. Let's just hope Jerry does not restructure this deal creating a even worse nightmare in 2 years.

.

But this notion that the Cowboys "had to pay Dak because the market said so" is just echo chamber stuff.

:hammer: its an example of people repeating things they heard other people say because they think it makes them sound intelligent and in the majority. No common sense or thoughtful analysis required

Mindless group think is a horrible thing
