I don’t want to give the impression that it’s giving up on Guyton. I still think Guyton can/will ultimately be good.

But right now:

Tyler smith at LT and Bass at LG. Is better than

Guyton at LT and Smith at LG.

So, if we want to win games right now. That should be the lineup.

I agree and Im not giving up either on Guyton but he should not see the field until he can actually play

Steele has an already fully guaranteed 17 million coming next season.

Keep that in mind while trying to dream up a way to move on.

They couldn’t wait to pat themselves on the back for finding a UDFA starter by giving him way more money than they had to. Of course they thought they were outsmarting everyone else because he was hurt. Didn’t seem like some discount to me.

It’s almost as if Jerry tells these guys who blow up a knee late in a season…”don’t worry, we will sign you anyway” just so he can play Me Nice Guy. A year from now Gallup is still going to count 8m against the cap.

Things like THIS are why they “can’t afford” to even CALL Derek Henry.

I liked Tyler a lot at LT. that being said. I get that is he also an amazing guard.

But Guyton was known to be a bit of a project when he was drafted. All the scouts knew he would need time. Planning to use him as day 1 starter was foolish.
They didn’t plan to. When Odoga went out plans changed. Guyton has to get stronger up top, he doesn’t have NFL strength at present. Bass is better at RG than he is at LG, but I agree short term the OL is better with Smith outside. Steele is just a complete disappointment.

He will be the starter at LT at least against Detroit, then after the bye we will see if Guyton is ready to resume.

Oh you mean when the guy that is constantly hurt Edoga, got hurt?

Yeah it was a great plan.

They also still could have done multiple other things than start Guyton who clearly wasn’t ready.

Tyler Smith played really well his rookie year at LT so of course they moved him to guard ?

Guyton to be honest might me more comfortable at RT with Steele as depth . With either Hoffman or Bass taking Tyler Smiths guard position .

During the game they mentioned on the broadcast the Cowboys run blocking scheme had changed they were not zone blocking just fire out block smash mouth . It worked . Beebe is going to be quite a center .

Yep, they could’ve done multiple other things that may not have been any better than what they’ve done.

In 2026, when the monumental mistake of extending Steele can be over, Guyton will be your RT and Smith will be at LT. They can find guards.

They cannot use another high pick on an OL and it’s unlikely they will find the mid round OT gem they think they can. See: Ball, Josh, and Waletzko, Matthew.

Can't lie he looked good at LT just like 2 years ago....
Image what he could do if he ever got to practice at that position. I know he looks great at guard, but he has had three training camps to practice there. The year he played LT all season he never practiced at LT until he switched out permanently, which was pretty much right before the first game. Second and third TC were all guard. I think that if he actually could get a camp at LT he would be just as good at LT as LG.

Not taking all the blame off of Steele, he has been bad this year, but I also think a lot of the blame for the OL struggles is the coach. Solari is not a good coach anymore. Steele had a good relationship with the previous coach and I think between missing that connection, Solari being bad, and returning from the injury not in the same condition, is all adding up to Steele's struggles. Could probably overcome one or maybe two of those issues but all three is hard.

Bass struggled
Did he? I wasn't really watching him. I didn't see any real big mistakes. I would expect some missed assignments but I did not see him get shoved around. I felt the line was better the way it finished the game. But I'd have to watch the game again and focus on Bass to see.

Just like Mazi, Cowboy fans get caught up in bashing rookies that Jerry forces into the lineup. Dt and Lt aren't positions you expect a guy to be good immediately. If they are its just a bonus but it's not the norm. This should be football basics but............
