I think he was one of the best LT who ever played the game. not saying he is #1 or anything to that, but he was great. most people forget he entered the league at 20 years of age, having been in the league 2,3 years earlier than most others who come to the league and his body as the LT has taken a toll over the years. he has become injury prone.its inevitable if you stay in the league for that long. specially on the OL going against 280+ players, every down. he will be in the ring and he will be in the HOF. if he doesn't go first ballot, it would be a shame.

I completely agree, and yes, it's amazing when you consider how old he was when he came into the league. Also, it would be a scandal if he doesn't get first ballot HOF status, along with the ROH. I've not been a fan as long as many of you here, but I daresay he's probably the second best tackle to ever play for the Cowboys behind Erik Williams.

Smith has never been one to maximize his earnings. His extension made him catch flack from the NFLPA. He could of very well held the Cowboys over a barrel during his peak. Never held out, nor tried to get a new bigger contract during his peak.

If he does well, he can earn that back and more(resulting in a 2024 cap hit even if he leaves). Hope he does well in 23. A healthy Tyron Smith means our line is at our best while Tyler continues to develop.

I'd love for him to stay healthy. We need him to stay healthy. If he does, I think this offense will be fantastic.

I'm wishing Tyron all the best and hope he does finally play almost the full season. I know that is asking a lot though. But i do agree he has already cemented himself as a first ballot HOF. As for ROH, there are too many other Cowboys still worthy and are waiting....leave it to Jerry to hold things up just because Jimmy is in the conversation right now. Thinks we all will forget about that. If Tyron can be able to get in at least 12-14 games in, that would be a win for the team. But really need him in the playoffs.

Here's a fun little game to play.
I challenge anyone to total up all the money they have made in their respective careers and then agree they will take less than half of the amount they are owed this year, just because of what they were paid previously.

It's not happening with pretty much anyone else on the planet, except with an athlete of high moral character who just wants to keep playing.
Mostly, sure.

His situation? Not so fast my friend.

He has been unreliable and is paid where he should in the middle of the pack.

It’s what they could’ve offered Zeke and would’ve made sense. Making $6 million guaranteed and other guarantees which likely is things like games played, pro bowl etc. it’s better to take a little less than hit the market and make less guaranteed.

Yeah, those ragging on Tyron forget that so conveniently; when he took that extension the NFLPA was whining about it. Which of course was just another example of how worthless that POS so called union is. Tyron was and is a sharp guy; figured things out quickly as regards reality. Taking that deal gave him complete financial security for himself and those he loves. It was nowhere near what he could have gotten. That is what is maddening about those who ignore just how much the best in the NFL can make. BUT only the BEST. There are three tiers in the NFL; or maybe we should be brutal and call them castes. There are the best like Tyron; there are the guys that are starters but will never see the real big money; and then there are the guys scratching and clawing to make rosters every year. The NFLPA only really cares about the stars, Tier 1, or the Upper Caste. IF they really cared about the bulk of the players in the NFL, they would have made increasing game day rosters and team rosters their number one priority and they never have.

Back to a much more honest and good person:
Tyron has been a TEAM GUY since day one. The number of players you can say of that anymore is pretty small. HE puts out all he has all the time and never whines or complains.
To me he is up there with the all time great Cowboys like Roger and Lilly.

so lets distinguish between RT and LT. Erik williams was a great, really great RT until he broke both his legs. Tyron probably the best LT we have ever had.

Unreliable? frankly harsh. Middle of the pack? You are blind as a bat.

My thoughts:
Tyron Smith apparently took his salary from $13 mil to $6 mil as a concession due to his injuries the last few seasons. Say what you will, but that man has given everything for the Cowboys. He's been one of the best tackles of all time, and he's done another thing to sacrifice for the team. I truly hope that, when he retires, he not only gets in the HOF as a first ballot but also gets into the ROH. He belongs there.
Love the guy and he has given everything. But relying on him to anchor this line has been the death bell for the Oline for the past 5 years and its going to be no different THIS year. Once he goes down, this line gets closer to average when the musical chairs start. Jerry would have been smart to think of him as the swing tackle this year and gotten a legitimate starter to play guard once he goes down.

Exactly, and a player that wants to keep playing on the same team. Tyron Smith is a player who belongs in the HOF and ROH
as much as the Dallas cowboy fans want to believe that and I think that someday for sure he's going to be in the Ring of Honor and possibly he's going to get into the Hall of Fame but not first ballot because he has no rings.

I mean how is it that Darren woodson's not in the Hall of Fame?? there's a lot of Dallas Cowboys from both Super Bowl errors that are not in the Hall of Fame that everyone knows should be the fact that he hasn't been part of any championship teams could be a reason for the bias that that they can just shake that off on a tie and kick the can down the road he'll probably make it second or third time around but I don't know that he's getting in on the first ballot. You can look at the fact that he's a lineman an offensive lineman he doesn't have stats he just has credibility and his reputation that has been great but offensive lineman are a little harder to get in the Hall of Fame without the rings.

He's probably a good guy who knows he's been getting paid for a whole season/s when he's not been playing the whole seasons.

Players give their health for the love of the game.....at any level, getting paid or not. Many fans don't see or appreciate that
