Smith was a penalty machine in College. The fact the brass thought he would come to the most penalized team in football and miraculously cut out the penalties is a bad assumption on their part.

Dude, it’s not just Smith that’s making these penalties and he wasn’t even on the team last year where they lead the league in penalties most coming from the offensive line.

People forget that he's super raw and new to football. He's gonna improve tremendously once he learns the game mentally to go with his physicality.

He's not new to football … but yes, he needs some work and polish, and he has a learning curve with changing positions.

I have never seen anyone dominate like LA did.

Smith has a lot of power and wants to hit which is very important; but tap the brakes BIG TIME comparing him to LA.

I don't remember LA dominating people his rookie year.

CBS graded each first round rookie after one week. Smith got an A- and the writeup was pretty effusive.

Few things that are GREAT signs:

1. his pad level was great
2. His ability to drive defenders down the field is great as well
3. His combo blocking and ability to move up to the next level is promising

Also the penalties can be cleaned up with coaching. His problem in college was his hand placement. He would almost ALWAYS get his hands outside near the shoulder pads and that will undoubtedly get a holding penalty called every single time.

I think my point remains, LA wasn't destroying people the way Tyler is in his rookie season. He developed that more as he went. He was very very good his rookie year but i don't remember him destroying people the way he did in his subsequent years.

I believe the point is he can get on that trajectory as he grows and gets even stronger.

I believe the Cowboys see this as they made him take #73. It is a strange practice to force numbers on players because of playstyle but the Cowboys clearly think he is capable.

Diggs gave up a lot of yards...yada yada...he has 11 INTs.

Tyler Smith might commit a couple of penalties early but by the 2nd half, defensive players will lose their will to compete.
