Major respect to Cody. He just said he would like to give Dom a rematch because he was such a great champ he deserves it. Very cool. I enjoy when two opponents are respectful of each other instead of the WWE antics.

Holly Holm looked world class after her beat down of Rousey. We saw how that went afterwards.

Ronda isn't popular, I get it. She was the best at her apex, and it isn't close. Gtho if you think there's been a better female fighter (not directed at you, Viman)

Ronda became popular beating up cans in the UFC. She was the big fish in a small pond. She has not dominated since there has been talent in that division.

Ronda has never had good striking, and her coach is terrible. Anyone could see this result.

Welcome to Ronda's retirement party tonight, via vicious TKO from Nunes to a sleeping Rousey.

Let the gifs flood in here in 2 hours, it will be great.

LOL Nunes will lose to the next fighter she faces. Listen to Nunes talk all that crap. She is a puncher, boxer, someone else will connect on her chin and take the title.

Such is woman's UFC. Rousey was the outlier

I don't know she has legit knock out power. You cant really say that about too many woman fighters.

You had to be pretty deluded to think Honda stood a chance. That was a pay day for her, now shes retired and will be fat and popping out a nipper in ten months. I've been trowing this result in every bet Ive made since the odds came out and won a lot of money on the last two Nunes bouts, zero chance you get good odds on her again. Its a disgrace how the UFC has treated her for this fight, nearly left Nunes out of the hype videos and she got a small percentage compared what Rousey earned. I'm glad she's gone now as the only person I'm interested in seeing her fight is Gabi Garcia or maybe CM Punk.

For a seemingly intelligent woman, Rousey is an incredibly stupid fighter. Easy target for Nunez's Tasmanian Devil assault. Dumb.

This article in USA Today Sports by Martin Rogers better explains what I was trying to say:

Women’s MMA is a very different sport to the one Rousey entered in 2011, and far more again from how things were when the UFC admitted female fighters and installed Rousey as its inaugural champion three years ago.
Take Nunes for example. The Brazilian-born, Florida-based power puncher lives and breathes the sport, has made a comfortable enough living from it that she has been able to give it her complete attention, and set her heart on being the best in the octagon, unbothered by distractions such as Hollywood or photo spreads or a rash of commercials.
As the fame of women’s fighting increased, thanks almost solely to Rousey, so too did the standard of combat, and it is the latter part that she could not keep pace with.
It is harsh to say, but she was in some ways a one-trick pony. What a trick it was, the devastating armbar, to which no one had an answer. Until they did.

I completely disagree. Woman's UFC is so new, name me a more dominant fighter?

Cyborg. Women's MMA goes beyond the UFC. Cyborg has been dominant for years, and it should be obvious to anyone now why Rousey worked so hard to duck her (while simultaneously trying to discredit her). Cyborg is everything Rousey isn't - she has a fighter's mentality. She took a muay thai match against one of the top women in the world, who was 36 - 0 - 3 at the time of the match. It didn't help her MMA record, and she lost under muay thai rules, but she took the fight because she wanted to test herself and fight the best. Meanwhile Rousey was fighting soccer moms and chicks who got into MMA to lose weight.

Ronda was a high level judoka fighting against people with limited or no combat sport experience and a couple of years of training. So she was able to use a handful of moves to beat them. But she did it all while ducking Cyborg, and if anyone ever had a doubt how that fight would have gone all they had to do is watch last night. Rousey was never the greatest woman fighter, she was just the one the UFC propped up. The only difference between her and Gina Carano (aside from Gina being hot) was that Carano actually had the guts to face Cyborg. But she was propped up by EliteXC exactly the same way that Rousey was by the UFC. Rousey finished her career 12 - 2, Carano finished 8 - 1, and Carano was 12 - 1 - 1 in kickboxing too. It could be argued that even she was as dominant as Rousey, until she was beaten into retirement by Cyborg.

That's why Miesha was the only girl that could give her a challenge.. Miesha was a legit grappler but she wasn't the physical talent that Ronda was.

You give Ronda girls that are on her level or better than her physically with some skills and she just looks lost.

Thanks for the schooling, JD. Admittedly, I don't follow the sport as much as I do other sports. You damn well cleared that one up. Lol

I've further expressed my feelings on Rousey in the OT Zone that @REDVOLUTION started :)

It's not MMA, but the Cyborg vs Baars fight in muay thai was great. Cyborg will never be the poster girl, she's just not attractive, but she's a warrior. She got flattened multiple times by Baars and still kept coming. It was her third muay thai fight ever and she fought a multiple world title belt holder. Nobody wants to see Cyborg half naked in a magazine, so she'll never get the Rousey or Carano love, but I think she's great. And after getting beat by Baars she didn't go into hiding or run from the press like Rousey, she said it was great and she loved it.

I wish I was half as tough as Cyborg. She's a bad *****.

And an article about the fight afterwards, with a lot of quotes from both women.

Don't forget that Cyborg has taken so many roids she's a guy.

Don't care. Steroids don't make you tough, they don't give you heart, they only allow you to recover more quickly and work harder than you normally would without over training.

Cut me a break she has more testosterone in her than most men at any given time.
To quote Austin Powers she's a man baby!!
But really in aggression and strength it means a lot.

  1. Cyborg is a man and known PED abuser and out of Rousey's weight class as a featherweight (145 lbs).
  2. Name one champion in any fighting sport that hasn't fought tin cans early in their careers? You don't start your career fighting title holders. Rousey has beaten Tate (twice) who is a very experienced and well-rounded as is Cat Zigano and Beth Correia. Rousey only has 14 professional fights under her belt. If you wanna criticize her for the quality of opponent she was fighting early in her career than you need to criticize Cyborg too, unless you're impressed with her victories over Elaine Santiago de Lima and her 0-4 career record, Marise Vitoria (0-1), Leslie Smith (9-7) or Yoko Takahashi (15-12), et cetera.
