More talented this year than last should mean at least another top 7-8 defense if not higher. Sure there are games where they haven't done so well. That happens to every team at some point in the season. But overall, the progress is there. The days of Romo having to single handedly carring this team are over.
This Defense is going to be magnificent barring catastrophic injury.
Be clear on this if nothing else:
This is a top 3 unit in the NFL as soon as Lawrence puts his hand in the dirt.
I think they will be good but not top 3.
I think they are definitely better then last year based on maturation and swagger. And the secondary seem better with another year with Richard.
But make no mistake................this defense will depend on Lawrence, Quinn, Jones and how much they come back healthy and at the top level.
These backups like Taco, Armstrong, Hill arent going to make much of a difference this year.
Hill not so much, but I think you’re wrong about Taco and Dorance.I think they are definitely better then last year based on maturation and swagger. And the secondary seem better with another year with Richard.

How about just, Meh?How about just men...lol.
This is my biggest pet peeve of alltime: rankings with refusal to add context. The third greatest defense in the NFL last year was statistically Chicago. Chicago’s defense is PHENOMENAL. ALL-PRO Safety play, run stopping DTs, the greatest DE on planet earth, linebackers that crush just about anybody else’s unit not named the Dallas Cowboys. Byron Jones was second team ALL-PRO last year. That’s awesome, but Kyle Fuller was the single best corner in football and had the most votes on the First Team. In order for you to be top 3, you have to have surpassed at least the third-Ranked team.
So please explain to me and everyone here how after you got run roughshod for 280 yards against the LA Rams and then proceeded to do nothing DT aside from drafting a project player in the second round and absolutely nothing at safety (with your linebacking talent, it was 100% on the DTs and safeties). Jeff Heath? “We’re good there, hopefully no one notices we gave up record yards the last time we played.”
Why did Dallas get so dramatically better and at the same time Chicago’s D randomly collapsed without them knowing? I HATE when people ignore context.
No, I don't think I will.
Keep obsessing Cowboys. It's only going to get worse for you around here. You see- you're an Eagles fan. Cool. You do you bro.
But no-one really cares what you think. You're wasting your time. You're a joke, and you make it worse for yourself with every meandering diatribe with non-sensical evaluations of our roster.
I'd advise to leave CZ before you end up self harming because Dak outplayed Wentz, our Defense proves better than yours, etc.
You think my claim that the Cowboys D will be a top 3 unit in the NFL is outlandish? You proclaimed our WK 2 contest vs NY last season an "elimination" game.
So, you have zero cred with me. If others in here want to engage you, that's their prerogative.
When the Cowboys thrash the Eagles 2x this season, perhaps those same folks will comfort you.
I’ll settle for them being top 5 in turnovers. If they do that. This team is going places.
Where is the progress in the playoffs? You say 5 years? That includes 2 putrid performances against Rodgers and then flat out embarrassed to the Rams run game. I don't see any progress. It's the same stuff. They play good for a little stretch and revert right back to their true selves, which is below average. They were terrible the final quarter of last season.
It's always "Watch and see" with this defense. They never actually carry their weight when needed.

You bring up a good point. Dak takes the flack from the uninformed, but it has been the defense's failure that has kept us from advancing in the playoffs.
Unfortunately, you are correct. Cant ignore the premise you laid out just because you're an Eagles fan.
Dak finished 2018 No. 1 in QBR in the postseason. How's that for informed?Dak finished #17 in Qbr last year. Consider yourself informed
