Turpin or Deuce?

We've only seen one game so I'm projecting here but play along. It seemed the role we envisioned for Deuce Vaughn was given to Kavontae Turpin in the opener. He was the guy in the gadget role behind Pollard and the JAG that is Rico Dowdle.

There doesn't seem to be enough snaps to go around for the four of them so my question is this.

Would you rather keep it as it was on Sunday night since recency bias has Turpin finding the end zone in the opener and he's now probably an uber weapon around here or do you want that role to go to Vaughn?

Again, they can't possibly feed four. Deuce was the odd man out in the opener until the game was well over. Someone will be the odd man out on Sunday and going forward. So pick one.

What's the question...yes and yes and blaze the defense for about 12 times apiece.

Two different players..limited role for both. Turpin has more experience and Duece is barely getting his feet wet. It'll take him some time, but I think he will eventually pass up Turpin.
Plenty of opportunities to influence for both. 4.3 in pairs.

Both.

  • Turpin runs jet sweeps and is a surprise option motioning into the backfield.
  • Deuce is the change of pace back and surprise option motioning out as a receiver.
I'd like to see both options utilized in the playbook

MM is using Turpin like how he used Cobb in GB. Cobb at times got the ball lining up as a RB. They are both Slot guys with punt return skills.

Would be interesting to see Turpin fake a jet sweep, with Deuce in the backfield getting the hand off. Misdirection coupled with some quick guys who sort of hide behind the line could cause confusion for the defense.

Deuce all the way.

Not a Turpin fan. As someone already said, he's OK. But, we can do better.

For some reason, we refuse to draft guys to return in the later rounds.

I think it’s more likely that Turpin continues he gadget role and Deuce takes over Dowdle’s touches. I think Dowdle is only getting touches at this point due to familiarity with the offense and pass protection. I agree that Dowdle is JAG.

Honestly I dont really know. Turpin had decent production given his usage. Vaughn got 8 yards on 6 carries. Turpin's role is only ever going to be small, whereas Vaughn could hand a decent amount of usage. Right now Turpin looks like the better player, and Vaughn has to prove that wrong.

Turpin is a mediocre return specialist at best. His average yards per return ranked very poorly last season. (30th/18th) He makes poor decisions, and fumbles much too often- more fumbles than any of the top 25 punt returners. WR? pfff.... A gadget player at best. Put him in for a couple of jet sweeps per game that everyone knows is coming? I would not have kept him on the final roster this year.

Deuce? 6 carries for 8 yards. A staggering 1.3 yards per carry average. This is the next Sanders? Sproles? The jury is still our for sure. I've been a Deuce sceptic, but let's see at the end of the season.

Personally, I want the one that can hang on to the dang ball. We don’t know yet about Duece, but Turpin showed last year he can’t be trusted. Turnovers are game altering events. Look no further than the Jets, and the Eagles to a lesser degree, week 1 games.

Deuce is better player. Deuce will get his plays and if Pollard misses time he will come to the forefront and the entire NFL will fall in love with the kid.

Turpin earned his chance. I want to see what he brings in the pass game and the gimmick plays.
Deuce is a rookie, mature beyond his years, but I don’t want to see any rookie mistakes early on.
while Deuce is very quick and exciting, he is not fast like Turpin. In Deuce’s college highlights, he was amazing, but he was often run down from behind. You cannot be but so fast with those legs.

For now, I want to give Turpin a chance to turn some plays into house calls. We shall see how it all works out.

We have not seen duece do anything, and turpin has done very little

I will take rico over what we have "actually" seen from those 2 on offense
