Smith should definitely stay at LT. Guyton and Mazi are both terrible. Last two firsts really holding us back.
IMO, Smith = BIGG(Leonard Davis). He was a mediocre LT for ARI for years. We signed him for OG and he was completely dominant there. IMO, this is the same situation. We desperately need Smith to take over for Martin as a dominant OG. He'd only be adequate at LT.

I
Agreed. Bass struggled throughout the game, but he played his best game during the last/winning TD drive. Both Bass and Hoffman can alternate at Left Guard until one of them solidifies it.
think Bass can pick up his game at G faster then our rookie left tackle can at T. Within a few weeks I think smith and bass on the left are better than Guyton and smith.

Borderline solid; I would have said adequate

Yes. And he is an even better player now from having more experience in the NFL and being in even better shape and conditioning.

Again, I’m just saying this short term. I doubt the coaches do it. But Guyton is hurting the offense right now until he gets his initial punch and footwork under control.

I don’t want to give the impression that it’s giving up on Guyton. I still think Guyton can/will ultimately be good.

But right now:

Tyler smith at LT and Bass at LG. Is better than

Guyton at LT and Smith at LG.

So, if we want to win games right now. That should be the lineup.
I completely agree.

NO . Guyton is a stud , just look at the Cleveland game and how he shut down Garrett.

No, Richards should be starting at LT and Smith should be at RT.

Guyton seems weak and either lazy with his feet and/or slow with them. He is getting beat with speed and inside moves andup top has no punch with his arms. Just remember Tyron's arms were huge and powerful and his punch was devastating early in his career until his elbows got bad. Guyton needs to build strength.

I don't think Bass was bad and on that straight on blocking scheme he excelled. The last drive with its productive runs was just helmet on helmet road grading and Bass is powerful . . . just a little slow with his feet when he asked to move laterally.

I think time in the weightroom and coaching can help Guyton. Go after another tackle in the draft.

Or they were hoping that he would easily transition into his position the way Tyler Smith did his rookie year.
By all accounts Guyton was a pure project player drafted for traits. I expected him to ride the bench this year. Not remotely as ready as Tyler Smith was projected, and Tyler outplayed his projection his rookie year.

That was the consensus when we drafted Guyton - great traits, but not ready for primetime. Managed to look ok in preseason against other backups and starters who weren't going full speed. I'll take it, but we should recognize his preseason success as not really indicative of what he would do in against live fire in the regular season.

PFF grades out Richards slightly higher than Steele at 64.6, and 64.8 last year. Passed the eyeball test for me last year.

Hey I’m willing to give him a shot. Steele is who he is. He ain’t getting any better.

Richards still could possibly improve.

I would be 100% fine with them giving Richard’s a shot.

Bryan Broaddus and Bobby Belt both reported that the coaches seem to like Richard’s as a guard more. But who knows for sure.

Guytons first snaps at LT were with Dallas. He is learning a completely new position. They should have put him at RT to start with.

I think I heard about them liking him more as a guard too.
We're always funny about moving guys out of position.

They don't seem to like him more than Bass at G, though. PFF has Bass at 47.6 this year. Not good.

The cowboys also love “position flex”. Aka mediocre at multiple positions.

I agree although I would let Bass and Hoffman fight it out to see who gets to start at LG.
Supposedly they like Richards more as a G than a T. PFF has him rated around 65 the last couple of years. He has always passed the eyeball test to me.

Bass has not been good this year. I'd give Richards a try at G. Or LT. He just has never looked bad and currently Bass does.
