Can we stop freaking out about drafting a day 1 starter at LG? The team has shown under McCarthy they are a “best 5” OL team. This means our starters on paper will be:

Smith/Smith/Tyler B/Martin/Steele

Had the team wanted Tyler at LT and Tyron/Steele on the bench they would’ve prioritized a LG. If there’s anything this team drafts for it’s need.

You get Farniok and Chuma as your IOL depth and Waletzko as your 4th T. With multiple injuries Tyler Smith would slide out to T while Farniok/Chuma/day 3 draft pick would battle it out to be the first one in if there’s an issue on the IOL.

The key is Waletzko being the swing I think he can be and the team says he can be. If so we are fine at OL.

T’s: Smith, Smith, Steele, Wally
G’s: ZM, Smith, Chuma, Farniok, (day 3 pick)
G/C: Tyler B, Farniok

Is that not a deep OL? Again, you have to see it from the lense that Tyler Smith is starting which all signs are pointing to. With a draft pick that’s 11 OL.

The plan sucks
Tyler is your future LT and should be at LT
Tyrone at his age should be swing. I like Wally but prefer a swing to be a guy that’s actually played a snsp
Tyrone’s real value is having him when you need him because he’s very unlikely to play 17 games and when he goes down then you have to move two positions

Taking Fehoko in the 3rd, I guess they are comfortable with a an OL room that’s 10 deep. But thanks for breaking it down like this. It has calmed me down a bit… still would have liked to see an OL pick, but I guess the draft isn’t over yet.

So what happen when Tyron Smith is injured in Week 2? And Steele is coming off knee surgery and might not be ready for Week 1.....then what?

So if Tyler Smith is a pro-bowl caliber guard like he’s already shown the potential to do this plan sucks?

I could be with Tyron as swing, but at his salary and play when healthy it doesn’t make sense to sit one of your best 5. Especially when he’s a HOF LT.

Again, we don’t see Waletzko daily like the team does. They’ve had him for a year already and he’s taken some PS snaps. If they see him and feel he can do the job then I can’t blame them.

There’s every chance a IOL we draft high doesn’t work out also. Smith we know can be good there. I’d rather be in wait and see mode about Wally than wait and see more about a starter.

I said that in the OP. The FO and from the little I saw believe that Waletzko can be a good swing T. The key here is Wally at swing, not who’s starting at LG.

Steele is 100000% going to be ready by training camp. He’s already doing kick slides and is almost back cleared. Just do any google search and see where anyone is concerned about Steele being available week 1. You can also watch his recent workouts he’s obviously going to be fine.

Yup. Me and everyone who’s reported on it.

You haven’t seen Steele recently? He’s doing kickslides and is getting close to being cleared and it’s not even minicamp.

Nothing reported or from the workout videos he posted points to him not being ready.

Im fine with him being the starting Guard and he should be...

we have flexibility on the line which is a good thing....Martin Can play Tackle VERY well, but is at guard Smith can play Tackle Very well but will be guard and guard is easier because you have people to the sides of you and youre not on an island

And when Tyron gets hurt, which he will, then what?

You move Tyler to LT and LG sucks again. Or do you hope like hell Waletzko can play OT or OG?

When the Cowboys take risks at positions - WR (twice), DT - thinking they have enough or can patchwork it with bodies, it blows up in their face.

No problem! I think the team has gotten alot more secretive in the McCarthy era. So when media reports that we have a hole at LG we tend to think the FO feels the same because for the longest they were overly transparent on what they wanted.

With this, we all got our hopes up that we would pick a G high to step in day-1, when all along Tyler was the LG. If you approach the draft thinking about our OL like the way I put it in the post, none of us would be that upset over not drafting what would be a backup G.
