Tyron Smith Makes Cowboys Sacrifice, Still Called 'Overvalued'?

My thoughts:
Tyron Smith apparently took his salary from $13 mil to $6 mil as a concession due to his injuries the last few seasons. Say what you will, but that man has given everything for the Cowboys. He's been one of the best tackles of all time, and he's done another thing to sacrifice for the team. I truly hope that, when he retires, he not only gets in the HOF as a first ballot but also gets into the ROH. He belongs there.
1000% agreed

He has play time incentives.

Although I do agree that it is nice to see a player "lower" his contract to stay with his team, Smith has a chance to earn back all he conceded as incentives. So it isn't like he said he would take $6 million instead of $13 million. He just said he would take $6 million and earn the other $7 million.
Actually Tyrone can make $15m if he plays 90%. I'm sure he expects to play all season, but did it as a favor in case he doesn't.

It's a smart deal for both sides. Tyron gets guaranteed money and a chance to make what he would have anyway (and even more). Dallas cleared some needed cap space and protects itself against the likelihood that Smith gets injured. Wish more players would take this approach, but most don't want even the perception of them taking a pay cut.

I won't be surprised if he ends up playing 75 percent of the snaps and pockets $12 million total for the season.
