Wasn't he 19 or 20 when he entered the league?

I don't think Father Time catches people when they're 25 years old.

His back problems are unfortunate, but some of his injuries where just plain bad luck, like getting rolled up on.

Either body breaking down or 'luck', he's still not on the field. The harsh reality is are we best paying him $17.6m or is the $9.6m saving better spent filling a number of FA holes, especially as the past 3 years luck is continually against him.

Let's look around the NFL at top tackles, shall we?

-Rashawn Slater was pro-bowler his first season. He will miss 16 games this season
-All world Trent Williams has missed games in each of his past five seasons
-Eric Fisher former NFL No. 1 overall pick, 2021 pro bowler, missed half of 2019. Injuries have sidelined him all of this year
-Pro Bowl Laremy Tunsil missed 12 games last season, two this year already
-Pro Bowl Terron Armstead has missed 36 games to injury since 2014
-Pro Bowl David Bakhtiari has missed 23 games over the past 3 seasons

Need I go on? I've got dozens more. It's football. Tackles get hurt a lot.s They miss games. Is what it is.

Adjust your childish notions, and quite snipping at Syonmith. Call him glass? You don't know what you're talking about.
Im not snipping andI respect Tyron we all do Tony was finished we he was finished if the team wants to start Tyron over our future thats progress stopper

The "bad luck" injuries may have happened to whomever was playing the position at the time, and to base his salary off that would not be fair.

T. Smith missed 1 game out of 80 (1.3%) his first 5 seasons.

T. Smith missed 12 games out of 64 (18.8%) his next 4 seasons.

T. Smith missed 28 games out of 41 (68.3%) his last 2-1/2 seasons.

Spin it however you want to spin it but the fact is T. Smith has become injury prone and with a $9.6M cap savings ($8M in dead money) if traded or released after this season he is DONE.

Yeah his age is deceptive. His football experience is a better barometer for the "father time" his body is up against. Tyron has played a lot of football and his body is dealing with the wear and tear from years of collisions.

Tyron missed one game in his first five seasons. He's missed 39, and counting, the next seven seasons. Father Time is catching up to him, just like everyone else.
If Tyron finishes the final 6 games strong and then leads us in the playoffs. All will be forgiven. I think he will be the more important then OBJ because with a healthy Tyron we might be able to pass block with just our 5 linemen with no chips or running back/tight end help. 5 receivers running routes.:omg:

At least now, if Tyron gets hurt, they have a more than adequate replacement.

I would never consider a guy playing in 11 season in the NFL as made of glass, I will say injury take their toll and have mounted over those years. I like Tyron but I also think sometimes if a player can't decide that sometimes a team has to make the decision to move on from that player. I hated to see Emmitt leave Dallas but I knew he was done, he put in the time and time caught up to him. In this day and age of salary caps I think it does force teams to make hard choices.

The most disappointing thing was that Tyron played at a HOF level when he was in his prime/peak prior to these injuries.
And on a lesser level, even a slightly compromised Tyron who was playing thru minor injuries was extremely effective.
But now as time and snaps have accumulated over the past decade, we see a more compromised version of the original whose unavailability is more common than the stretches of good to HOF level play.

I think though we have to be realistic about the position. If he's going to miss 3 or 4 games a season I can live with that especially now with Tyler Smith.

You can't just assign a number though. He has missed 3-4 in past years but his age & injuries are increasing which leads us to this year where he has missed the season to date. At some maybe it's time to call it a career.

I didn't hunt for a list of frequent players. I just looked at list of recent pro bowl tackles! This is the nature of the business!

I agree people get hurt. But I also understand that he is in a downward trend in his ability to get on the field and level of play when he does. They all want to go out on their terms .... but it's not possible. When muscles just start ripping off the bone in a practice, I consider that a pretty strong indicator that maybe he should listen to his body.

GTFOH!! He is always banged up and missing games at the end or playing injured and getting holding penalties. He came into the league at age 20 and he is worn out. Dallas should of traded him 4 years ago when they could of gotten something for him.

The typical homer excuse. List other guys that get hurt, so that makes it OK that Smith is ALWAYS hurt.

NO, sorry, that doesnt fly. Smith is about as unreliable as it gets. He needs to be replaced. Cant be paying 13 million for a guy that is going to miss half the season every year.

When players reach a level of belovedness letting them go is difficult. I completely understand that.

However, from the standpoint of putting the best product on the field you are absolutely correct that it should have been strongly considered. More times than not, when a player's health or level of play begin to trend downward, it's only going to accelerate.

It would have been difficult to see Tyron elsewhere but the compensation you would have received might be making a big difference on your team today. Tough decisions ... but from a business perspective it should always be on the table.

I'm really confused by this logic. Missing an entire year super early in your career (slater) is alot worst than someone like Smith having six or seven healthy seasons immediately off the bat (100+ games) then having to manage injuries on the backend of the career

So basically almost three full seasons.

Thank you! People wanting him to be gone when he's still playing at a high level with a nice contract are super unrealistic to harp on a few sacks. Yes he gets injured but he's still damn good and is a major asset. His contract was so team friendly it isn't even funny.
Exactly, his contract allowed this team to have cap flexibility, rather than putting a stranglehold and leverage on the FO like other players in key positions have done.
