as much as the Dallas cowboy fans want to believe that and I think that someday for sure he's going to be in the Ring of Honor and possibly he's going to get into the Hall of Fame but not first ballot because he has no rings.

I mean how is it that Darren woodson's not in the Hall of Fame?? there's a lot of Dallas Cowboys from both Super Bowl errors that are not in the Hall of Fame that everyone knows should be the fact that he hasn't been part of any championship teams could be a reason for the bias that that they can just shake that off on a tie and kick the can down the road he'll probably make it second or third time around but I don't know that he's getting in on the first ballot. You can look at the fact that he's a lineman an offensive lineman he doesn't have stats he just has credibility and his reputation that has been great but offensive lineman are a little harder to get in the Hall of Fame without the rings.

True, but then again, there are players like Tony Gonzalez who got inducted without that simply because they were in an elite class at their position at the time (and rightfully so). That said, Darren Woodson not being in is also a scandal imo. He was one of the best safeties to play the game.

My thoughts:
Tyron Smith apparently took his salary from $13 mil to $6 mil as a concession due to his injuries the last few seasons. Say what you will, but that man has given everything for the Cowboys. He's been one of the best tackles of all time, and he's done another thing to sacrifice for the team. I truly hope that, when he retires, he not only gets in the HOF as a first ballot but also gets into the ROH. He belongs there.
Didn’t read article for the details, but whether it mentions it or not, willing to bet behind closed doors they were honest about maybe cutting him if he stayed at that higher price tag. Worth the injury risk and constant rotation of offensive line with a low salary because still can do it when healthy. Genetic freak,

I totally agree with all of the positive comments about what Tyron has meant to this team and what a great player he has been. But, i don’t think Tyron taking less was just done just as a favor to the Cowboys. His $13.5M base salary wasn’t guaranteed and he wasn’t likely getting any of it if he refused a pay cut.
He’s been a great player and leader, but he hasn’t finished a season in a nearly a decade. He’s good when he’s healthy, but that’s rare.

Hard to dispute that.

Smith doing the Cowboys a pretty solid! Hard to believe any player in the league would agree to that.
Yep. I’m sure his agent argued hard against it. I’m sure the union was anti as well. The MLB union wouldn’t allow it.

Here's a fun little game to play.
I challenge anyone to total up all the money they have made in their respective careers and then agree they will take less than half of the amount they are owed this year, just because of what they were paid previously.

It's not happening with pretty much anyone else on the planet, except with an athlete of high moral character who just wants to keep playing.
Less than half is still MILLIONS of dollars.

He has play time incentives.

Yes Gonzalez got inducted but you do realize that we're talking about two different types of players and offensive lineman with no stats there's not a lot you can bolster credibility with outside of reputation...

Tony Gonzalez obviously is one of the best tight ends to ever play because you can see his numbers but with an offensive lineman much tougher they almost have not a lot to go on stat wise but you get a reputation that's about it..

I mean sacks/pressures given up and all that kind of stuff might be looked at.

I mean look at lane Johnson stat line like when's the last time he even gave up a sack his reputation says he is the top lineman of his generation because they can't even find games where he gives up a sack or much pressure can neutralize this guys like Micah Parsons and while Tyrone Smith did that at one time he's been playing a long time you added injuries and he doesn't have a lot of stats to hang his head on at this point...

True, though it is interesting that Tyron was originally supposed to be a RT. As I recall, he got moved because Doug Free was a turnstile at LT.

The team drafted him to be the Left Tackle, almost similar to Tyler Smith, where he may play elsewhere to start but the goal was LT.

Doug Free played well at first, but quickly regressed at LT, which sped up when Tyron would take over the LT spot.

Your point? Mine is it's all relative. If you make 100K will you take 50 this year because you made a million over the last 10?
it's not the same , you trying to make a comparison to the regular world and it's not the same , you have to make a decision to take less or end up on the street like dalvin cook, zeke, hopkins, and many more.

He knows he has made a ton of money even when he's been injured and sitting missing games. So it's take a little less keep your job, or be on the street looking for another job most likely for a lot less. So why not take less and stay with the team you started until you're ready to retire. If you fall off in production and miss a lot of time at regular jobs you get fired or demoted. What is a demotion usually come with a pay cut.

That's the logic we're using in here so when a team comes to you asking for you to take a pay cut it's not a slap in the face you have a choice you leave, or take less and possibly get less with another team. In the markets where his case it actually worked out for him he refused to take a pay cut I don't know what he got paid in Denver but he got a Super Bowl ring. But that's not the typical way it works out. Other players have taken less and stayed here recently so it's not a big deal.

Tyron Smith was the Dallas Cowboys First Bank and Trust,, they told him that he can retire as a Cowboy and Jerry gave him his word that he would make him a very wealthy man if he took the Jerry hand shake and Tyron did just that and Jerry is doing just that.

Tyrons contract has been very flexible and very accommodating and he will retire as a Cowboy and go into the Ring of Honor because of the symbiotic relationship.

Does not happen in todays NFL very often, Brady did it for Bill because he had Gisele.

I agree that he's high character, and deserves respect for this and much more, but to be fair, many of us couldn't even survive on half of what we make.

I'm wishing Tyron all the best and hope he does finally play almost the full season. I know that is asking a lot though. But i do agree he has already cemented himself as a first ballot HOF. As for ROH, there are too many other Cowboys still worthy and are waiting....leave it to Jerry to hold things up just because Jimmy is in the conversation right now. Thinks we all will forget about that. If Tyron can be able to get in at least 12-14 games in, that would be a win for the team. But really need him in the playoffs.
Tyron had nothing to do with Jimmy's era, so he'll get in the RoH pretty quickly.

I agree, and this is the color of irony that fills virtually everything: no matter what Lawrence (or ANY Dallas Cowboy) ever accomplishes, says or does, there’ll always be loud and widespread criticism. It SELLS!
