well, I disagree. they were in superbowl. lost a close game. made a change at QB and made mid season moves and won the superbowl.

there are other teams having done similar. you don't stand pat, you make changes to get better. eagles fired their GM and moved quickly to address a situation.

Lions made a lot of moves and are in position to make a run this post season.

both of them started with great head coaches that were aligned with GM. situation that will never happen in Dallas.
THE Rams traded their first round pick from 2017 to like 2023....a team has never done this and won. It's credit to McVey. They made a SB with Goff. Mind you, Goff is a solid starter but that Goff that made that SB wasn't. He was playing some terrible football during the playoffs which was why they moved on.

Yes they did, but they've already completed the tear down and been back to the playoffs multiple times since. The Rams arent afraid to pay top coaches and turn their roster over. The Cowboys enjoy the status quo and taking the path of least resistance...the Rams arent afraid to gamble to maximize their winning potential.
THere's also nothing to say they wouldn't have won a ring had they stuck with Goff and kept their draft picks. McVey went to a SB with Goff.

Some of you guys want Stephen to take control  He is worried about the cash and brand. Nothing else matters to him.
Stephen already said that if anything they will become even more conservative once Jerry is gone.

My question is how is that even possible?

Even if he does step back and hire someone to run things, he is still the guy who will choose that person, and still holds the checkbook….tightly.

I think pretty much everyone has seen Coming to America :muttley:
One of my all time favorites.

Sequels are typically not so great but this one was especially atrocious. I mean just awful. I’d rather listen to Jerry speak for two hours than see that again. Well…hang on a minute on that one lol

I don’t think Stephen has the stomach to be the front man. He would probably hire a front man as soon as the fans and media criticize him. Jerry protects Stephen from the national media.

Speaking of the Rams, another key point is they got to where they were the worst team in the league….hired the right coach and GM, and built it up from there.

Guess they weren’t too worried about remaining relevant and middle of the pack so the owner could sell the product in front of cameras and mics.

It's pretty much obvious to everyone that Jerry and Stephen are clueless.

I am really really really hoping Jerry goes to McCarthy for an extension and he tells him to pound sand.
Never gonna happen

Mccarthy will never turn down the cash with the Cowboys brand and knowing he has Dak to ensure continued “relevance”

Jerry, McCarthy and Dak
Match made in hell

Look what the Eagles have been doing. You get substantially more draft capital when you are bad. Would rather have really good years and really bad years than constant middling with no playoff advancement potential.

No surprise here. A great HC paired with a great GM.
It works!

That head coach makes around 15-16 million in think, maybe a bit more.

MM makes 4 million.

We bargain shop, even at head coach.

That’s my hope as well, but again he still holds the checkbook and free agency is still probably off the table, which may limit who they can attract as a GM.

I really couldn’t say at this point. Once the futility streak approaches the 40 year mark and they are the only team in the league that hasn’t played in CG in this century, maybe he realizes his “secret sauce” doesn’t taste very well, but when do narcissists admit that they are wrong?

I mean, did Brandon Carr really spook them that badly? It’s nearly unfathomable that they haven’t signed a significant FA in THAT long….haven’t won….but refuse to change.

There’s a lot of angst and complaints around here, but IMO it’s more about the refusal to change than wins and losses.

unprecedented moves that work. which tells us there is more than one way to get to the superbowl and win it.
either you get lucky with a player like Mahomes who is generational talent.
or get the #1 over all pick and lucky enough for a Burrows type player coming out and not a turbiskey or bryce young, or kyler murray.

otherwise you need a good QB, and build a team around that QB. like Philadelphia or SF or Atlanta (at least make it to the dance to actually have a chance).

The dumb take is thinking what the Rams did is what you should emulate.
I don't think you need to emulate what the Rams did, but Jerry/Stephen keeping coaches for a decade that cant win playoff games and sitting out free agency isn't working either. Its not just trading premium picks Its just the willingness to try something new and think outside the box to get a competitive advantage. The Cowboys are unlikely to roll the dice on a 30 year old HC candidate with no experience and a 40 year old GM. The issue isnt that the Rams have figured out a magical formula that the Cowboys wont use, its that the Rams are willing to gamble, even on up and coming coaching candidates while if Jerry owned the Rams Jeff Fisher might still be running the show.

Cowboys have become a boring franchise, no pizzaz anymore, no desire to be great, Stephen just wants to be average. I'm not sure what happen to Jerry, I thought hes intent on winning the Super Bowl in his golden years but he seems as if he's checked out mentally on that now.

Where have you gone America's Team? Even the networks are wondering what happened now that you stuck in the noon time slot

You dont have to just to spend money in free agency to spend money you try to find players that will improve your roster and add depth without breaking the bank
I'd prefer signing a bunch of 2nd tier guys to add depth then spend big on 1 or 2 guys, unless your 1 or 2 players away from being a contender.

Rams also have elite coaching. McVay is one of the if not THE top HC in the pros today. His ability to call plays is incredible. He's on Andy Reid level almost but hasnt been around as long.

Saying build a team around a good QB is one thing. Saying to trade your first round pick every year to do it is nuts.

In order for what the Rams did to work you need to first off have a generational head coach. And let's be honest....McVey is one of the few that is. He's what people think Kyle Shanahan is except with not as much talent.
