Looks like its that disk problem rearing its head again. Sounds like a bulging disk into the nerve cord. It wont go away on its own if it hasn't with the months of rest he has had. He may need surgical intervention in order to play in the NFL with that disk issue. There will be good days and bad days but not a long run of good days. Even with the back issue, he is better than most but it will only get worse as teams recognize his weakness and start stacking his side.
Tyron was the beginning of the cycle of the new powerhouse offense to protect Romo and the Cowboys may have too start the cycle again or hope he gets better or a discectomy is undergone and healing takes place.
I wonder how severe the issue really is?
In college, I had a herniated disc from playing football. I was hit hard in the lower back and it started the process where a few months later, I started getting back pain and numbness in the butt and down the leg. For about 8 months, I tried the various exercises and medications to control it but it never really went away, only brief temporary relief.
I had surgery to remove the disc in the 90s - I believe it was the L5-S1 disc. Best decision I ever made. Never really had any significant issues after that. Occassionally, because they didn't cut away the entire disc, if I shift the wrong way, I might get some pain and numbness in the other leg, but it's temporary and is usually gone in a day or two.
Now granted, I am not a NFL OT under constant duress. Then again, I also didn't have the extensive training facilities Smith has and there have been advancements in back surgery over the last 20 years.
I suspect we might see talk of offseason back surgery this coming year.
