Bad-mouthing Tyron Smith is foolish. The team really suffered a year ago during the games he didn't play in the middle of the year. The Cowboys were (wise..fortunate (pick one)) that they drafted Tyler Smith, and that he's played so well as a rookie. But there is no way that Tyler Smith is currently playing at the HOF level that Tyron Smith has shown he's capable of playing when he's healthy.
Bottom line: When Tyron Smith is healthy, he gets his job back until he proves he can no longer do the job.
Certainly, we should all be very encouraged that Tyler Smith looks like he'll be a very good replacement for Tyron Smith in the future. But it is premature to assume that is now. Tyler is making up for his mistakes with brute strength, but his technique still needs a lot of improvement. If Tyron comes back and immediately gets reinjured, the Cowboys have lost nothing by putting him back in. Tyler is still available if needed. The question then becomes what to do with Tyler. It is not an automatic assumption that you replace McGovern at Left Guard, who has started playing well in the last few games. But Tyler Smith does have more power than McGovern. So, it makes sense to rotate them in at Left Guard - so that the coaches can get some real-time film on both players and evaluate the best options for the team going into the end of the season and the playoffs. Another option is to rotate Tyler Biadasz and Connor McGovern at Center. McGovern has played center and has practiced as a center for the Cowboys. It is possible that he might be an upgrade at Center.
The Cowboys are getting healthy at the right time. Having seven starting quality offensive linemen (Smith, Smith, Peters, Steele, McGovern, Biadasz and Martin), three of whom (so far) that are likely destined for the Football Hall of Fame, is a luxury for the Cowboys. We should be grateful, and not tear down any of the players.
